I’ve learned to not put anything past this staff, when it comes to roster improvement/management. There isn’t any “settling”, which I think we saw a lot of that in the last regime.

Example, did ND absolutely need Devyn Ford after Diggs left? Probably not, they still had four good RBs. This staff doesn’t leave a stone unturned. Are they guaranteed to get a WR? No, but I definitely think they’ll be shopping.
Using Devyn Food as an example is moving the goal post. Running back is stacked...understood. But he's 4th on the depth chart (3rd? 5th?).

I understand bringing in a WR who can improve the talent pool .... I'm all in. But having that WR being "a no brainer starter" over the incumbents is where I'm having trouble. Could they bring in #4 from OSU/USC/OR who saw limited action and he be number 1 or 2? Sure, but I think that's not "no brainer starter"

I think we are closer to agreeing than not.

I don’t think it’s outside the realm of possibilities that ND can get a middling P5 team’s #1. Weren’t they close to getting Josh Downs to transfer over in 2022? I’m just not going to doubt this staff.

Flores, Greathouse, and Faison make up a fantastic young receiver group. Excited to see what Braylon James and KK Smith and bring to the table.
One concern is all 3 are best really in the slot. Yes Rico did very well against wake, but wake was in Zone and soft man. We will not face that against good teams, and he's struggled vs press man.

Dude was wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide open on the long TD to Greathouse. Hartman could've thrown it after three steps and had a walk-in TD to Faison. I was in the stadium, so didn't catch if it was a bust or if he burned his man, but Faison had four steps on the closest guy. Hartman was locked in on hitting Greathouse on the deep crosser though... which also worked out.

Flores has plenty of room for growth and improvement, but his freshman start is probably the best since Kevin Stepherson? It’s fair to assume he’ll enter 2024 as a more polished player.

Rico long fourth down crosser was a busted play by Wake, they doubled the flat and no one took Rico

Greathouse Long Td he was in the slot and just ran a deep crosser between LBs and Safeties, wake was in zone

Faison Td was just a person winning 1-1 in man

Agree, just want to see our WRs put in a better spot to succeed with their talents.

Flores was open via a bust, but the bust happened because of previous play calls IIRC. I believe two chased after the RB in free release, which Ford scored on earlier. It's also a play ND has run dozens of times this year. Wasn't super creative, but a solid play that gives Sam options and obviously Wake was fooled.

I think Flores is best suited for the Z receiver spot moving forward. Faison could also play there with his speed, but he's likely better suited for slot. I think Faison will swing between Z and Slot.

What ND really needs is an X. Hope was that would be Merriweather, but he's a ways away from being the legitimate #1 perimeter threat.

I gotta say watching Merriweather run like a freaking impala does give me hope for him. ND hasn't had a guy with effortless strides like him in a long time.

Jordan Faison has me losing no sleep over whatever decision Chris Tyree makes about whether to stay or go.
He is the slot receiver that was promised.

Sam locks onto the slot way too often.
It's no mystery why Greathouse's number lacked since coming back from injury: they played him outside.

Sorry Hartman didn’t Putup in 2023.
Exactly why I said pre season it was more important for Hartman to be finalist for heisman than estime doak walker

Hartman didn’t have season I expected but he’s on pace to probably have best qb season at nd since clausen 2009
