You are still looking at this from a football fan angle... I promise you that room is not filled with myopic views like that.

You might be right. I'm skeptical, but I'm not in academics either. I won't fight you on this, I'm directing my energy at explaining that I don't want Urban Meyer to stay now, lol.

You've made it pretty clear you're on his side.......

I don't agree with the outcome, or that they're probably thinking about it.

My assumption is they are - you guys can disagree with that or not.

My "credit" was for the first person to have the ballz to actually say that out loud, rather than just spin around it but derive at the same conclusion.

IMO, there will be 2 types of people in there. 1) that knows they want to keep Urban, but will be politically correct and 'ignore' the fact that he's a great coach, but they'll be making sure to protect him in their reasoning. 2) One that also wants to keep him, and actually has the stones to speak directly about how great he is and how it factors in to the other BOT's.

Neither are the right way of thinking, but I at least respect person #2 for not faking it.

Got it.

urbie's wife now just showed up to the longaberger alumni house

There has to be a press conference shortly with these two scumbags. It will be nauseating. Him and his wife condemning domestic violence and professing their innocence. They are disgusting human beings.

I don't agree he should stay. At least I don't have enough info to know one way or another.

I'm saying he's staying, and I at least have some respect for the BOT's that actually talk openly about his greatness playing a factor, over the BOT's who will do that anyway, but talk around it acting like it's not a factor.

This I agree with but hope there is a third option in the room like ACamp was saying that disregard the coaching ability and look at the facts as they should. Unfortunately, those people will most likely be in the minority and will have little to no impact on the final decision.

Koon, to think a school has a BoT that bows to the FB coach is crazy. There may some on the BoT that worship UM, but ACamp is right. There are some on there that don't give a hoot who he is and the school comes before him.

It's a well known fact ND has some of these folks as well.

Yeah, I mean I'd be naive to pretend I know what the BOT's really think. But I'm skeptical because UM is a once in ~20 years talent.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Board of Trustees typically wealthy alums who are invested in the school's "all around" success? I didn't think faculty typically comprised the Board?

*Clark Kellogg is on the BoT. Don't tell me that guy doesn't give a hoot who the FB coach is.

I promise some academia don't care if he's the best ever, but it will come down to; 1) How many FB fans are on the board and 2) How much of the contract would they have to eat if they terminated him?

Pretty much all businesspeople.

I wouldn’t assume they all worship at the altar of Urban. I wouldn’t assume they don’t. I do, though, note that, being a state university, most are political appointees. I’d think at least some will be mindful of political backlash from appearing to place a football coach above victims of domestic violence. I’d like to think that, anyway.

Getting late and still no decision,

How can Meyer refuse to serve a suspension?

The argument he will put forward is...a suspension is admission of guilt and will be used against OSU in recruiting.

I don't necessarily buy this. The BoT can vote at any time to do what they want. Or at least I would think so. Can't see one person - even the President - holding the BoT up.

The decision is the Presidents to make, but he works at the pleasure of the Board. So I could see him holding it up and the Board applying pressure.

I doubt the BoT has the authority to directly discipline the football coach. They're only being brought into this so everyone is suborned into the final decision on a public matter.

Well I guess he would walk away from the job. Apparently he is telling the President to fire him or reinstate him without a suspension.

Complete shit show. Will be near impossible to get back to business as usual. With or without suspension UM has used his Mulligan. Expect a short leash, anything less than a Natty and the president will be screening his calls.

I wonder if this is the case. Meyer has to know that Columbus will be a shit show of reporters and spotlight (for all the wrong reasons) this year. He didn’t exactly rally the troops at Florida when things took a turn, I wonder if he is viewing this as a everyone is behind me on this or I’m out situation.

In any case, if Meyer is fighting this on any level, what an absolutely awful position the school would be in.
