I know I am in the minority but to me, being pumped for this is like being pumped that your favorite baseball team just signed a guy that hits .160. Like 2 of the movies are good. But I do get that it's more about the phenomenon of Star Wars. It hooks into something.

If you're favorite baseball team is comparable to the Star Wars franchise then they just hired a hitter who's way better than .160. JJ Abrams has done really solid work with Star Trek, Super 8, Mission: Impossible, and Lost.

I would say that three of the six are good (two are among the best movies ever made) and they just so happen to be the ones in which 1) George Lucas had the least control and 2) CGI did not constantly replace real sets. The fact that George Lucas is not involved and Abrams has moved away from the CGI clusterfuck of the prequels should have any fan excited.

No. The third one (well, sixth) can make an argument for being decent though.

The prequels are really Star Wars being a victim of its own success. George Lucas became an icon for his work in the first three and as a result no one has the balls to tell him he was wrong the second time around. There are stories where during the first three Harrison Ford would tell Lucas stuff like "you can write it, but you can't say it" in regards to his awful writing, and they'd fix it. Fast forward to like 1997 and he was totally surrounded by yes-men.

There are videos out there of a guy single-handedly tearing them apart for hours on end. If you're on a long drive I would highly recommend.

Like 2 of the movies are good. But I do get that it's more about the phenomenon of Star Wars. It hooks into something.

It was absolutely mind-blowing to watch those first 3 as a kid during the early 80's, and they will always be a source of great romanticization for people from that generation.

I think a lot of it gets lost on people who watch them for the first time as an adult, or kids who watch it now, when so many other comparable options are available.

WTF was my point? Oh yeah: Movies age much better if you have a strong connection to them from your childhood.

*I love the first 3 SW, but the Indiana Jones trilogy is by far my favorite series. ROTLA is still one of my favorite movies ever.

I would strongly disagree that 2 are among the best movies ever made. Empire is really freaking good, thank Kasden for that, and Star Wars and Jedi have moments, but they also have some horrible moments. But this is my opinion and I totally back the idea that Star Wars changed movies. I remember waiting in line for Jedi when it came out and playing the Star Wars board game. But really, none of them are even close to the best Harrison Ford Sci FI movie. And they can't touch 2001. I just wonder at the popularity of a franchise that consistently under delivers. And even hard core fans agree that it under delivers. But being an ND fan, I should relate.

Well I have seen a version of the trailer and I clearly saw a mandalorian walking across the sand dune toward a wreck. I cannot for the life of me find it now. There was a leaked trailer just before the original and now I cant find it. I feel crazy now....smh.

I would strongly disagree that 2 are among the best movies ever made. From just pure cinematic/movie making perspectives, Episodes IV and V are two of the greatest movies ever. The score, characters, the effects, and the story are all classic and will never be able to be recaltured. The cultural impact of the movies cannot be underestimated either.

I hope Disney eventually explores The Old Republic once they get through Episode IX. I'd love to see the Mandalorian Wars or anything with Revan.

I thought it was too corny honestly and the ewoks sucked. I liked the revenge more than return but return is definitely a better made movie. Revenge was so damn entertaining with the CGI.

The first 20 minutes of ROTJ with Jabba's Palace, the Rancor pit, and the Sarlaac pit is great. I think most people hate the Ewoks, and trash it because of them. What nerve to put furry/silly little critters in a GODDAMN MOVIE FOR KIDS.....

Actually, to be fair, the first film did win six production and score Oscars, and was nominated for picture, director, screenplay, and supporting actor.

To this I say, as someone who saw it as a child, that whether or not they were put in for my age group, I hated the Ewoks. I think their inclusion was a sign of things to come from Lucas as he had convinced himself that he knew how to do funny/cute characters. Of course, this mistaken belief is what begat Jar Jar.
