Very likely would have had less touches this year with both Estime & the other backs creeping in for a few carries.

Regardless, good luck.

I don’t think it has anything to do with being the primary back. Logically, it doesn’t make sense to go somewhere and carry the ball 25+ a game the year prior to entering the Draft. Also, he wouldn’t be looking at Ole Miss and LSU if that was the case. That’s just one of his excuses.

I think it was more likely a poor “cultural fit” for Diggs. He probably just didn’t click with the university and town, and probably wants to be somewhere much closer to home.

I would have toughed it out for my last season, but to each his own.

I would conclude that this is a good sign for those other names in that RB room that they have pushed out Logan Diggs. Losing him sucks and the depth would be nice but I see this as a good sign.
HUH???? He was starting -

Interesting that he wasn’t highly rated out of HS and didn’t have that LSU offer.

Louisiana is its own world. At this point I hope Jaden Ausberry is happy at ND.

Diggs absolutely wasn't pushed out. He was the guy they trusted the most at the end of games. Despite coming back from an injury and getting limited reps early on he ended up with the most carries for the season. He actually had the most receiving yards among the backs too, despite Tyree getting more than twice the catches. He was a workhorse, but when they got down to the goal line they switched in Estime like the Bus to punch it in.

I think the problem is that at ND, he wasn't going to see as many carries as last year. It wasn't going to be a 1a/1b situation with him and Estime. I wouldn't say Payne or Price "pushed him out", but it's very evident that Payne had a huge spring and was earning a bigger role, as well as getting Price back and adding Love to the mix. There is simply not going to be enough reps for Diggs to keep him in that same role.

At LSU, Diggs has the chance to be the primary back, because their lead rusher last year was QB Jayden Daniels and the back with the highest yard output was Josh Williams, a former walk-on, with just over 500.

Even at Ole Miss, Judkins is the #1 back, but their #2 back Zach Evans got a lot of carries too, and he's gone. Diggs has a shot to be part of a good 1/2 punch with Judkins.

I do think Diggs wanted to go somewhere else, but I don't think he is leaving if he has a real shot at some major carries. Seeing his role being mitigated gave him justification to move on.

It really doesn't matter where he goes or if he's the featured back. If he has the talent, the NFL will find him and he'll be given a shot.

Folks can argue the on-field "loss" here all they want, but I'll add this - having someone with one foot CONSTANTLY out the door can't be great for the locker room, so I'll count this as a net positive all things considered.

Full disclosure: I was never a huge fan and also don't believe his skill set isn't easily replaceable.

Why was Diggs captain potential again?
He always (appeared to be) a high-character, high-energy guy. The way he picked up Estime during his struggles last year. Etc. Also I don't think they bring you on one of those trips to Ireland or some such if they don't think you're Face Of The Program type material.

Unless they are trying to convince you to stay of course!

debatable. He was certainly a large part of the offense. I think I would still have Audric the #1 back designation based on avg and scoring production.

Audric Estime RBTouchesYDSTD

Logan Diggs RBTouchesYDSTD

Estime was a better RB but couldn't protect the ball. If that's settled, no doubt imo

Diggs wanted to leave ND from the day he signed his LOI. The only person really keeping him around was Tommy Rees as they had a really strong relationship, and with Tommy gone, there's only so many times a guy can be talked into staying.. Sometimes things just aren't meant to be. Don't think there really needs to be some deep analysis on why he left and who he ends up going to.

he had more carries but estime was and is the dude imo

I agree.

Diggs had more carries than Estime in UNLV (28 to 3 carries here), BC (15 v 11), Navy (13 v 8), USC (12 v 6), BYU (17 v 14), and Stanford (9 vs 8). In these games where Diggs had more carries, Estime had more rushing yards in USC, Navy, BYU and had the same amount vs Stanford.

The other games they were either tied or Estime had more carries.

So USC was the only good team that ND played where he had more carries than Estime. Not to say that ND didn’t struggle against some of the weaker teams.

I think it’s overstating it for anyone to say he was ND’s number one back. If anything, they were 1a and 1b with Estime being the more productive runner and Diggs the more productive receiver.

It’s certainly a loss that Diggs is leaving, but I won’t be too upset about it since Estime has shown he’s more than capable.

Are you serious??
If you are comparing them to Alabama sure, but ND has put a hell of a lot of RB's in the league, a shit ton more than Ole Miss has. Its been 10 backs over 20 years thats 1 back in the NFL every 2 years. I'm not saying they are RBU by any means but that is better than the overwhelming majority of schools. That is actually the down period for ND backs in the NFL. That list doesn't include Ricky Waters, Jerome Bettis, Tony Brooks, Reggie Brooks or any of the backs from the Holtz era.

Julius Jones
Ryan Grant
Darius Walker
Armando Allen
Theo Riddick
Cierre Wood
C. J. Prosise
Dexter Williams
Josh Adams
Kyren Williams

Darius Walker--Old
Armando Allen--Old
Theo Riddick---Best back they've put in the NFL in over a decade 1037 career NFL rush yards.
Cierre Wood--12 career rush yards

I'll add a few more Hughes 16 NFL yards, Jones Jr 179 NFL yards. I do believe that's all going to change with MF looking at the way he's recruiting the position. But to act like any RB is crazy to leave ND for an SEC team is just a super fan.
