I think there are quite a few in-game coaching things to criticize Freeman for…….
Double-checking with his guys on his FG kicker’s distance right before making the final call on FG vs Punt isn’t one of them, imo.
Yeah, maybe Freeman should know the “FG Range” tv line in his head from pregame prep. But it’s wild to die on that hill when there are guys who’s literal job is to continuously confirm that shit with their coaches in-game.
You might call it over-communication, which maybe they learned a bit about after OSU last year.
not to keep beating it but he wasn't checking the range, he didn't know at the time if they were kicking or going for it. It was clear we were in range.
What i'm talking about is he didn't have a clear strategy even with all the timeouts to handle the last 90 seconds once we got the ball back (other than run it). The game wasn't over. If love didn't fight for extra yards both runs after the price loss, we probably punt and A&M gets the ball back with however many seconds (35ish). What if we didn't have a timeout and give him more time to make a decision? The announcers were acting like the game was over, but we all know it wasn't. Everything worked out as it should have. I just think he's still struggling with in game decisions. He went for it on fourth down both times first drive of second half because analytics said to. Analytics is great, but it's not an end all because it's not taking into account everything happening in the game.
Freemans passion before the game I think was huge, we've come out flat so much on the road. He clearly had the team locked in to the game plan, just need to really clean up all the sloppy penalties.
