I genuinely wonder if Urban can survive this.

I really, really hope not.

I never thought for a second that Meyer would ever be the HC at ND. This should cement it but I know some crazy fans will still have no problem with him.

I gave him the benefit of the doubt after UF since every program (even ND) has their warts. But this cinches it for me. If true, Meyer needs to be gone.

If tOSU can fire a HC for tattoos & lying to the NCAA, this should be a slam dunk...right?

SO WAIT.

OSU taught themselves a lesson by firing their beloved son, Jim Tressel.

And now their moral high ground replacement is not the saint they thought?!?!?!

But but but one of Urban’s three rules is respect women...

What’s insane is that he was dumb enough to risk his whole career over a mediocre WR coach...

I wonder how big a part Earle Bruce played in this. He’s Urban’s mentor and the one who helped boost his career. The medicore WR coach being Bruce’s grandson likely played a big part in how this went down

pOSU boards are rightfully concerned. The thing I find interesting is that many on those boards think that if Urbs is fired, that Schiano would be hired as the next head coach. Given his history and hearsay that he knew about Paterno etc., I don't see how pOSU would make that hire in this situation.

Also of note and no one seems to be bringing it up, Hiram DeFries and Earle Bruce (Urban's oldest, closest mentors) talked Smith's wife out of pressing charges the first time he abused her.

He most certainly knew of that first instance and should have watched out for anymore potential issues. But it seems that because Smith was Bruce's grandson, Urban continued to turn a blind eye to these issues so that he could keep coaching.

The one who is really going to look bad in this, assuming it is true, is Shelley Meyer.

As an employee of OSU, (ironically in the Health dep't) she had an Obligation to report Smith under Title XI.

She has absolutely no excuses....none.

Will she go down with ship and say Urban never knew, because she kept it completely from him, by lying through omission.

She is weakest of links in this horrid situation.

My heart can't take all this stress...

On a serious note, if Urban knew - and it looks like he did - he is in a real mess. Will he survive? Hard to say but it is going to test tOSU for sure.

ANOTHER ANGLE:

Urban kept that POS on his staff for years, likely because of nepotism.

Is there a chance that Urban also kept him around because he knew Smith would be the type of douchebag to go scorched-earth on his previous employer if he were to be let go for any reason? Like, "I'll blab to the papers and the media bros about all the illegal, shady, rule-breaking shit that we've done in our time at OSU!"

Smith says in one of his texts that if his wife ratted on him, and he lost his job, he'd take everyone down with him... Columbus could get really interesting if they don't find a way to both salvage Urban's reputation and also pay hush money to the POS that they just fired.

Exactly. Knowing what was communicated between Shelley & Urbs could be the missing link.

I had a buddy on another board bring up a great scenario:

Meyer is replaced by Schiano on an interim basis. He leads tOSU to B1G championship. Meanwhile, UT is struggling under Pruitt and their fans become irrationally apoplectic.

My bet is that Urban keeps his job based on this, right here, and this alone.

Smith's ex-wife can prove that Shelly Meyer knew, but she can't prove that Shelly told Urban.

Of course she told Urban, we all know that, but that can't be proven as a fact based on what McMurphy has released to this point.

So Urban might skate on plausible deniability, but that means he's letting his own wife take the fall for not passing on the message to him or to the school.

Yeesh.

Funny thing is ND is probaby the one place that could Keep Meyer and his dirt bag tendencies in line. Our administration would have fired Smith instantly.

Unless he has documented proof, it won't be anything more than a scorned ex-employee. It takes a lot to bring down a powerful coach and can happen - see JoePa - but throwing out unsubstantiated accusations of wrongdoing by Urban and staff isn't going to do it. Maybe he does have the goods and if so, things get interesting fast. Urban needs to be more worried about his knowledge of domestic abuse and then lying to cover it up. If it is proven he knew of course.

This is great. The UT fans were beyond ridiculous during that coaching search. They would deserve this.

Unbelievably, ESPN still hasn't touched this story. They did find time for "Report faults University of Idaho over sex assault complaint"

Two weeks after the Oct. 25, 2015 incident, a Nov. 5, 2015 text exchange between Lindsey Voltolini and Courtney shows Meyer talked to Zach Smith about the incident.

Courtney: “(Zach’s) trying to make me look crazy bc that’s what Shelley is saying (he’s doing)”

Lindsey: “He (Urban) just said he (Zach) denied everything”

Courtney: “I hope urban is smarter than that”

Lindsey: “He (Urban) doesn’t know what to think”

Courtney: “I don’t really care. Ya know”

Lindsey: “Yeah, don’t worry about urb

I can't seriously believe OSU would keep Meyer after this. That would be incredible.

thought Jemele Hill would be all over this from the get-go

well being a Mich St alum, she is probably at her computer now typing up her story. But then again... her school has had their own mess for a while. Don't know how vocal she was about the Mich St stuff as I can't stand her or her work.

Maybe if he still resents Shelly for making him leave his [alleged] coed lover behind in Gainsville, he'd let it happen.

Still waiting for the statement from Urban or Gene Smith that holds the magic "Get Out of Jail Free" explanation.
