Exactly right I think Diggs is banking on going to LSU being the guy getting over 1,000-1200 all purpose yards and then entering the draft. He will be a 3rd-4th round pick.

I don't see Diggs going that early, he's going to run a poor 40 I think.

Estime could get hurt. Relying on Price to be what he looked like pre-injury feels hopeful at best. Payne looked good this spring but who knows really. Love isn’t even on campus yet.
Yes the RB room is deep and we have some good fallbacks - better we lose an RB than a Safety - but losing Diggs is not “not a bad thing.” It’s clearly a loss.

Yep agree. Tyree helps. Either way, we need to hit the portal for a WR, Safety, NT. Landing a good WR would allow tyree to move to RB if something happens to estime.

With that said, Estime, payne, love, price is better that what most power 5 teams would have. I honestly thought we would lose payne. Payne vs diggs, I may like payne better and ok with that trade.

So with a better O line and against worst competition, he doesnt do anything but now you say he is going to a school with a worse O line and better competition week in, week out and he will double the production? Not seeing your logic here.

With limited access to practices and mashed up teams for the spring game, it seems some guys saw things we aren’t in the know about. Scheme changes, fits, and younger talent pushing guys out of spots. Diggs saw Price before injury and Payne this spring. Perhaps he saw his role changing moving forward. I enjoyed watching him and wish him luck in the future.

If Payne steps up big while we wait for Price to get back to 100% and Love comes in and is ready to contribute like most assume he will, ND RB room is going to be just fine. The problem will be if Estime gets hurt or has fumbleitis, Payne doesn't step up, Price never gets fully healthy and back to his pre-injury form, and Love plays like a true Frosh.....that's not ideal. Of course, you don't expect all of those things to happen, but throw in the inevitable injury and what everyone thought of as being one of the best RB rooms in the country, suddenly it's an issue.

TLDR; I never like losing talented players at any position who have been solid contributors in the past and would've been solid contributors moving forward. Depth guys are one thing, not starters (even if it's 1B). ND's offense could be the most potent we've seen since '15. I don't want to see talent head elsewhere.

I don’t think we need to do what we’re doing and conflate this into anything other than what it is:

Diggs wanted to be a feature back. Diggs wasn’t going to be that here. If he was going to be butthurt all season, it’s probably good for the locker room culture that he decided to move on.

Somebody else said it, but this type of attrition happens on deep rosters. Probably a good sign for the health of our RB room.

That's where I'm at. Uyeyama had a good take in his reaction article and the last quote is best. Teams are better with volunteers than they are with hostages.

Diggs has been waiting on the LSU offer since he was in high school. He was a transfer risk since the minute he stepped foot on campus.

Obviously it would be better for Diggs to stay. But he has had one foot out the door since he got to South Bend. If he was the feature back then he probably stays this year and then goes pro, but he's not. His head coach and OC both left since he arrived. So he will go somewhere that feels like a better fit for him. It is not an indictment on the staff at all.

This happens everywhere. If we start seeing starters bounce for NIL money or something I would be more concerned. This is just college football nowadays.

I think it's as simple as this. Diggs saw a situation at RB where he was going to have a diminished role. It was inevitable. Last year, he and Estime were the 1a/1b backs. He had the most carries of any back. That wasn't going to happen this year.

Estime is going to be the feature back and Payne played his way into an increased role during the spring. People really need to not underestimate his ability. I also think Price is further ahead to returning than some are willing to admit.

Eh, most of the people were always higher on him around here than I was. I never said anything because he was one of ours, but I thought he was just OK. I take this transfer as a bit of a shrug. Honestly, losing Tyler hurts more for me. I think there is a bigger dropoff from #1 to #3 in the QB room than the RB room. Diggs was just OK in my eyes. He would have been fine for us, but IMO, replaceable. Now it does free up some more carries for the more explosive players.

Guess what happened when happened when Estime fumbled the ball we didn't see him for a few plays. Then the gave those reps to Diggs. Why? Because they trusted him.

I think freaking Estime is the best back we have had in some time but you have to have 2 good running backs in college football and we did.

Price and Payne might be able to do that, or they might not.

Yep, why wouldn’t ND have Tyree lined up in the backfield on occasion just to keep the defense honest……if they cheat then Hartman could flip him the ball or use him as a check down or in the flat target.

I would conclude that this is a good sign for those other names in that RB room that they have pushed out Logan Diggs. Losing him sucks and the depth would be nice but I see this as a good sign.

I don’t know that Diggs is better than Estime but he wasn’t pushed out by the younger backs. He was RB1A and potential captain material. Wasn’t gonna be passed up or losing carries, he left for his own reasons.
