Man, that is a great way to lose reelection lol. Good luck getting delusional Michigan fans who thought that this would be their year to vote for you again after robbing them of that 'opportunity'

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is reporting that the Big Ten’s Council of Presidents and Chancellors is expected to vote to start the season, with the target date Oct. 17.

Nine votes are needed to pass.

This has been hilarious to watch play out, what's sad is that they're going to get to play an 8 game season and somehow get the same playoff consideration as teams that played 30% more games.

What drove this decision more than anything was 1) donors withholding donations 2) the fact that they couldn't claim their insurance because everyone else is playing.

What'll be more interesting to follow -- allegedly, this isn't a done deal, with 5 schools firmly against + 7 firmly in favor + 2 waffling.

Prior to the canceling the season, Rutgers limited attendance to 500 people. They are expected to vote no. Would they opt out if B10 votes to play the season?

Then there's Nebraska suing the B10
Nebraska attorney general notifies Big Ten that it appears to be out of compliance with state nonprofit act

(AG Doug) Peterson's letter to (B10 Commissioner Kevin) Warren states, in part: "It has come to my attention that your corporation is operating and conducting business within the State of Nebraska without being registered and/or failing to maintain registration to conduct business within the State of Nebraska."

The B10 is a non-profit?

Nebraska should just go back to the 12 where they belong

Welp, guess pundits won't be able to use ND's lack of a 13th data point against us anymore if that's the case.

So some of the B10 teams have been practicing still correct? Then they are going to get a month to hold normal practices?

Supposedly Michigan and MSU are 2 of the schools rumoured to not be playing. Along with NorthWestern and Maryland.

I'm surprised they got the 9 votes if that's the case. Maryland, Rutgers, and Northwestern seemed like locks to not want to play. Add Michigan and Michigan State... that means everyone else voted to play? Including Illinois?

EDIT: This says Michigan and MSU voting to play -- https://www.si.com/college/michigan...arren-mark-schlissel-jim-harbaugh-2020-season -- and also says that 100% of schools will participate.

If so, it's hilarious that they're pretending this has anything to do with science, testing, or public health.

Potential 1st round picks Wyatt Davis and Shaun Wade of Ohio State have opted out over the last few days. You'd think these kids would want to win a national championship but I guess it's their decision even though it hurts the team substantially. Don't love this trend.

The B1G ain't gonna get anyone in the playoff anyway so its probably moot

Honestly, I kind of love it. Kids who are playing college football for the sole purpose of reaching the NFL need to go ahead and do whats best for them and stop being forced to play for free. College football badly needs a return to amateurism IMO. Yes, the top talent leaving would hurt the "product" on the field, but at the end of the day we're cheering for institution and the helmet. If you want to see football played at its highest form, the NFL exists.

Wasn't it Wade's dad who was one of the parents leading the charge to play?

You know they’ll try to sneak into the playoff. The only one you have to worry about winning a Natty IMO is OSU. The rest will be also-rans.

I'm fine with this, however, I don't think the CFP should alter their early January schedule to accommodate the Big10 (and Pac 12 if they join in).

Press conference at 10:15 on BTN

"Those who stay [with the B1G because we claim to be about player safety first] will [possibly have the opportunity] to be champions [after we determined that playing football was the most profitable course of action and because Ryan Day threw a fit].

They absolutely should not alter their schedule. But they will find some way to accommodate the B1G because they want OSU to have a chance and to cover more geographic markets.

I think if the Big 10 can get their schedule in between October 23/24 and Christmas, it should be okay. The bigger issue is the teams waiting for them to finish up to see if they are in the CFP or not.

I could be wrong but I thought the NCAA requires all regular season games to be completed by the end of the academic semester for fall sports. That means the Big Ten would have to be done by Dec 12 with the conference championship Dec 19. Even if they play every weekend from Oct 24-Dec 12, that will only be 8 games. Add in the conference championship and they will play a maximum of 9 games. Not sure that will get them into the CFP with teams playing 12 games.

From ESPN:

The Big Ten and Pac-12 start in October and play a shorter schedule: If they can start as early as Oct. 24, that would give them eight weeks to play eight games, plus the conference championship games on Dec. 19 -- just in time for CFP Selection Day on Dec. 20. There's no wiggle room in this model, though, for COVID-19 disruptions, and no bye weeks -- but it's an eight-game, conference-only schedule that ends with a winner.

yeah they left themselves no wiggle room for covid implications

and this is all fluff in regards to the medical information changed. nothing has changed in the last month from a medical standpoint that makes something any more or less safe to place sports.
