I know you guys are tight and you put a lot of stock into his chops as a beat reporter. Just hoping he’ll throw you a bone this one time.

I don’t know that I agree that posting an update 3 hours ago the day before signing day is forced. It’s a recruiting website. Be kinda bizarre to just do nothing.

Think he flips in the end, but we’re in shoot the messenger territory with some of these

I could call the guys he has spy on me (which he never knew they told me everything because they also think he is a d-bag). They can let me know which site he is currently reading (could be this one right now).

I think the claim of potstirring isn't due to posting updates, because you're right that should be expected. It's more that the tone of the updates have suddenly changed over the course of 3 hours to favor ND when no one has actually provided any information that would justify the change in tone.

The whole "I'm now hearing things that make me think thoughts I previously wasn't thinking" comes across as "I have no real changed information but this is my last chance to get clicks on this cycle" because no one is providing any details on what they've heard to justify the change.

That’s normal though. Completely common practice for how anyone does updates.

BUT my guess would be increased optimism would theoretically be due to OU still hasn’t gotten their long waited confirmation and possibly even not heard from Bowen. That would just be my generic guess at what could change.

I think this is what gets good beat/recruiting journos in trouble with us rabid fans. It's gotta be an impossible line to walk when these big time recruits and reporting shifts at the last minute.

It's more than likely there has been serious shifting going on in PBs head as the OU guys, Loy, and Fong are all saying the same basic thing. But none of them can say *how* they know it because it will burn their bridges going forward with other recruits.


This is just how it looks when we get down to decisions that color our favorite past time / obsession.

I posted the other day that I don't too invested in recruiting. Well here I am checking again. I guess a more apt description is that I accept disappointment, but still have to know.

Right, so there is direct financial incentive to drum up drama here. Saying "he's going to Oklahoma" and taking the suspense out of it would literally cost them money.

Look, I hope he comes to ND as much as anyone. I just think it's convenient how we've gone from "Marcus Freeman isn't even going to visit" to "oooooo looks like it might be ND for Bowen!!! stay glued to your computer to follow all the twists and turns!!"

And to be clear, this is 0% a slight on Loy. He is a true professional and very good at his job. I'm just saying the industry as a whole has financial incentive for things to be as suspenseful and dramatic as possible.

I would normally agree with you on this, especially when it comes to On3 and 247 but when you have this many sites simultaneously reporting positive news about NDs chances I think its probably pretty realistic

Kind of runs the pattern of his whole recruitment, the family is tight lipped with divisions in his innercircle of where he should go. Not saying you’re wrong but for some of these beat guys are pretty optimistic now and the Oklahoma guys are reportedly shakier. I also don’t know if Loy and Fong would roll their predictions to ND, that would hurt their credibility long term. I think Loy, Fongs, and Driskells sources are all newly optimistic towards ND and the recruiting sites are reporting as such with some spin to get clicks.

Now are the ND sources correct in their optimism? I think that’s def up to debate.

Good part is we’ll find out tomorrow!
