No one is disputing his game film from last year. It is his current film from yesterday that is concerning
Camp film w/ no contact, no real reads trumps real game film?

Wait. What? 1st frosh to win as a junior? lol
C'mon now, his stats for the season are absolutely insane. He is the first Freshman to win the San Diego Silver pigskin trophy (best player in San Diego) as a Junior since Reggie Bush in 2001.
here's some throwing film...don't remember everyone shitting on this

Def not. but I would also argue that HS game film is useless too. Remember when we all fell in love with Wimbush's game film? Just never know who or what is going to translate...
Please don't make me find the film of him hitting sitting receivers.
On a serious note, some of you have wayyyy too much Wimbush/Phil anxiety/ptsd. There is plenty of real film on Tyler. And, we'll see even more data this fall with his new school.
I've watched all available film of yesterday and while I would agree it wasn't his best day it's far from concerning. If that is concerning to you and others, then I'd argue you are looking for things to be concerned about.
My overanalyzed thoughts are two fold. I think he is trying to shorten his throwing motion which is causing some of that 'lost' zip. Seems like he is consciously trying to limit his loading process. This is comparing the video from yesterday to his other throwing sessions I've watched. And, I don't think he was utilizing his lower body enough.
A QB's throwing motion is like a golf swing. How many times have you tried to take your game to another level by tweaking your swing. Then to get out on the course and have it blow up. You are now worse than you were before..but not really. All you have to do is get back to the basics and work back up.
When a QB or pitcher is "getting it done" with a style that is a little quirky, leave them alone.
Thank you.
First camp (I'm assuming) since the pandemic. There's the rust factor. Competing against the nation's best, I would have some butterflies if I were in his shoes too.
If the negative performances continue maybe there's cause for concern, but a knee jerk reaction fresh out of a 3+ month shutdown is a bit much.
If he is another PJ/Wimbush at least he should get an opportunity early unlike PJ who started off behind a really good established QB. Just get him in early.
That said, didn't Drew Pyne do really well at this event last year finishing 5 or 6th?

Fixed.
almost like you had half a year to post that criticism...yet waited until now. foh

Don't get it twisted im not arguing that he isn't a great QB. All I said is that his throwing motion concerns me and is way more noticeable when everything is slowed down. Typically guys look more fluid and polished in a camp setting not the other way around.
I essentially haven't posted in like any recruiting threads in half a year. What's your point? Do you like his mechanics or do stats trump everything?
Haven't watched film from today get but happy to see the results were better.

For every Trevor Lawrence who wins the Elite 11, there is a Blake Barnett.
When I read stuff with people questioning "velocity" and "arm strength" I had to go watch the clips because I didn't understand how that was possible. After watching them, I get it, but it raised completely different questions. No clue why he wasn't just ripping it and instead "pushing" the ball like he was trying to guide it somewhere. Was he coached to do that?
Remember that ND coaches watched both him and JJ throw, and by all accounts it wasn't close with who was the superior arm talent. I get the consternation -- because it's an ND QB and people are going to dissect everything -- but IMO the only thing to give a shit about here is optics. It'd be awesome for him to do well and get the deserved national recognition. But I'd caution against putting too much weight in how someone does in this kind of setting because there are many examples of people showing out at Elite 11 and being garbage fires on the actual field... and there are many examples of people not grading out well in this event but winning a LOT of football games.
