Smart money is on Oklahoma, but I don’t think ND is quite as dead in the water as some may believe. He certainly isn’t as 100% done deal locked in on Oklahoma as many on their side pretend. Which means there’s at least a small sliver of hope.

Their writers will probably come out after the fact and say “he committed months ago” but honestly I think he said to them what they wanted to hear to get them to chill a little. Same way ND writers would be like “he always said he was sticking with ND.”

Piecing some stuff together… if he was actually a done deal to Oklahoma, he would be acting differently than he is. But I still make them the HEAVY favorites mainly because of what people are saying about the GF and other connections. Anyone who is “confident” in their sources right now is just making an educated bet tho.
When I said early yesterday that I was pretty confident that he wasn’t 100% “done deal” to Oklahoma it was because of an Oregon person who said there had been “active negotiation” with them recently.

Never expected Driskell to be like “Oregon offered $2mil and Oklahoma is matching!” and I have no idea if that’s accurate or not. But at minimum he’s using Oregon as a leverage play to extract value from Oklahoma.
I never actually thought he'd pick Oregon, I thought it was mainly a play to get his compensation up from Oklahoma. But you can only see the same movie so many times before you stop being surprised by the ending. Kids who tell multiple schools the same thing while committed to ND do not end up signing with ND 90%+ of the time. They are inherently comfortable with being duplicitous, because you have to be constantly lying to multiple people for months on end. I'm not impugning their character, I understand the game and that coaches lie to kids constantly too. But kids who end up committing to and sticking with ND usually behave a certain way and it's not how Bowen did.

To provide more clarity on the Oregon thing... I was shocked to hear the $2mil number. But I was not surprised at all that he was listening to NIL pitches. He had Texas A&M in his top group for a long time strictly for NIL reasons. The Oregon stuff I'd heard was second hand through a loose connection but long story short they told me he was definitely not locked in to Oklahoma because his "camp" was actively participating in seeing what kind of NIL deal they could line up. Which is very different than just "listening" to a pitch and not giving any feedback. The only surprise to me is that this wasn't a leverage play against Oklahoma. Everything else is 0% surprising if you pay attention to actions vs noise.

Mom looked unhappy didn’t seem like a family decision and I lost all respect for this kid he wasn’t loyal to guys he considered friends what makes his GF think he’s gonna be loyal at Oregon

Oregon executed a unique position with Limar and Bowen in that both younger brothers potentially are not as highly recruited as the older brothers. A sensitive tightrope to walk but I’m sure they basically convinced Dad that taking the money for Jayden and Peyton was the safe play for the whole families futures. Would be shocked if Eli and Jashon are not Ducks.

Also guys... of the three 5-star misses due to NIL... Keon Keeley is by far the biggest. That kid is actually a GREAT fit for ND. Might be a little overrated as a prospect but he is exactly the kind of kid who fits well at ND and you need to sign.

Dante Moore was a huge bullet dodged.

Peyton Bowen we'll see... but there are a lot of things here that are red flags: lying to Oklahoma players, lying to friends at his HS, lying to his GF, lying to ND players and coaches, committing to a place he's never visited strictly for the $$, how he went about committing to that place, etc. He is nowhere close to Dante Moore level red flags, but there are a lot. Think he will be a great college player but we'll see.

The new (commit for) 4 (months) for 40 years.
This is going to happen to Notre Dame 3-5 times every cycle going forward and always at the top of their class. It's never going to end well, and it's going to hold the program back from taking a meaningful step forward.

It's already happened once in the 24 class, and I bet it happens with at least one person currently committed to ND.

This is what we get for following a poverty program. Hope our moral high ground is worth watching our top 3 recruits get bought out from under us every cycle.

And not surprisingly then Keeley handled as close to okay as you can and infinitely better than Moore and Bowen

Just because I've seen in mentioned a couple of times. He did take an unofficial visit to Oregon with his brother during the season. And came back with this.

The College Football Inquirer pod was talking the other day about how SCOTUS might be ruling within 1-2 years on the ongoing NLRB case in California involving USC about having athletes classified as employees. It’s a rapidly evolving landscape. What college football looks like today is drastically different than just 5 years ago and it might change just as much, or more, in the next 5 years.

At the end of the day, no matter the landscape, ND still has a ton to offer kids. We are going to lose some, but the ones we lose might not have stuck. Maybe they would have. But, we are still going to get some very good football players and we know for sure that they are choosing ND for more than what they can get up front.

I respect him quite a bit for being honest about his intentions and handling his decommitment the right way.
