They had Georgia vs Bama on ESPN earlier this week... they were counting down the top 25 games of last year. Wild game, and with regard to Beck it's crazy because:
1. Beck clearly has elite arm talent... the kind of arm that should make you a top pick
2. He absolutely throws some of the dumbest/worst interceptions known to mankind. It's Rex Grossman-esque. He just stares one way and heaves the ball into traffic. His second and third interceptions in that game are comical.

His pass EPA... which adjusts for all of the drops... was #11 in the country last year. Ward, for reference, was #3 in pass EPA and in total EPA was #1 in the country by a LARGE margin. So this is a major downgrade for Miami no matter what way you slice it, because Ward was really that good. Ward or Jeanty probably deserved the Heisman.

Now, looking at 2023, Beck was top 5 in EPA and threw far fewer picks. So he definitely has the potential to revert to his more "conservative" form and be a top 5 QB. When he played against good defenses in 2024 (Texas 2x, Ole Miss, Bama) his performances were varying levels of disaster... QBR in the 50s or 60s each of those games. Have to ask yourself why he regressed so much.
Explanations are never one thing but we can look for the most likely predictors:

2024 Georgia - 58th in sacks given up/game ~ 1.79/game
2023 Georgia - 7th in sacks give up/game ~ .93/game (+ Brock Bowers)

Interestingly enough if we want to compare Miami last year....

2024 Miami - T-56th in sacks given up/game ~ 1.77/game

Miami and Georgia were very similar for this metric. Each year is different/unique and Miami could improve or regress just like Notre Dame.

The Canes 247 guy just did part one of the insider's preview with O'Malley. Did you guys know Michael Irvin, Sean Taylor, Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Willis McGahee, Devin Hester, and Vince Wilfork wouldn't even start on this team? Truly amazing squad.
Did they really say that?????????

the same shit used to happen with Sampson would interview other team's beat writers during game weeks. These clowns would try and tell us Virginia had a bunch of Ronnie Lotts patrolling the back end and such.

What do you all want our first play on offense to be?

Given that everyone expects us to play it safe and hand the ball off to Love, I want a play-action pass with a safe option available in the flat and Greathouse running a deep post route behind the safety. Even if we don't connect, it sets the tone.

When I was watching the IU game I turned to my friend just after X picked off the ball and said "We should run the play where Jeremiyah Love runs a 98 yard touchdown"

So we should run the play where Jeremiyah Love runs an X yard touchdown

Tunnel Screen, take advantage of defense loading up expecting a Jeremiah Love run

Nothing will ever top the Temple guy in 2013 insisting they were gonna give ND a game.

Playaction bomb to Fields for 75 yard TD. Or overthrow it and second down.

The census among most of my friends is Beck just doesn't have the "IT" factor and all were glad to see him go. They watched him for years and claim he folds against good defenses, and was the least clutch player on the team. Having him come down the pipe after Stetson Bennett (completely opposite in terms of clutch and Moxie) was a hard pill to swallow. Nobody I talk to would trade Gunner Stockton for him...and my one die hard UGA buddy said ND defense and the hype of the game is a prime place for 55% passing and 2/3 INTs ND by 10+ easy money.

I’ve been dreading the first two games since the end of last season lol,… I’ve been a die hard since 89 and haven’t seen ND put together top five caliber season in back to back years since 93,… im so trained to expect a downturn after a year like last year. I’m so ready to finally have a new vibe but yeah. I really wish this was against Miami of Ohio for the first game,… and north Texas for the second. Lol, yall know me.

I have felt really good for a while and I think Miami is overrated. As long as they prepare properly, ND wins comfortably by 14+. I think a lot of people are sleeping on how loaded this ND team is.

Running play that gashes for about 12-15 yards so the D says oh shit.

Beck lost both tackles, their starting center, McConkey, and Bowers, among others. Definitely led to his struggles in 2024 - Bowers especially.

The book on Beck is he can hurt you if he has time, but if he doesn't...he's not great. The key will be getting pressure. Against Miami's OL, that's no easy task, but we have talent in our front 7 too.

I’m in the “you trust your 5 DBs so let your front 7 cook” camp.

We should be able to create plenty of pressure. Maybe even with just 4.
