It is what everyone with half a brain suspected. He used it as a ploy for a contract. Coincidentally right after this announcement, they announced he signed a 2 year extension for more money, I would assume more money for assistants as well. Also a continued 5 year rolling contract, which is essentially a lifetime contract.

I was talking to a buddy of mine at the bar after softball last night. He's a very rare breed of Skunkbear fan who you can actually have a reasonable conversation with.
He was pointing out how this is his 4th year, and he's starting his 3rd transfer QB in 4 years. That isn't how you build a program. He said one more 8 win season and he wants him out. Not sure if they would actually fire him after 4 years, but I guess it's possible.
They have a very tough schedule this year, so I could see 8 wins happening, even if this is a decently talented football team for their standards. I just don't know if the media is discussing properly how hot his seat actually is.
I would love to see the Harbaugh experiment crash and burn. If he can't turn them around, I don't know who can.

Hopefully Patterson starting as QB can get McCaffery/Peters to transfer out, leaving them thin at QB.

The two players who have transferred are Kareem Walker, RB and Kekoa (Dylan) Crawford, WR. Both are from the Class of '16. Michigan is at 85 scholarships.
Michigan has 5 fifth year Seniors, 2 true Seniors and ten RS Juniors. Grant Newsome, OT, technically a RS Jr, has not played in over a year due to a very serious knee injury. He was not cleared to play this spring. He would be eligible for a sixth year if he gets to that point.

I'm kind pissed at our staff if that's true lol.
Not only is it hypocritical, but it's lazy and easily turned around.
I'm hoping it was a simple "here's what quality of life looks like in different parts of the country," and the scUM people ran with it as a direct attack.

After thinking about it for another few minutes, I'm almost 100% certain that there's no way anyone on ND's staff would make that pitch.
If there is anyone on the staff that thought it would be a good idea to (1) pretend Ann Arbor and Detroit are the same thing and (2) not realize "hmmm South Bend isn't great, this might look bad if anyone does a minute's worth of research," they should grab their shit and leave.
