I can’t read the article but when is he taking these (as-yet theoretical) OVs? If it’s spring, imo, worth the wait. It’s already mid-April.

Obvs we can’t let this drift into the fall but anyone we’d get to commit before, say, June in his stead would be seriously settling or a shotgun marriage at best. Don’t panic. This remains our recruitment to lose.

Please tell me you're trolling lol
They should 100% entertain CV's commitment at this point. It's clear, regardless of how it ends, the DM recruitment is not panning out the way the staff had hoped.

Yeah I'm not at all convinced that landing Dante Moore 8 weeks from now rather than today hurts our recruiting momentum lol.
Two words: Carnell Tate

DM could very well be the difference here. You telling me there's no difference in landing him or not?

I believe that Tate is a 100% OSU lock regardless, and fwiw Tate has also said that he's going to come to a decision sometime in the summer.
I think it's way too soon to say that Dante Moore's recruitment isn't panning out the way ND had hoped. I just think it's actually crazy to say that ND should move on from a top 5 overall player because......he may take OVs and decide in the summer. The only way this recruitment doesn't pan out is if ND misses.

Idk about moving on from Moore over an extra 2.5 months to the time table, especially if they still feel like they're in the driver's seat.

He wants to make a decision prior to his season, which would mean mid-July at the latest (as long as he means 'before camp' when he says by his season, and not 'first game').

Even if ND expected an April decision, they're only losing 2-3 months if he makes a summer decision, and if he DOESN'T pick ND in the end after the delays, the extra time wasn't going to help them with another highly-rated guy like CV anyway, at least IMO.

If he picks ND after a delay, he still has 5 months to recruit some pass catchers.
If he picks someone else after a delay, ND has 5 months to find a 3-star guy to bridge the gap to Sayin/Carr/???
Maybe I'm not understanding this correctly but you don't think that if the staff had spent this entire time and into the summer recruiting both, like priorities, that would matter with Vizzina?

After last cycle, this shouldn't be an acceptable outcome for Rees's QB room.

I get the frustration about the CV thing but it's crazy how many times the "Moore planning to take official visits" story has been repeated and how everyone freaks out about it every time.
You aren’t wrong but I think what people are speculating on (and worried about) is whether he’s NIL shopping or not.

Well, to be fair, he just said there is a 20-25% chance his recruitment goes into the Fall. That's new information. Also, it seemed like with every update there is a certain belief that he won't actually take them. I was even slightly skeptical they'd occur. But, it seems like they're indeed taking place and likely to NIL U's. Where the dollar figures are going to be insane.

For as long as this NIL chaos continues, we need to make certain assumptions:
  • Any top 5 skill player is going to be offered a multi-million dollar NIL contract from multiple schools;
  • ND is not going to offer anything comparable; and
  • Therefore, we are not going to sign any top 5 skill players.
There may be some exceptions. For instance, my 10yo son is QB1 on his team, and he has the potential to be great. If ND offers, he's shutting everything down and irrevocably committing on the spot, no questions asked. But both of his parents are alums, and we don't need the money, so he'd hardly be a typical QB recruit.

Anyone who wants to "hear all offers before deciding" is going to get bought and end up playing elsewhere.

Now you are contractually obligated to keep us posted on his progress.

And this is the concern but maybe it's just me. This screams searching for fair value. Maybe that ends up back at ND but I don't think our 2023 QB hopes should ride on it. That just seems, well, unnecessary.

I’m still surprised our alumni and subway alums can’t get a substantial NIL routine going,…

I think Tommy and MFMF have done a great job here and more or less all they could. This is a NIL world, and we are all just passengers on the train.

Never said move on. I said they should also consider CV's commitment at this time instead of going all-in on Moore. How many times do we need to get burned before we stop putting all our eggs in a single basket?

I meant independent of whether or not they screwed up with CV.

My point is that in the vacuum of 'waiting on Moore,' the extra two months isn't a huge detriment, imo. If he picks ND, he's still got 5 months to recruit.

If he spurns ND, ND still has 5 months to steal a developmental guy that they like from someone else, since they're likely full-court pressing Sayin or Carr at that point anyway.

If CV were still involved, then yes all the time they've spent courting Moore would absolutely have helped with CV... but since that's not what played out, I'm saying it's foolish to 'move on' from Moore.

It's confusing because Moore has always said from the beginning he would take OV's so it shouldn't be surprising.

I think the staff is willing to wait and not just take a lesser QB like Kelly would.
Kelly usually got the guy he wanted.
He wanted Golsen.
He wanted Zaire.
He wanted Wimbush.
Not sure about Kizer.
He wanted Jurkovec.
He wanted McNamara, got him, then he flipped late, so got Clarke.
He wanted Pyne.
He wanted Buchner.

You can argue he didn’t choose right, but he did get who he wanted.

I’m less concerned with the fact that School XYZ could offer NIL as much as School XYZ doesn’t have a QB committed, which is the much more obvious reason for remaining interest.

NIL U Texas A&M just had their QB decommit and Oregon can’t close the West Coast guys Nico and Rashada. Ole fashion recruiting still is at play, just less than it used to be for some, a lot less than for others.

If you want to rewind the clock and say we should have kept CV alongside Moore on the front burner, ok, fine. But we didn’t.

And at this point CV does not appear to be clamoring to commit. And by all accounts we remain in the drivers seat for Moore, despite everyone pissing themselves over a potential OV to A&M or wherever.

So “moving on” from maybe our best QB recruit in 15 years because he’s not ready to commit on our timetable seems like a great way to wind up with another three-star Captain Intangibles.

Chill. If Moore wants what we offer, it’ll be fine. If not the three-stars will still be there.

Does ND have any ultra rich Alums or huge ND fans? Seems like most southern schools have Alums that have oil tycoon type money

For the record, by all accounts, Tate is nowhere near a lock to OSU, and landing Moore would be a huge swing in ND's favor in landing Tate.

But yeah, it's way too early to hit the panic button Moore.

The thing that I hope these kids remember is that the generational money will be when they get to the NFL. Then again, 8M would make me consider all of my options too

Update from Trieu on 247 today recapping recent visits. Definitely had the most positive comments about ND IMO. Oregon he started by saying how tough it is to get there from Detroit with having to connect in Salt Lake City.

Expect a decision after officials, but left it open to drag on longer. 😑

Feel you there brother. Flying to OR is no easy task from MI or IN. Good luck getting a direct.
