just to play devils advocate here.

1. there could be A LOT that has changed since he committed 1/1/22. including multiple visits to both aTm and OU.
2. Depending on Joseph, the entire DB backfield could be returning and Dylan Edwards might like a say on return specialist
3. Dad COULD be 100% pro OU/aTM/bagman we have no idea and we also dont know that mom is 100%. Also, having mom in ND corner isnt a slam dunk, we have seen it go both ways many times.
4. His recruitment has been exactly this. Stringing along. 2023 S Peyton Bowen closing in on decision with in-home visits nearing Headlines like this from our own beat writers dont exactly make it seem like hes "locked in" so a flip is definitely on the table.
Point is he committed to us on 1/1/22 and he knew he was going to take more visits why not just decomitt 6 months ago and go on all his officials then pick a team?

I think Peyton ends up sticking and here's why.
1. He committed to us in the first place for a reason.
2. He is almost guaranteed to start at Safety and kick/punt returner next year.
3. Mom is 100% pro Notre Dame and I believe she is in our corner.
4. Peyton doesn't seem like the type who would string the staff along and lie. I think if he would have decomitted by now it would have been last week or weeks/months ago. He hasn't yet. Do people really think he is going to flip on national signing day? That would be a bad look and a slap in our coaches faces. Not a good look at all.

Well, someone is getting played here.

why not go on his visits before committing if he knew he was going to take them?
why indicate theres a decision to be made if you have already made one?

Because it's hard for high school kids to disappoint adults that they have relationships with.

Amorion Walker didn't want to have "The Conversation" with the ND staff last year, so he just... never had it. He sent his fax to scUM and that was it.

It's a tough conversation, and it's a tough situation in general, especially when you're being pulled in several directions by different factors.

My parents would argue against this.

I dont know if he stays or flips but it is hard to trust Thune. He is just a fanboy that 247 pays. Hes like another Taylor Hamm/EJ Holland type.
He's basically said he's spent so much time at Guyer this year and everyone he's talked to has come to the same conclusion on where Bowen ends up and that's OU.

That's where the parents should intervene and tell him "Look, we're gonna support your decision no matter who you choose, but we're not going to play games with these coaches. We raised you better than to lie. If you're committed to ND, you're committed to ND. But don't tell them one thing and then do the other."

Genuine question... has Roberts ever not had a very positive update? He's been way off on a bunch of recruitments this year.
like the OU beat writers who have said since late summer that Bowen was flipping to the sooners but is still in our class

1. Because he has leverage. He is a top of the pile player that can go anywhere he damn well pleases and he knows that. There isn’t a program in America what would drop their offer if he visited elsewhere.
2. Because it is fun. If in a matter of months, then weeks, you were staring down the barrel of a South Bend winter a long ways from home, you too might try and get as much fun as possible crammed into the time remaining.

I swear, some folks wouldn’t be happy with this kid being committed to ND if, every weekend, he did anything other than stay home and memorize the words to Notre Dame Our Mother. Newsflash, Notre Dame means more to you than it does to him. It’s that way now and it’ll be that way after his college playing days are over. But the big difference is, he is talented enough to have earned the privilege of sacrificing his body for our enjoyment at ND. He will put in the work to make ND better, we will not. He will make game saving tackles and pick-6s and suffer CTE and we will not.

He has earned his place and his privilege. We have not earned the privilege of no longer fretting over where he signs.

Maybe they’ve already had that talk and that’s why he’s still committed.

It’s that time of year when 247 has to sell subscriptions. How do you sell subscriptions? Manufacture drama. Maybe Bowen sticks, maybe he doesn’t. The only one who knows is Bowen. Not Ryan Roberts, not the OU 247 site.

We’ve got MF and O’Leary on the case. If they can’t close the deal then it wasn’t meant to be and we move on. It’s a great class with a great returning roster with a good, manageable schedule and a possible top QB transfer coming in Card.

Bowen signs with us then we welcome him with open arms and if he doesn’t, we wish him well. We don’t need another Eddie Vanderdoes, Deontay Greenberry, etc.

venables does have a better track record as a DC putting guys in the league tho right - might be due to experience differences but still.

While he might be weird and all that, there has a been a lot of elite defenses/players coached by him.

Meh, I'd say Freeman can make a very easy counterpoint, given his track record with sending DB's into the draft, given Sauce just went 4th overall in the last draft. He also coached Kyle Hamilton, another early first rounder.

I think he sent 6 defensive backs over the past 5 seasons, including 2 early first round picks.

Glad Kelly actually put his own thoughts in there. I often wonder if our recruiting analysts know more than they give out to subscribers just to keep the clicks coming.

Prolly smart to spread out the visits. Leary first, then maybe Bowden, Mickens, Golden, then MFMF to ice the cake maybe?

Reading into things this does look like they are in a fight,... this would go against the idea that PB is firm and there's nothing to the other reports.

OU expected to do all the same things FWIW

I wonder if they’ve figured out what excuse to get Bowden on the trail yet? Golden got a graduation or anything to attend

I just don't see how this ends well for ND. Loy is already in "we will see" mode.

Many have transitioned to this type of conclusion with Bowen. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it's been the nature of the recruitment. Delayed decisions, more visits, Bowen not saying much of anything other than "lip service".

Everyone, even most of us, have been in "we will see" mode for the last month or two.

Exactly... to his credit Singer has been this way for a while. Basically "I don't know, but sticking with ND because nothing has been said he isn't uncommitting" type of thing.

As long as he's committed till signing day, yeah send Freeman at the very end. If he flips before then or starts to waiver I'd say full court press.
