Yeah, I have conflicting thoughts about this:

1. I love it being shoved in Ohio State's face because Urban Meyer lies about their academic prowess all the time. All the time. Numbers don't lie... you're (one of) the worst schools in your conference AND you don't even get kids their degrees.

2. I don't like that we have a reporter acting as an agent of ND's interests so explicitly on social media. That's a bad look, IMO. I've always ripped on Hopkins and Michigan reporters for doing exactly that.

USNWR Ranking:

1 - Northwestern: 12
2 - Michigan: 27
3 - Illinois: 44
4 - Wisconsin: 44
5 - Penn State: 50
6 - Ohio State: 54
7 - Purdue: 60
8 - Maryland: 60
9 - Rutgers: 70
10 - Minnesota: 71
11 - Michigan State: 82
12 - Iowa: 82
13 - Indiana: 86
14 - Nebraska: 111

Also ranks as the #16 public school, #22 school with an FBS team, and #17 school in a power five conference. It's not the Ohio State of the 1990s when they took literally any Ohio high school graduate, today's freshmen class has an average ACT of 29.2--for a class of 13,000+ that is impressive.

But yes, Urban Meyer is a total fraud on academics. The Buckeyes are actually in last place among Big Ten teams with a 69% GSR. Nice.

I had no idea Purdue was ranked that low and completely forgot about Rutgers, Maryland, and Nebraska being in the Big Ten.

IMO, them being middle of the pack academically makes them being bottom of the pack in GSR even more perplexing.

Can't imagine ever giving an OSU grad the same respect in an interview as a Purdue grad. But hey, I'm from the astronaut era.

That would make sense. Purdue is still the #8 undergraduate Engineering school according to USNWR. Whereas Ohio State is #30 and Notre Dame is #40.

FWIW they have the fourth-ranked law school in the Big Ten, #30 nationally. Our very own gkirish is a graduate.

Ohio State's medical school now ranks third in the Big Ten. It helps to build a $1.5 billion research hospital. And just five months ago they announced "hey we're going to build another cancer hospital too.." When I graduated in 2013 there was something like $2.5-3 billion in active construction on campus. When I came back for a game in 2015 whole sections of campus were unrecognizable.

Just saying. We gotta disconnect the football team from the university. Ohio State is one of the busiest universities in the Midwest right now. Columbus and Ohio State have really developed an impressive relationship that has put both on the map in ways they simply weren't 15-20 years ago.

Right, I agree. It's a hard thing to do too on a football board. The unfortunate part is, we aren't seeing that translate to the football team right now.

Meyer signed an extension at Florida in the summer of 2009 that would've kept him around for another 6 years. Instead, in 2 years he was "retired". I don't think the negative recruiting will stop with this latest contract extension.

Kids have short memories. It might not stop the negative recruiting, but I think the kids will Believe Urban when he says he isn't leaving more.

Kids are going to believe who they want to believe. If Urban tells them he isn't going anywhere, what difference does a contract make? For people willing to be persuaded by "evidence", the contract and Florida example wash. Comes back to who do you believe more....Urban or the other coach?

Right. Kind of my point, but you did better haha. I have a hard time thinking, unless the kid is already on the fence, that a coach will be able to plant that seed of doubt right now. Could be wrong though.

I'm sure the 7.6 mill a year extension is coincidentally just ever so slightly higher than the 7.5 mill per year for Jimbo.

Wait, what? Coaches are telling kids stories about other coaches leaving? All this time I thought this was an honorable profession where adult men have the kids best interest at heart.

No surprise there, he balled out against the Skunkbears when JT went out in the second half. I think he'll be an overall improvement to their offense. Hard to knock JT for all the games he won, including a ring, but it doesn't take a football guru to see how much his compete level athleticism made up for his shortfalls as a QB.

Be interested to see if Tate Martell sticks around now.

My Buckeye friends think Martell is going to get redzone packages this year to keep him engaged. I didn't think he's that much better of an athlete than Haskins, so we'll see I guess.

One domestic violence issue and trespassing issue for the WR coach at Ohio State since 2009. I’m sorry but who’s parents are allowing their WR sons to attend a school and have this jerkoff as their position coach??? Garrett Wilson decommits in 3,2,1...

It's kind of insane to think he kept his job in 2009... but even more insane considering he also had an incident in 2015. No wonder Zeke Elliott turned out how he did with these kind of behavior being tolerated among people who are supposed to be role models.

Curious to see if any of the reporters at B1G media day nut up and ask Urban why Smith was able to keep his job, and only lost it once the reports became public.

Right, it'll be very interesting to see if anyone has the balls to do it. I imagine a national reporter from The Athletic or SI - if in attendance - might do it.
