Wishing these players luck is stupid. NIL has destroyed players loyalty to a college. Let the shit show really begin. I will never follow recruiting.
I would argue that it's not as much NIL as it is the transfer portal/instant transfer policy in place now. I'm sure NIL contributes to it somewhat, but getting butthurt about losing playing time and bouncing to go somewhere else and playing more immediately is the real culprit

Eh, most of the people were always higher on him around here than I was. I never said anything because he was one of ours, but I thought he was just OK. I take this transfer as a bit of a shrug. Honestly, losing Tyler hurts more for me. I think there is a bigger dropoff from #1 to #3 in the QB room than the RB room. Diggs was just OK in my eyes. He would have been fine for us, but IMO, replaceable. Now it does free up some more carries for the more explosive players.

Do we go to the portal? Maybe find some graduate RB on his last year of eligibility that can split some carries as the #2a/b RB?

Estime is a dude but if he get's hurt, I dont have that much confidence in what is behind him on the depth chart. Payne flashed but has injury history, Price is coming off a major injury, and Love is talented, but unproven - is he physically ready to play a large role if needed?

He and Kollie are the ones that hurt in my opinion. I really thought Diggs broke out last year and looked equally as impressive as Estime.

They should at least implement that you miss 4 games or some such thing.

If we go to the portal it should be for a safety, a WR, and a DT.

If every other team is losing talent the same as the caliber ND is losing to the portal then heck yeah have a look.

This will probally be Audrics last year so you almost gotta take 2 RB’s in 2024.

Still don’t understand this. I get NIL. Dude just killed his legacy at Notre Dame. That is important if you’re a running back. Running backs are a dime a dozen in the NFL. Their careers are short too. He’s missing out on a Notre dame degree and a chance to be involved in the program/network/community in the future. He’s always seemed like a head case, but it’s a shame he isn’t getting better advice.

As a LSU guy, I hate the Rummel Raiders as much as I hate Alabama or Ole Miss, but this is our weakest running back room in decades. Diggs can immediately come in and be a serviceable back and add much needed depth. It would basically be him and John Emery splitting reps.

As a ND fan as well, I hate it, and, unless he just really, really wanted to get out of South Bend, I’m not too sure I understand why he’s making this move. Sure, Diggs and Estime are a one-two punch, but they pretty much have gotten the same amount of reps. You’re running behind an elite offensive line, and I’d argue that by bringing Hartman in and throwing the ball more will also only make the backs look that much better. Defenses aren’t going to be stacking the box and are now being forced to defend the entire field.

I think this is best for all parties involved. Diggs didn't want to be here if he wasn't getting the majority of snaps and that wasn't going to happen in the fall. Estime is flat out better. JD Price was better last year and we'll see what he has.

One of the most impressive performances of the BG game was G. Payne. I really thought he looked fast and fought for the hard yards. I think he's going to be a better Diggs for us (if he can stay healthy). Love is the X-factor, may need a year of seasoning, may be ready to put in the work this summer.

We still have 4 options for what is largely 2 spots and a few extra carries doled out. Good luck to Diggs, I'm rooting for his future team and coach to fail spectacularly.

I don’t think we need to do what we’re doing and conflate this into anything other than what it is:

Diggs wanted to be a feature back. Diggs wasn’t going to be that here. If he was going to be butthurt all season, it’s probably good for the locker room culture that he decided to move on.

Somebody else said it, but this type of attrition happens on deep rosters. Probably a good sign for the health of our RB room.

I don't see Diggs leaving as a bad thing, I honestly don't think we will run as much this year especially with Hartman at QB. I think Audric will get the bulk of the load. But between Audric, Tyree, and Diggs we ran the ball 32 times per game. Audric averaged 12 carries per game. We were almost a 60/40 Run vs throw team last year I think you'll see us switch to a 60/40 pass/ run. Against USC Audric only got 6 carries and averaged 7.2 yards per carry, Diggs got 12 carries and averaged 2.8. At time I was questioning why we didn't use Audric more last year in key moments. I think Audric will get around 18 carries per game, Payne will be at 6-8, Price will be around 8-10 and then Love will get the remainder. I think Love will eventually work into getting more carries but I think the staff will use him a lot as a WR/RB flex

Exactly right I think Diggs is banking on going to LSU being the guy getting over 1,000-1200 all purpose yards and then entering the draft. He will be a 3rd-4th round pick.

How stupid a take. Losing an experienced back - the #2 Back as determined by our staff…. Is not good for ND. Estime can easily get hurt. Really mind boggling that homers think this is okay. Lol

Incredibly bad and flawed rationalization . The staff’s #2 back leaves and it’s “not a bad thing” - that is some funny shit.

Tell that to NIL and the opportunity to be a feature back while improving your draft stock. We're living in a new period of college football.
That's fine, but you don't get to consider yourself a leader at that point. Go get chase the bag, but don't pretend that you're out for anyone but yourself.

It's not a bad thing at all. A. Audric should have been getting more carries, B we won't be running as much this year, C Jadarian Price was better than Diggs in the Spring before his injury.
Estime could get hurt. Relying on Price to be what he looked like pre-injury feels hopeful at best. Payne looked good this spring but who knows really. Love isn’t even on campus yet.
Yes the RB room is deep and we have some good fallbacks - better we lose an RB than a Safety - but losing Diggs is not “not a bad thing.” It’s clearly a loss.
