I will never understand these 5 star QBs with amazing stats attempting to change/tweak their throwing motions.

You know what will maybe get a 5 star drafted a few spots lower after a productive college career? A long motion.

You know what will stop a 5 star from having a productive college career? F*cking with the motion that got them the 5th star.

Agree with this. Feels like the QB coaches need to justify the price they're charging.

Reminds me of when I was 11 and my parents got me some golf lessons (I never really liked golf, but our family friend was also doing it so me and that kid took the lessons together). Farthest and straightest I hit the ball was in the driving range waiting for the instructor to show up on the first day. Allll downhill from there lol

I blame George Whitfield Jr - most successful QB "coach" (con artist) i've ever seen. Created this sad era.

Wait until the whole story comes out about switching QB coaches, who the new guy is, what he's done in the past and what connection he has (if any) to the staff.

https://www.ndinsider.com/recruitin...cle_e88b0991-dc9d-5536-a14b-1bb02cb12306.html

Let's see. The new guy is Taylor Kelly. He works at 3DQB which is the facility that Tom House works at. Kelly is also the QB coach at Mater Dei. Kelly was the QB at Arizona St for 3 years when Chip Long was there and was a GA for Long's last year. It looks like he worked with Wimbush in 2018 (maybe at Long's suggestion?) and Tom House worked with Kizer.

It seems like Buchner switched from Danny Hernandez, who trained a couple college QBs, but more importantly, trained Bryce Young. What's interesting is that Buchner went from Bryce Young's personal QB coach to Bryce Young's high school QB coach.

I don't know any insider info on why he made the switch, but that is just the background info.

Can't see any positives from that video. Footwork was poor and lazy which doesn't get you in a position to make the throws. Throws were tentative and short armed. He looks scared and very unsure of what he was doing. Not sure what he is working on with his coaches, but he looks like his mind is not behind it. Now I know what I look like after a golf lesson.

If you guys really want to see the change, watch the film Loy got from a Buchner workout last year and then compare it to the film now.

Is he really 6'2"? He looked small in the video too? Not saying he has to be Trevor Lawrence size, but aesthetics do help when watching film.

He already is a 4 star, so if he drops it will be to 3 stars.

I look at 247 and they have him currently as a 5*.

Buchner is also switching high schools for his senior year, which is tougher competition so to add to his Irish envy misery over petty $hit do we miss Phil Jurkovec yet?

It's very easy to see, especially with the beginning footage of his warm up. You can see him rotate his shoulder back and fully load his arm (even pause). And, I don't think that is elongated or anything that needed to be changed. In fact, it looks pretty darn perfect to me.

It's weird because his composite ranking is a 5*, but all the individual sites have him as a 4 (24/7, Rivals, ESPN).

I don't care anymore about the star system in recruiting, I made the comment because of all the negative Nancy's.

I just picked up my College Football Lindy's Sports magazine and they list him the #30 in their top 100 for 2021.

I watched some of the video that Tom Loy posted and people were ripping him.

ND is fine with Buchner.

He didn't seem abnormally smaller than any of the other QBs at the elite 11. Maybe its just because he is always crouched, even on his follow through.

If they are the best QB on the squad then let them play

I agree. I've been pretty happy with Book all things considered, and never on Phil train. Don't get me wrong, I really wanted Phil to work out and emerge, I just wasn't ever anti-Book.

Tyler is better than McCarthy. McCarthy just stays in the pocket.
The only reason I don't think Tyler will start in his first year is that if Pyne is the starter for game 1 I think he will be a Book like revelation.

I will be furious if Kelly allows that to happen.

FYI, made the top 11 per Elite 11 own ranking.

I know a ton of know-it-alls on Twitter are stating "the awards were rigged" because it put "too much weight on film" (50%).

This right here tells you everything you need to know. Even the event holders themselves know that the competition is at least partially silly at "grading" a QB.

They likely saw how inconsistent their top 11 have been in college and realized they needed to change their grading algorithm and determined that they need to expand their grading to more that how well you can throw at unknown wr/targets with your helmet and pads off...

Competitions are a silly way of "grading'. If you train for these things, exclusively, you can make yourself look better than what your film shows. Or you can focus on actually "playing" football.''

TLDR:
Carlos Del Rio (by several beat writers) was the top competition performer.
Elite 11 didn't even put him the top 11.
That tells you everything you need to know about how they view this competition.

I'd like to add that I think they put more weight on film this year because the coronavirus meant they couldn't have all the events they normally do. I remember watching the previous years and they had actual 7v7 competitions (at the opening I think), so it was a better indicator of actual game skill. I don't think I saw any reps against any type of real defense during this year. Also I'm pretty sure normally they have more time with the QBs, but again because of everything going on, there weren't the events that normally take up that space. And all of that is to say nothing of the fact that some of these guys may not have been able to train like they normally would.

So overall I don't think it was a bad idea for them to put more weight on film this year. And really with how Buchner performed this week, it really goes to show how much they must have liked his film, even if it was against lesser competition.

And I'll add back:
I did not watch others in the "target practice" round, but it was clear that Tyler was confused as to how it worked. Several times he'd make a step one way or another and get called back (or forward).

The event seemed extremely unorganized this year (understandably). In hindsight, they should have just cancelled and said that they were forced to do it on scouting reviews.

That was happening with all the QBs. The ball had to go through the target and there were a lot of times it looked like it did (or was going to), but they said it didn't so they player had to go back.
