Yeah big ten totally screwed things up from the get go. Completely panicked in the summer and they're scrambling now. Poor leadership from top to bottom

Why don’t Ohio State and Michigan just play in two weeks? The Big Ten doesn’t have to change it’s minimum games requirement and it gives Michigan time to recover from covid. Seems like a simple solution that no one is discussing.

that would make for a tough doubleheader for the Buckeyes considering the Big 10 championship game is D19.

But the league is weak maybe they could pull it off.

I’m saying IU and Northwestern should play in the Big Ten championship, while Ohio State and Michigan play a make up game the same day.

This would prevent “The Game” (barf) from getting canceled. It also would give the CFP Committee an extra “data point” so they’re not letting a 5 win team in the playoffs. I doubt the Committee cares all that much if Ohio State is “officially” designated the Big Ten champion if they’re undefeated and beat the official champion.

Bc when OSU beats scUM they will be 6-0 and qualify for the B10 championship to finish 7-0...will be better for CFP to justify putting them in

That’s obviously the preferred scenario, but it seems like Michigan is likely going to cancel due to covid as things currently stand.

Smelled a foul stench in the air so I decided to check the boards. Sure enough, this thread had been bumped.

I think Matt Campbell is a mirage propped up by a terrible Big 12 so meh. He might have a higher ceiling but his floor is very low IMO.

He might be a mirage. But they could just as easily hire Clark Lea and run their program back into perennial top 10 discussion with a solid culture. We know what Harbaugh is and I’m perfectly content with that. And we all should be. Michigan has too much money to become Rutgers, so our best scenario is a long time coach who wins 7 games regularly and 10 games once every 5 years. We should want a coach at UM who teeters on mediocrity.

I'm a little worried that Elston could get poached for DC. Why? Just irrational fears

That would make it all the more important to keep Lea b/c Elston would be Clark's replacement if he left I would think right?

I would have thought so, but Irish Illustrated podcast said that Marcus Freeman would be a slam dunk hire if Lea left.

It would assuming he would take the job. Reports are he’s really close to Fickell. I think they’re living together while one of their homes is under construction. But you’re right, he would be a home run hire IMO

Michigan has lost 15 of the last 16 games to Ohio State. In their last two games, Ohio State has scored 118 points.
Michigan is 4-9 against Michigan State in their last thirteen games.
Michigan is also 3-11 in the last fourteen bowl games they have played back to 2004 (three years in that span they did not qualify for bowls).
It's been sixteen years since Michigan won the Big Ten title. Ohio State has won or shared that title nine times and Michigan State has won it three times in that span.

How do you sell that to recruits and alumni? "Maybe next year?"

The goal for all programs: an arch rival whose coach is too good to fire, but not good enough to be a problem.

they're stating he'd definitely leave. I really think he'd stay with fickell.

Unsurprising to me. In a similar way that Clark Lea taking the Vandy job/BC job last year is good for your career, Freeman taking the ND DC job would be significantly better for his career than just staying at UC.

Agree a hundred, but Fickell and Freeman are legit best friends. They're families i'm told currently are living together in Cincy while one of them is getting a house built

I think they're such good friends that Fickell would push Freeman to take the ND DC job if offered, and if he weren't getting a decent HC offer somewhere.

From what I hear, UC was lucky to hold onto Freeman after last season as it is, independent of Fickell's 'flirtation' with MSU.

The curveball? Fickell likes a job that's open this year, and Freeman gets named HC at UC.

Wow, hats off to this guy for doubling down on news coming. Could be that he is fired, could be that he is extended, or could be just that he will ride out the last year of his deal. Absolutely informative tweet from his "good sources"..
