Sort of off topic but man I was at the NCG and let me tell you that first drive was easily the loudest ND crowd I've ever been a part of. People were losing their minds.
We will always have that opening drive. No one can take that from us. Every first down as the drive went on was eruption from the ND fans.

Maybe the greatest 20 minutes of my football watching life was that drive and thinking we could actually win the thing
I consider myself a very realist fan. I thought we’d need to be like +2 in the turnover margin with some luck and big plays. After that first drive all my rationale went out the window and I was running around my living room screaming big boy football, fully expecting a three and out on OSU’s next possession. Fun times while it lasted

Definitely got my spirits up and I thought we were going to bully ball them to a championship. The next hour and half, in turn, was one of the worst football watching experiences of my life.

They got them to third down right out of the gate too, it was the dream start right up until it wasn't

Went from "Holy crap, we may actually win this." to "Oh my god, we're gonna get blown out again, aren't we" to "Oh shit, are we making a comeback?" to "Welp...I don't really know what I expected."

What even is that coverage? Literally 4 guys, 3 of them on defense and the only one in remotely decent position to make a play on the ball is the receiver. Moore would look at this picture and slap his forehead in embarrassment.

100%. When we were about halfway through the third quarter, I remember thinking "we need literally every moment to break our way from now until 0:00." And it really was until that catch by Jeremiah Smith. Absolute roller coaster ride.

Hope that lingering sting propels the boys to great heights this fall.

Well, that catch and the missed chip shot field goal.

Miami fans are the most fair weather fans as you’ll find. They’ll have 1/4 capacity for a home game in October. With that said, they have high expectations so the place will be a zoo for Week 1. Not as loud as Kyle Field which MF and ND handled very well. Their style of play helps with that too.
I was at Kyle Field last year, and also was at Miami in 2017. Miami was much louder and much more intimidating, and I mean much. It was unlike any other game Ive been to and i’ve been to my share of big ones.

Whoever starts week 1 at Miami is going to have to stay composed and perform in an absolute hornet’s neat. If they do, we could be in for a huge season.

I wasn’t at either but it’s hard to believe that a stadium fitting approximately 40K less people was louder, but then again ND did not help themselves that game giving the crowd any reason to shut up. They were starting one of the worst QBs in my lifetime and their defense was no one near what it is now. Defense travels and so will this running game.

Isn’t it on record that Miami pumped in noise for that game?

I heard there was also the intimidation factor of when the busses pulled up, a group surrounded them and started shaking the bus and there were no security measures taken to ensure safety/etc. That is not how you want to arrive at a stadium. Hope they have 30-40+ riot police to secure the area to allow the players off the bus this time.

I'm not making that up right? I could've sworn I remember seeing the buses swaying back and forth by an angry mob with no law enforcement/help in sight.

I agree. That Miami game was an absolute hornets nest. That was as loud and hostile as I have seen. Agree that it would be beneficial to jump out early and take the crowd out of it.

I’m done worrying about this game, Miami lost 3 out of their last 4 games last year, were bailed out by the refs vs Va Tech and rebuilt the team around transfers. Paper tiger. ND is going to kick their ass!!! Just my opinion.
Hoping you are right, of course. Their biggest addition was at DC, though. Think like BVG to Elko. They are very talented. So are we.

I know, extremely confident take on my part, however for the first time since the Lou Holtz era, I truly believe in this team. The staff, the players, whoever wins the starting QB spot. And after watching the heart and fight this team has in the playoffs last year, I’m just ready to the boys get it on.

I hadn’t heard that

Bush league if true

We will roll up with 50 cops in riot gear in a show of force this year

That's pretty difficult to determine at this point. Guys been a DC at a legitimate program for what,1 year?

They put up some great numbers, but Minnesota played some of the worst offenses in football last year. Not saying he's a bad coach but he's a long way from proving he's a top level DC in big time college football.

Not too mention they had a Cam Newton level QB and still couldn’t make it to the ACC Title game. Cristobal is a wet blanket and is the type to bring a veggie platter to a party.

Could be like last year’s aTm game but I think ND would be aTm w/ 1st time starting QB & UM would be ND starting transfer QB coming off surgery. I’m speaking at least offensively. It’ll be up to ND’s D to win the game.

I think boredom had me scared for this game. This DC for Miami is getting way overhyped but fans without knowledge. Will he have better talent yes. Did his defense get smoked but Iowa and Maryland at home, also yes. It’s a group of transfers mainly that they are expecting to have chemistry in Week 1 against a stout offensive line and one of the best running games in the country. Give me the Irish by 2 scores at minimum!

Miami is partially enclosed and the coverings funnel crowd noise back down to the field.

I've been to a LOT of NFL/college stadiums, to include playoff games, and Hard Rock in 2017 was probably one of the Top 3 loudest games I've ever attended. And not only was it loud, but it was vitriolic; that crowd wanted blood, and the Canes fed off that energy.

Definitely agree with this, but with a competent defense, Miami probably goes 11-1/12-0 and makes the playoffs last year. Hetherman certainly brings competence, but there was a ton of turnover on the defensive side of the ball so I don't think he'll be installing the '85 Bears defense or anything like that.

I saw the ND busses pull in to the stadium. A couple eggs were thrown, but nothing approaching any "shaking of the bus" or anything of that nature took place.

The crowd was loud and abusive as the busses pulled up but no one gets within 20 feet of the teams unless they want to (which, ND obviously didn't that night).
