Yes, after getting caught up, I’m still stuck on why ND couldn’t compete with NIL money. Someone help me understand please. In my head, the QB on a top ND team should be more marketable than any.
That’s the thing. People are getting too caught up in up-front money to recruits and not thinking about the long-game opportunities of a three-or-four year college career. An elite ND quarterback will have a lot more opportunities than whatever some A&M boosters can offer.

Book accepted a protein bar deal or some shit soon after the draft. No other 5th rounder was negotiating commercial deals.

But if you are choosing between guaranteed money now or potential money later if you happen to be an elite player, why risk it? Just take the money now, especially because if you are an elite player, then the money won't matter because you will make more in the NFL. So taking the guaranteed money now guards against injury or under-performance while still allowing the real big money to come later if the player makes the league.

Why not both?

It’s amazing at the type of money they are getting. When you are quoting NIL money, are you talking annually or for the full time they are at a school?

Some of these guys that end up very good and get drafted, but are not as great as their NIL payout, will take a pay cut when they go to the NFL.

ND is still the favorite here.

None of this is really surprising. His family has said for a while now he was still gonna take his OVs because he is going to be 100% committed when he does commit.

I understand the PTSD, but...

His comments about not guaranteeing to commit until fall (or even after) track with what I've been reading about him and his character. He doesn't want to make promises he's not 1000% about.

I still think we're good.

Perfect example (non-football) is Trayce Jackson-Davis at IU. He’s mid-second round draft grade that Bloomington can easily surpass in NIL $$$

FWIW — I don’t think people on the ND side of things have the same level of angst as ND fans, but I also think think that a lot of the concern over NIL is legitimate. The real issues will start to arise later in the cycle when teams with holes in their recruiting classes start throwing bags around because “oh shit we need a [blank]”. What happens when your commit comes to you and says “hey coach, I really like ND, but Texas A&M just offered me $X…”

If you’re not the hunter than you’re the hunted in this current landscape.

Bingo.

Next ESP & NSD are going to be WILD.

FWIW, look at what just happened with 5 star OT Josh Conerly.

It came down to USC and Oregon. Oregon has the bigger bag apparently. And landed his commitment after he was virtually all set in USC. This stuff is real folks. Maybe it doesn’t happen to Dante but they will certainly be trying. The fact that our 2023 QB hopes land on the shoulders of a young man, potentially, getting smack dab in the middle of this chaos is at least a little concerning. We’ll see if Dante checks out Eugene.

Not only that, but there is still a long time until ESD. Its only been like 6 months since this new "collective" era of NIL started and its still 8 months to signing day. Just think about ho much more can change; how much more these deals will be normalized. Every recruit that signs one of these deals will make it more likely the next kid will also ask for a deal.

This is only going to escalate. Every year will be free agency. Getting someone in year 1 won’t guarantee that they stay. They will take to the transfer portal to get more money, or hold out until the current team ups their offer.

If this doesn’t get fixed, it will destroy college football and basketball. The talent differential between the top Power 5 teams and everyone else will get even larger.

One way to possibly fix this will be to implement a reasonable team or school wide cap. That will at least spread out the talent.

I hear this idea come up but it doesn’t really seem possible. These deals the kids are getting are supposed to be outside of the school. It would be like the NFL capping how much money Aaron Rogers makes in endorsements.

The problem is with the schools themselves trying to get involved and cheat. Same issue that has been going on for decades in college football and basketball.

This is Notre Dame, not a MAC school. NIL will only be a problem if Notre Dame lets it become a problem. Notre Dame and their donors have more money than they know what to do with. Just look at the $800M stadium renovation; I don't think a dime came out of the University's pocket for that.

Ohio Elite 11 is this weekend and Dante will be there. Other relevant names to ND are CJ Carr and Ryan Montgomery. Loy will be there so we should get some footage of Dante. Here is Trieu’s preview.

I would rather Moore take his visits now, rather him commit and still take visits.

The bigger deal to me with this is the NIL $hit....kids will get their payday at the next level if they are good enough.

ON IF NOTRE DAME WILL GET AN OFFICIAL VISIT DUE TO PROXIMITY

2COMMENTS
"Official visit? Good question. I'm pretty sure I'll be taking an official down there. Like I said, I don't have anything planned yet. The two day visit was actually a great visit and all that. I'm probably going to take an official and all that, but I just gotta get everything planned out with my family."

"Actually, where I stayed at when I actually woke up in the morning, the best view I've probably seen was the Golden Dome in the morning. You have the sun beaming on it and it was just crazy. Seeing that outside of your window, it was probably one of the best feelings I've possibly had waking up in the morning. Like I said, I had a great time down there. Two days, you get a lot of information that you won't on a one day visit. I had a great time talking to the coaches and Logan Diggs, a guy I've always been texting and hollerin' at, he was down there. The next day I woke up, he was there and it was great to see him, we were both smilin' and we just talked about it for a long time."

Most in depth I’ve seen Moore go. This kid is all Irish and it will be a real shame if NIL doesn’t allow it to happen.

Quinn Ewers has already validated your first paragraph.

Remember this little NIL infant is still two months shy of its first birthday.

It will get far, FAR uglier before it gets better.

EJ from Michigan did an update after talking to Dante, and he says Dante isn’t sold on ND and is stretching his recruitment out. Will visit Michigan this weekend with both his parents.
