Another thing that has been in the back of my mind, nothing to really consider too much since we're so far out from the game, is that hurricane season is starting to ramp up and the Atlantic has been busier by the day. ND's excellent run game would be mighty handy in severe weather in Miami at the beginning of September...

...barring having a stubborn coach who insists on passing during a tropical storm, that is.
Only an idiot would throw the ball 26 times in a hurricane... Oh, wait

I was at that miserable game and stayed for the lighting delay - and again the last time around but the Estime hot dog run made it worthwhile.

Brian Kelly should been fired on the spot for that fiasco and the game really should have been played on Sunday.

Yeah, but the game is in August, so…

Their suggested reasons for Angeli transferring are absurd. The rest isn't that far off. Their isn't an informed ND fan on the planet right now that feels better about the QB position today than they did a month ago .
Fair. I'm certainly who you describe. I'm cautiously optimistic that all QBs would be hating life against this defense but.... it does give me pause that neither QB has stepped up and taken the job.

Having said that, Miami fans seem perfectly content with believing their defense will be elite immediately. That they'll shut down the run, harass the QB and make the receivers miserable.

I'd take our first unit defense against theirs without thinking. I'd take our 2nd unit against theirs without thinking. I don't know if I'd take our 2nd unit over their 1st unit as they do have a couple dudes.

So much is riding on the idea that their new DC will instantly fix all of their issues because Minnesota was VERY good with mediocre talent. And by the transitive property: since this defense has more talent than Minnesota they will be Top 10.

This is all possible, as we've seen firsthand with Elko replacing BVG, but I'm just not sure they really have the dudes up front to stop the run. They have one guy in the front seven (Bain) who is elite and then everyone else is some sort of JAG. Maybe it works if they just totally load the box and dare you to throw but we'll see.

Their DL will be really good, that's my #1 concern. They have a stud from Kentucky who'd probably be our best interior DL, and let's be honest, if we had year 2 5-start Justin Scott, we'd all be amped about him being part of the rotation if not starting out right.

Our OL will be tested to the max given how banged up they are (Jagusah out, Craig back from serious injury, Absher apparently missing some practice, Lambert back from serious injury). Add in road game and brand new QB, you have serious concern about this matchup IMO.

Even though they have a likely NFL QB and stud OL, I'm not too worried about our defense.

Which transfer? Keyshawn Silver? He's at SC, not Miami

Idk. I feel good about it. I think it is somewhat subterfuge, somewhat Kenny being very capable, as well.
Isn’t it possible that both are struggling enough w/ consistency that neither has stepped up to take the role? Or…have both looked good but Minchey has surprised the staff by looking better than expected and made it a race?

My perspective is that Kenny has been more consistent in fall camp, while Carr has flashed but not as much as the spring.

I think with it being a 2 player race now, rather than 3, that clears the path a bit and gives both of them more real estate to work with. Kenny is showing the consistency that he probably couldn't with Angeli eating up reps, whereas the increased exposure may be giving Carr more opportunity to make mistakes.

No offense, we just have zero to go on in making these assumptions. They may be right, who knows? But I still will go with what Mercke says. He has been the one with the most accurate info thus far.

This is my take. I will obviously root for whoever is behind the center in Miami. I also wonder if the 50/50 battle has been purposefully implemented by MF to see how Carr responds. He’s been essentially fighting for the starting spot since camp begun. This battle could pay dividends by the time the scrimmage goes live on Sunday. I’m sure MF expects to see the Carr we’ve all hoped for then. Against this is pure speculation on my end.

I could see this. MF had mentioned that they have to find a way to simulate pressure for CJ.

Does anyone know If we have dealt with the noise Issue we're going into? I have a lot of Miami friends that are going to this game. They are pumped, and It's not going to be a 50/50 Irish/miami fans from what I've heard.
Just curious If anyone has heard any noise In fall camp to prepare.

Miami fans are the most fair weather fans as you’ll find. They’ll have 1/4 capacity for a home game in October. With that said, they have high expectations so the place will be a zoo for Week 1. Not as loud as Kyle Field which MF and ND handled very well. Their style of play helps with that too.

Fair weather Is over rating that fan base, but they are pumped. I just worry about our guys hearing the calls and Kyle Field was loud, until we took the lead. We need to curb stomp Miami as a start to the game and I agree.

I will be at Miami, and I was at Texas A&M last year, should be able to compare. I can't imagine with 60% of the capacity and likely a higher percentage of Irish fans in attendance that it will be more daunting than Kyle Field

I was at A&M last year and thought Kyle Field was pretty tame until the 4th quarter, then it turned into the loudest stadium atmosphere I ever experienced before we silenced them.

Even if we are 20%-30% of the stadium, it’s gonna be loud at Miami just because of the roof.

Yessir. Running game and defene always travel well compared to a passing attack. RTDB, we have the best RB room and a lot of experience on the OL

I'd love to see a hard play action on the first snap of the game. You know Miami will be crashing the box to stuff Love. After that, spread to 3-4 wide. Love will feast in a light box as Miami is forced to defend outside the hash or if they stay outside, you have an easy pitch and catch to the slot.

Given it's week 1 and UM is rated, I expect it to be a sell out or near capacity.

Just hope we complete it if they did; I still have flashbacks to Wimbush overthrowing a wide open EQ St. Brown in 2017 to open the game. They just couldn't recover after that missed opportunity.
