Football Outsiders' Bill Connelly just posted his "10 Things to Know" about the 2013 Owls:

Long-term, I like the Rhule hire. Again, he's recruiting very well, and he knows the personnel and landscape at hand. But it might be a bit much to ask for significant improvement in 2013. The passing game is still beyond suspect, and even if the pass rush comes back around, there are still enormous question marks on this defense. If Temple can get to five wins while still playing a ton of underclassmen, I'll consider that progress. So let's set the bar there.

This is just like the Lazard thread on that ISU board we wasted time discussing a few months ago. "Fan" is short for fanatic. Of course they're unreasonably optimistic about the Owls' chances against us.

On a related note, is it always a terrible idea to taunt a weaker opponent. Nothing good can come of it.

Taunting in itself is a terrible idea. All it does is feed motivation to the opposition.

Appalachian State is an automatic win! No way ND loses to Syracuse..at home..on senior day.

Just best to mind your team and mind yourself.

does anyone know where $80 face value tickets are usually at? I already have 2 tickets for the game but someone just offered me 4 more at $80 a piece but I would like to know where the seats are if possible.

Could be anywhere, but most likely you'll be in the upper deck in a corner

That is the price for nearly every ticket in the stadium.

Temple in for a rude awakening, just sayin. This isn't a Charlie Weis coached team that lacks passion and enthusiasm to get after it. It's about to be broughten, lol.

That's the one thing I'm confident about.
If given the chance, Kelly won't take the foot off the gas.

He has done it before. This score should be like 42-3. Temples only points come on a FG from their own 45yard line.

We have things to work on, 56-3.

Its the first game of the year. Game day rust and all. I stand by 42-3, but I feel you on the 56. I see a lot of run and more run. The CannonArmed Rees will be shackled until the UM game where he will drop 400 yards and 5 TDs in Hokes buffet.

remember manti's first game versus Nevada? This is how I feel the Temple game will go with a bunch of eye catching Freshman plays.
TJ Jones, DD a TD a piece.
GA3 2 rushing TD's and then a defensive score also.

Hammond may be gone, but its gonna take more than a just a few years for his makeup to be cleaned up off the press box floor.

I hope this season is reminiscent of last year and not 2011.

It probably won't be reminiscent of either. Somewhere in the middle. The offense isn't good enough to have us go 12-0 but the defense is good enough to keep us from losing like we did to USC and Stanford.

It wasn't good enough last year either... but we went 12-0.

Am I the only one that thinks that we could have a better offense this year than last? I think our Oline will be better, I think we have faster/better RB corps, better/more experienced WR corp and I even think that a 2013 Rees might end up being better (statistically) than a 2012 Golson. I'm cautiously optimistic.

The offense wasn't very good last year either. I think they made improvements at wide receiver and I-line. The rest of the offense is about the same on offense besides tight end IMO.

The defense will be better than just "good enough". It should be better than last years

Thats generally how I feel. OL will be better. RB may take some game time to shake out everyone's role, but they're too talented not to do good things behind this line. WR will end up being the Davaris show this year I think along with TJ and Brown, just hope he stays healthy. TE may not have the same production, but we haven't struck out with our TE since before Fasano, we be fine. As far as QB....I believe in Reesus. This is all on paper of course, but I see no reason why this offense shouldn't move forward this year.
