It was a 3 day event and it wasn't a good look

no shit, but even all reports indicated it was due to this new funky 3/4 slingshot throwing motion and wasn't what they had seen from him in previous camps or on film...

BTW, apparently 247sports didn't even make it to the Elite 11.

If High school football doesnt happen they should work something out so that smart kids who can early enroll can start at their college even earlier. Get Buck to ND this year.

I could see something this happening. I wouldn't want it to count as a year of eligibility though.

I believe the point of him transferring HS (other than increase competition) was so he could have the proper classes to EE.

So, are you proposing he enrolls at ND earlier than January?

That would be, looks at notes, next month.

Bright side: now we won’t be able to say our four/five star savior was beaten out by a three star,...

Haha. Yep. Or maybe enroll him in a South Bend High school, so he can train with the lads through the "season"...Admittedly I don't know how this works.

We got pumped at Phil J with his stats and ratings. I saw him throw in warm-ups live and thought that Philip wouldn't start at IU. Hope TBuch turns out better but that's discouraging.

it does from a national recruiting perspective, 5* want to play with other 5* and when you look at recruiting rankings it entices others to join the class
No 5*s were coming here anyway...

Tony Grimes is a 5* 2021 CB who just reclassified to 2020 so he could get to school earlier and avoid being stuck in HS without a football season.

I think it was the SBTribune that had the article on Buchner and the transfer and it wasn't just so he could EE, but so he could take one semester AP classes so he could get more credit before starting college. If he wanted to, he would probably be able to be NCAA qualified to reclassify.

The real question is if he would want to. He would be using a year of eligibility where he knows he won't start all so he could get practice that might not actually be available to him if the season is canceled. I guess he could gray shirt, but I don't know if our administration would allow that and what kind of access he would have to the team if he were to do that.

Leave HS because of no football for college with no football?

justified in 1 outing vs EVERYTHING else he has done? including other camps? certainly hope my work performance isn't justified by 1 day vs my 14 years of working at the same gov entity.....a couple of spots, ok.....49 is absurd

I mean I understand your point... But at the biggest camp day and environment for a QB he didn't show out. Personally I could care less. I've always thought camps are overrated

Switched coaches I guess.

Should probably go back to his former coach.

IMO any coach that tries to change the delivery of an 17-18 year old kid is wasting their time and shows how little they actually know about the position

Essentially your HS career is over, go to college and even if you don't play you are 1 year in the system and ready for next.

I get it, but in all the time he was highly ranked it's not like a flock of 5 stars signed up. I think I'd prefer a rising 3 or 4 star to a "peaked" 5 star. Glad we got him, whatever star is tagged on him.

Got to feel bad for the high school kids that were dependent on a big senior year to get any kind of offers.

You’ll feel even worse when the schools some of these kids are committed to, can’t afford programs.

Think about it like this.

2020
RS SR Ian Book
RS FR Brendon Clark
FR Drew Pyne
FR Tyler Buchner

2021
RS SO Brendon Clark
RS FR Drew Pyne
RS FR Tyler Buchner

2022
RS JR Brendon Clark
RS SO Drew Pyne
RS SO Tyler Buchner

Or

2021
RS SO Brendon Clark
RS FR Drew Pyne
FR Tyler Buchner

2022
RS JR Brendon Clark
RS SO Drew Pyne
SO Tyler Buchner

IMO I think if you’re Buchner it is all about if you care about starting in 2021 or not. To me, I’d enroll now cause Buchner could be in his second year for that QB competition. If he comes in 2021 then it is extremely likely that he’ll be a backup and then he has to spend the next 2-3 years trying to unseat an incumbent starter which I’ve thought as harder.

I think Fisher and Rocco should try to get into 2020 as well. Schools should be flexible with the current circumstances. High schools are not going to have football at all so how will they train?

ISD mentioned that this just isn't something that kids heading to ND have a chance to do. Skipping 2 semesters of classes and still qualifying would be near impossible.

What about if ND just relaxed some requirements this season as a one off. I am not just talking for footballers but others who have earned scholarships in other sports that might be disadvantaged as well. Only a handful of kids would take the option up as most would want to complete their final year at school. But footballers and other sportspeople stand to lose ground in their sporting careers.

This is Kelly playing 3D chess behind the scenes. Turn the five star into a three star thus ensuring he becomes the starter!

His answer probably means he is going to have throwing issues throughout. I predict a Wimbush type career. Great running, win a lot of games, frustrating throwing.

What about his answer makes you think that?

He essentially said he was out of practice and had become "lazy". He wasn't using his lower body like he should and the result was his odd throwing motion in an attempt to make up for the lost power that would have come from using his lower body.

Looking back on it, he sees this now, and he has been able to get back into the swing of things.

Let the kid play his senior year and get to ND before getting down on him why don't you? He still made the Elite 11.

Listen. I think this young cat is going to be a stud, but why the hell wasn't he workin'? You're going to the Elite11, a national competition with the country's best QB's. Why weren't you working your ass off prior?
