Freeman in the office:
That bit about the "congratulatory phone call" after the Clemson game perked up some spidey senses for sure.FWIW, Minchey must have been chatting with the staff the entire time and the recruiting sites had no clue.
Are we sure MF hasnt been speaking with Keely the whole time as well?
Personally I co-call my ex-girlfriends after I have sex with my wife..That bit about the "congratulatory phone call" after the Clemson game perked up some spidey senses for sure.
I mean, maybe Keeley left Notre Dame high and dry, cut off contact for months, and then just cold calls the Freeman the morning after his big win to say congrats. But that's a pretty, um, self-assured move for an 18-year-old. Unless they've been in touch all along while Keeley sorts some things out.

Loy quoted a source as saying Keely is still very unlikely and expects it to be Alabama.
on the 247 class calculator if you add KK, Kenny Minchey and Kahlil Barnes ND would be at 297.72...good enough for #2 (Bama currently at 310.01).Probably pretty close to a #1 class. Would be the best class at ND in the post-Holtz era probably.
If KK was a WR then yes...otherwise not seeing the logic here.I wonder...if Freeman secures his QB in Minchey...is that enough of a story line to retry closing Keon??

umm i guess. but i dont recall any part of his decommitment related to lack of QB.Not saying we have a good shot if Minchey joins but the biggest thing that has been holding us back from being a championship contender is quality QB. KK is the type of recruit that wants to win a championship so there is logic there.

Agreed. Pretty big stretch. "Hey, we still don't have a large bag of cash and we haven't won a natty since '88, but we just signed a fringe top 247 QB. How's it going nowadays?"umm i guess. but i dont recall any part of his decommitment related to lack of QB.
It was lack of funds.
People need to move the fuck on.
Maybe not unique but maybe the new normal. It is interesting that Keon has been uncommitted for so long. I would think almost all decommitments are quickly followed by a commtiment. But this recruiting cycle is unique.

Same reason Bama commit Richard Young has been all over KK, sure he's not a WR but wants to win. I'm sure KK doesn't want to bust his ass all game and only see his team score 10 points...If he does feel like that, than he will probably end up at Iowa.If KK was a WR then yes...otherwise not seeing the logic here.

You are obviously a great recruiter. Thanks for clarifying.Agreed. Pretty big stretch. "Hey, we still don't have a large bag of cash and we haven't won a natty since '88, but we just signed a fringe top 247 QB. How's it going nowadays?"
We have the cash. We just can't give it to him in exchange for his signature. He has to get on campus first, do a photo shoot with a worthy cause in South Bend, and then he gets the bag.Agreed. Then it would depend on how big the bag is on a risk-adjusted basis. I can't wait to hear about all the NIL deals and gossip someday. The next few seasons could be very interesting. We have the cash. Can this be in writing? If so, I don't see the big deal unless kids need the money yesterday vs. day 1 on campus. We have the cash. We just can't give it to him in exchange for his signature. He has to get on campus first, do a photo shoot with a worthy cause in South Bend, and then he gets the bag.
I think some kids, or their uncles, want the money in hand, yesterday. And so they prioritize the school that will provide that. I understand why, but personally I think that's a mistake. Can this be in writing? If so, I don't see the big deal unless kids need the money yesterday vs. day 1 on campus.

Especially given the family background,… idk what’s KK’s is at all but many have the mindset that 50 bucks today is better than 200 bucks by next week. Which is exactly why they need the 50 so badly.I think some kids, or their uncles, want the money in hand, yesterday. And so they prioritize the school that will provide that. That's not really rare, and is actually basically the default. Its called the scarcity mindset. There is some interesting research on it and its effects.Especially given the family background,… idk what’s KK’s is at all but many have the mindset that 50 bucks today is better than 200 bucks by next week. Almost every business in the world takes money in hand yesterday over tomorrow. It's good business. Money today is worth much, much, much more than money tomorrow? or some later date and that's not even taking inflation into account.I think some kids, or their uncles, want the money in hand, yesterday. Yes, I cover that and poverty mindsets every now and then at work. I can see some extended family making this whole NiL situation really complex for some kids,…That's not really rare, and is actually basically the default. Its called the scarcity mindset. Inflation is only a problem in America, as I understand it. I am assuming the parts it isn't touching include the SEC, USC and Texas.Almost every business in the world takes money in hand yesterday over tomorrow. It's good business. Imagine how many frostys all that oil money gets a kid tho,…. Playing big boy games in Dallas… at SMU, NIL means getting a coupon for a 99 cent Frosty at Wendy's.
