So apparently my dad and I have tickets in the gold seats for this game. Don't know whether I am glad or mad about that.

It wasn't good enough last year either... but we went 12-0.

Am I the only one that thinks that we could have a better offense this year than last? I think our Oline will be better, I think we have faster/better RB corps, better/more experienced WR corp and I even think that a 2013 Rees might end up being better (statistically) than a 2012 Golson. I'm cautiously optimistic.

I think the talent level on offense is better this year, but I'm nervous about the number of unproven players that will have to play. Hopefully we don't keep shooting ourselves in the foot like 2011.

I think we'll put up more yards. But will we be able to limit turnovers? Will we be able to convert the big third down plays? Those will make all the difference.

I'll be there too. You on the home side or away side? I'll be away side, Section 10 (Roughly 40 yard line), 5 rows up from the field.

It's an up and down section. Sometimes there will be a lot of good fans cheering there (Older alumni give tickets to their progeny). Sometimes you'll have a lot of blue hairs sitting down and clapping when we're in a tight game. The blue hairs tend to stay till late October, then fly down to Florida for the rest of the season.

Alternatively, game plan to run at #99 all day.

I like the move, other than the fact linemen would be miffed. He's trying to instill a certain amount of pride in those players, and something to shoot for. Good coaching move imo.

[EDIT] Then again, are there any rules these days about linemen wearing single digits? I'm guessing DL is excluded of course

Yup, so the refs can tell if there's an ineligible man downfield a bit easier. It's also why TEs are in higher numbers. I'm not aware of any recent rule changes.

Can't you do an unbalanced line though with two tackles next to each other and the outside one is eligible, or is that one of those circumstances where he has to change his number first?

He doesn't have to change his number, but he has to declare his eligibility with the ref before the play. (I'm assuming the NCAA and NFL rules are the same here).

Posted this over on the Temple board on Scout, will let you know what I find out. I was looking for a Temple primer since I personally know nothing about their team:

Re: Temple v Notre Dame Prediction thread

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello Owls from a visiting ND fan! I first off would like to commend you as I have been lurking around this board for a couple of months, and for the most part the commentary on here relating to ND has been pretty civil. I encourage any of you to come over to the Irish Envy message board (irishenvy.com) and join our fans for some friendly banter as well (my username is the same over there too).

In regards to this game, ND's biggest weakness will be if you can get quick pressure on Rees when passing, as everyone knows he is not mobile, and has been known to force some bad throws in the face of pressure. The rumor in fall camp has been that the passing game will be a quick tempo to try and negate Rees having to stand in the pocket for long. In fact, Brian Kelly has spent considerable time at the end of the summer visiting with Bill Belichick and the Patriots, presumably to glean some of the finer points of a quick strike offense. Some say that the youth at running back may be a liability as well, and it may be at times, but there is so much talent and speed there, it would be hard to shut them down consistently. The WR/TE corp has good experience overall and is deep.

On the defensive side of the ball, this will be the best d-line (and probably overall defense) Temple will see all year, as many have picked them as the best d-line in the country. NT Louis Nix III (jersey #1, which looks funny on a 357 lb guy) and DE Stephon Tuitt (#7) are preseason AA's and projected Top 15 picks in nearly every preaseason publication. Nix constantly drives the opposing lineman into the backfield. In fact, he was the one in the NCG last year who actually had a really good game, consistently outplaying Chance Warmack. The other DE is a sophmore named Sheldon Day (#91) who was the first DE off the bench last year and is expected to have a huge year, similar to Tuitt's sophomore year last year (12 sacks). The LBs and secondary are both expereienced as well. There's no huge names at this point, but again they are deep too. Keep an eye out for LB Jaylon Smith (#9), the #4 overall 2013 freshman per Rivals who will see significant playing time due to an upperclassman's recent season ending injury.

Now I know pretty much nothing on Temple's team outside of these threads that I have perused on here. Based on what I have told you about ND, which I am sure the Owl staff knows as well, what should I expect as the gameplan from the Owls? I am excited for the game, but as always the first game of the year can be a little shaky sometimes. I am thinking something along the lines of a 37-10 final score in favor of ND

In reference to Connor Reilly, who was recently named their starting QB:

We are all wondering the same thing. My guess is a lot of short passing dink and dunks, to give the QB confidence against what might be a big rush. Mix in some rushes to keep the defense off balance, and a couple of long throws to keep them honest. I expect mistakes and INT's.

Police offer advice to football game-day motorists // News // Notre Dame News // University of Notre Dame

Police offer advice to football game-day motorists
Dennis Brown August 22, 2013

The realignment of Douglas Road to the north of the University of Notre Dame campus and ongoing road construction in other areas could cause confusion and possible delays while traveling to and from the University on home football game days this season.

Local law enforcement agencies are working collaboratively with the Notre Dame Security Police department to minimize delays, and they encourage motorists to keep the following in mind:

The west end of Douglas Road now connects directly to the exit from the Indiana Toll Road, and to the east Douglas is accessible through two new roundabouts.

Because Douglas is new, GPS systems will not account for the realignment. Motorists should ignore navigation systems and follow police officer directions and signs.

The old Douglas Road has been renamed Moreau Drive from Juniper Road west to the Sacred Heart Parish Center, beyond which the road has been permanently closed.
Douglas Road will be two-way before, during and after games, though there may be temporary closure of east- or westbound flow on Douglas Road during post-game patterns to accommodate traffic safety.
Parking in White Field South will be from Douglas and in White Field North from Juniper.
A shuttle from White Field will begin at 6 a.m. on game days and run continuously until pick-up stops are clear.
ADA-accessible parking for those with state-issued placards is in the D2 North Lot. A shuttle to Gate 4 of the Joyce Center will operate continuously from 6 a.m. until the pick-up area is clear.
South of campus, there is a great deal of construction, with several roads closed, including Twyckenham Drive at South Bend Avenue. Many familiar routes will be closed, and police advise motorists to ignore their navigation systems and follow officer instructions rather than rely on past practices.
Up-to-date traffic information is available before games on Twitter from the Indiana State Police at @ndtraffic. Police advise motorists to, as always, arrive early and be patient during the post-game exodus.

No Backpacks, Duffles, or Totes Allowed In Stadium

No Backpacks, Duffles, or Totes Allowed In Stadium

Notre Dame to enhance stadium safety with new bag policy
Dennis Brown July 29, 2013

As part of an ongoing commitment to safety and security, the University of Notre Dame has adopted a new policy on bags and other items fans can bring into its football stadium on game days.

Beginning with the 2013 season-opening game Aug. 31 (Saturday), fans will be prohibited from bringing large bags such as backpacks, duffel bags and totes into the stadium (see photo for examples). Smaller bags, such as purses, will be allowed but will be inspected by trained security personnel, as will blankets, coats, ponchos and other similar items.

“Our top priority is safety, and we believe that in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombing and other incidents through the years, this new policy is the prudent course of action,” said Michael Seamon, associate vice president for campus safety and director of game day operations. “We know our fans will adapt quickly to the policy, and we appreciate their cooperation in helping to make Notre Dame Stadium as safe as possible.”

Seamon said his hope is that fans would not bring bags of any kind into the stadium, and he added that the addition of specially trained inspectors will ensure that any delays at the gates will be kept to a minimum.

University officials benchmarked the bag policies of the National Football League and others in collegiate athletics before amending Notre Dame’s policy.

The thing is theres really no place for a backpack in the stadium. If you're sitting in the gold seats you have room to put things at your feet, but you have less room if you're in the bleachers. What do you need to bring to a football game anyway? In the hot games some people may bring some water and a fan, but you can carry that in. Cold months you can bring a blanket. I can't think of much else one would need. Reducing the bags that come in just makes sense. They all have to be searched by staff before you go in anyway

FYI - A friend of mine told me there are plenty of tickets left for this game. He was told by some people in the ND Development Office.
