Are you just super gullible? There's zero chance she's no one. Kylo was clearly lying, and even if that is the real direction Rian wanted to take it to frustrate the audience because that's apparently his fetish JJ is 100% retconning that decision.

I like the theory that Rey is a clone. Palpatine got his hands on either Lukes chopped off digits, or more likely a sample from when Anakin got all toasted up and used either to try and make himself a perfect sith apprentice. Then the idea of her parents being "no one" takes on a whole different meaning.

Unlikely, but I think it would be pretty awesome.

Yes. This is where I’m at

Okay? I heard it was horrible. I still gave several canon examples of untrained people using the Force.
Accidentally using the force in an instinctual way in the heat of battle or a pod race is not the same thing as closing your eyes and DELIBERATELY using the force.

Who cares if it's accidental or deliberate? Why does that matter? Force users, trained or untrained, have used the Force in various ways whether they knew it was the Force or not.

Bro she didn't just "use the Force." She 1v1ed Ben Solo.

Ben Solo was also a relatively new force user, severely wounded, and not trying to kill her.
Sorry, I wasn't talking about the fight on Starkiller Base. I'm talking about her resisting him in the interrogation room.

I'll also add that from a writing perspective, it's quite a bit more preposterous to have a character strapped in a chair in a military facility, have her need to 1v1 a trained Sith, and then jedi mind trick an individual flawlessly on her first attempt, than it is to hand wave away a mild film contrivance like Anakin winning a pod race because he has some natural "luck" that comes with being a force user.

We don't know how strong Rey's connection to the Force is. She could have Yoda level Force powers that are still developing. Not every Force user has the same connection to the Force, some are stronger than others. I agree that it's a bit far fetched that she was able to resist Kylo's mind probe, but she may have far stronger a connection to the Force than Kylo. We don't know her backstory, and it's possible she had prior Jedi training that we don't know about. She could have been mind wiped like Revan in the Old Republic (Although unlikely since she was on Jakku from a young age).

From Wookieepedia:
A mind probe was a Force power which allowed the user to search the thoughts of others.[5][6] It was possible to resist this ability using the Force, and if the one resisting was powerful enough, one could turn the effects of the probe around and manage a look into the mind of the user.

That could be the first force sensitive person Kylo ever tried that one. There aren't many left. Maybe it's much tougher than doing it to a regular joe, or to stormtroopers who are basically high functioning mentally challenged people.

One of the theories going around that I kind of like is that Luke really was The Last Jedi, and now Rey will *become* a 'skywalker,' aka someone who travels across the galaxy (walks the skies) to use/teach the Force in a balanced manner, rather than in the white-and-black of Jedi-vs-Sith.

I like it because:

1. This is still the Skywalker saga, and Luke has a part to finish playing

2. Rey is a 'skywalker' in the proper sense, answering the shortcomings of the true Skywalkers

3. It backs up the idea that in the entire universe, the battle for balancing the Force shouldn't keep coming back to the same elite but flawed bloodline... a relative nobody can rise and generate balance in ways that the old masters/apprentices could not

Thanks, I hate it. This is the flipside of the "Everyone important is a secret Targ" fan theory from ASoS.

You hate the theory, or the idea that the Force and the fate of the galaxy should keep coming back to a single, flawed family?

Star Wars is thematically much more fantasy than science fiction, so genealogy has to matter. It can definitely be overemphasized (which the series may be guilty of); but the opposite extreme--no one is special, there's no Providence (f*cking midichorians), etc.--is a much quicker way to send your fantasy series directly into the dumpster.

I don't think the theory is totally erasing the importance of genealogy, but it IS saying that you don't have to be a Skywalker to make a difference.

I think Luke's role as 'The One' could still be served by being the master that finally recognizes the flaw in the hard-line Jedi teachings... trying to ignore the dark side, and pushing fear/anger/hate deep down inside is flawed and dangerous in its own way.

I think he knows that, and TLJ was kind of hinting at that. He wasn't just a hermit running from his mistakes... he was running from the revelation that the Jedi order just doesn't work anymore.

I think he will teach Rey, probably with guidance/blessing from Yoda, that both sides of the Force, and all ranges of emotion, are necessary in achieving true balance (duh).

It maintains the importance of Luke and Vader, and maintains the idea that they had helped bring balance to the Force in a roundabout way.

If Rey ends up being a hidden member of the bloodline, I'll be kind of bummed just because it means there was some sort of mind-wipe or something, and that feels like a worse copout than anything, to me.

Why is a mind wipe necessary? Luke could have hidden her on Tatooine as baby, just as Obi-wan did for him. Fits with the lack-of-imagination, over-the-top fan service, and the "let's just remake the original trilogy" angles too.

She was shown crying for her family when they left, unless you mean she was left as an orphan even before that, in which case that would be better.

I still contend that it would be a weak revelation, though, or at least based on the way they've set it up.

If the Falcon and Rey just happened to be sitting on the same rock, while the Falcon was clearly being tracked... yeah,... no.

Peter Mayhew passed away on 4/30. I believe he had already passed on duties as Chewbacca to Joonas Suotamo for Last Jedi, and they shared duties during Force Awakens. Sad to see, he was very active in attending conventions for fans, he loved his fans. He will be missed.

https://www.facebook.com/thewookieeroars/photos/a.598766583496408/2375211635851885/?type=3&theater

The family of Peter Mayhew, with deep love and sadness, regrets to share the news that Peter has passed away. He left us the evening of April 30, 2019 with his family by his side in his North Texas home.

Peter was the man behind the mask of Chewbacca in the original Star Wars trilogy, episode 3 of the prequels, and the New Trilogy. He fought his way back from being wheelchair-bound to stand tall and portray Chewbacca once more in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. He also consulted on The Last Jedi in an attempt to teach his successor. He put his heart and soul into the role of Chewbacca and it showed in every frame of the films from his knock kneed running, firing his bowcaster from the hip, his bright blue eyes, down to each subtle movement of his head and mouth. But, to him, the Star Wars family meant so much more to him than a role in a film.

The relationships that began then grew into the friends and family that he would love for decades to come. As the films released and became more well-known he had his eyes opened to the possibilities of what he could achieve with his role in the Star Wars universe. For more than 30 years Peter traveled all over the world spending time with his fans and friends. Peter developed lifelong friendships with the other cast members and his fans while on the convention circuit touching the lives of millions. As he realized over the years the impact he could have, he became heavily involved with the 501st legion, Wounded Warriors, Make-a-Wish, and other non-profit organizations.

To this end, he established the Peter Mayhew Foundation, supporting everything from individuals and families in crisis situations to food and supplies for children of Venezuela during their recent road to freedom. He not only provided funds but became personally involved with each individual, family and cause he supported.

As he grew older he continued to “soldier on” as he put it and was completely in his element around his fans and supporters. He grew great strength from the energy of his family, friends and the fans he knew and loved.

He is survived by his wife Angie and three children. His kindness, generosity and care will live on in the Peter Mayhew Foundation with Angie taking the helm as his voice.

There will be a memorial service for friends and family held on June 29th and in early December in Los Angeles there will be a memorial for fans set up with his family in attendance, personal effects, and collection at EmpireConLA.
For additional information, information on the memorials or to offer condolences email ryan@ReelAppearances.com

Rather than gifts and flowers the family asks that you consider donating to the foundation so that they can continue his efforts to help the community. You can donate at http://petermayhewfoundation.org/make-a-donation.php

I can't wait to see them throw out 2 hours worth of character development in the last 30 minutes of the film for no logical reason.

Also, I can't wait for the secret bad guy to reveal himself and then just wait for the good guys to come and execute him, even though all evidence had shown previously that he would totally have done everything possible to remain hidden or disappear entirely.

Rey is gonna be the first 'Skywalker,' aka Jedi/Sith combo that travels the Galaxy and teaches a healthy balance of the Force.

I'm assuming Luke and Yoda told her that she needs to embrace both sides of the Force to bring true balance, and that she needs to visit Palpatine's force ghost at the wreckage of the Death Star to learn from him. I'm betting his force ghost is tied to the Death Star because there was a Sith holocron on it or something.

This is why she either (1) encounters a vision of herself as having a red, double-bladed lightsaber, as she learns from Palpatine that she must also embrace the teachings of the Sith and face the worst version of herself, or (2) she legitimately wields a red lightsaber after defeating Kylo Ren in that ocean battle as she embraces her newly-found Sith alter-ego.

I honestly hope it's real, because Rey weilding a double-bladed lightsaber effectively actually makes sense based on her use of the staff.

Everyone is so gun shy because of the colossal failure that was TLJ. If that movie had been even mediocre people would be hype for this. Instead, people are waffling between trust of JJ Abrams and holdover resentment against Disney/Rian. That's why Solo didn't do great despite being a perfectly fine standalone movie.

I just really wish they would have added a 4th. TLJ was okay except for the fact that it was supposed to be the middle act of a trilogy. It ruined all of the momentum that TFA set up. I have no idea how JJ could salvage all of it in one movie. Realistically they need a 4th and just treat TLJ like a weird stand alone side quest.
