It seems to me like some coaches handle it better than others, and I'm sure longevity comes into play. Freeman seems like an absolute road warrior, the hardest working coach I can remember, but you have to wonder how long anyone can keep up that grind. I can only imagine the stress it puts on these coaches' wives and families. I'm sure at some point most wear down a bit and start delegating.

It helps that he seems genuinely interested in ND's mission and helping develop young players, both on and off the field. Nothing he has said over the past year has seemed like coach speak, his enthusiasm seems 100% genuine.
Freeman has six kids at home. His wife should be nominated for the Broyles Award.

And yeah if Harbaugh has "growing frustration with college football itself" - and not just with missing on one of the cleanest title shots Michigan could possibly hope for - than he probably is better suited for the NFL at this point, and should just go there.

I hope this blows over cuz DeBoer will be lethal in Ann Arbor.

He's already building himself a nice cozy home in the Pacific Northwest. He should just stay there and continue to build a program that can hopefully harass Lincoln Riley for years to come.

Again, the best thing for us is for Harbaugh to stay at Michigan. You all don't understand how lazy he has been this past year and how much he has killed their recruiting of HS players. Michigan effectively signed ZERO players with active ND offers. ND signed multiple guys that Michigan wanted badly and the gap between Freeman & Harbaugh was a factor for many of them.

He is a good coach, but we don't play Michigan. We do recruit against Michigan. A hungrier guy in that role or a better NIL program from Michigan could be a major thorn in ND's side. Right now they are just treading water.

On the flip-side, they will continue to be a pain in the ass ON the field if Harbaugh sticks around and puts his efforts towards the transfer portal rather than high school recruiting.

If he keeps stealing good OL from other programs, they will continue to do what they did this year (pending finding a decent QB every two or three years, of course).

He recruits well. Look at the dip ND took when Kelly was flirting with the NFL. Michigan recruiting will be fine. They will be around top 10 again very soon pending Harbaugh staying or leaving or pretend leaving.

Nah truthfully screw the NCAA a million times for this, I don't care that it's Michigan. The NCAA has completely ruined the sport and won't do anything about the inducements being done by 95% of the teams, but they're gonna enforce the rules on Michigan for having an analyst coach? Weak.

Michigan and USC are always the exception. You never take for granted an opportunity to see them burn.
I get the sentiment, but this is the same sort of injustice that we catch from time to time. Can't cheer for it lest we tempt fate.

This. I don't think it's worst-case scenario, but something pretty close to it would be a guy like PJ Fleck getting the Michigan job. Don't know if he'd ever be a candidate, but I think he's a decent coach (probably not on Harbaugh's level) and would be a nightmare recruiting against.

Yep. Harbaugh is a good coach but not really a great recruiter. Since we don't play them, the fact that he's a good coach doesn't actually affect us all that much. But a better/more aggressive recruiter in that job would be a problem.

Article from Rittenburg/Schlabach said Harbaugh is expected to stay. I hope he does so he can be on the sideline when ND wins their next matchup.
