How in the world is Mills a Captain over Cross?
Mills has underperformed each year at ND despite the physical gifts, while Cross is an All American and arguably the hardest worker on the team despite his physical limitations.
This must be what Sampson meant when he hinted that one of the grad students was promised a Captain spot if he came back.
Or Morrison over Cross.

I’d have probably had cross, no Morrison, no mills, then add Evans.

I’d have even been fine with no Leonard as it’s his first year here.

Sorry, I think it’s comical we fans think we have a better idea of who should be captain than the coaches and the players
I’m not saying I know better, just, from what I know, ha.

Also we have so little coverage of fall camp, what else do we talk about?? Haha

Remember there was buzz Thomas may transfer. Probably an immediate dq lol
My first thought when I looks at the projected offensive depth chart for the fall was that almost every starter on offence is either young or wasn't at ND last year. Thomas isn't projected to start at the moment, so it's hard to put a C on a backup. Mitchell was the only other realistic option.

If Pendleton really is going in at LG, that takes away both Coogan and Spindler.

IE Coaching:

Why don't the players just play better? Are they stupid?
Sign all the 5 stars and let them be 5 stars, no safety blitzes unless it works, more screen passes on blitzes and 50 point blowouts or we are running laps and pulling from the endless portal.

Anybody else think of Pacheco from the Chiefs when they watch Jeremiah Love run?

Figured I'd post this here instead of risk a scary bump in his thread.
I just went and watched a highlight video of Pacheco and I think this is an excellent comparison. Something in how they cut, hit stride, very similar gaits/movement patterns. Let's hope he produces like him!

😒 OK, Brett.

What’s interesting is he doesn’t have anyone we play making the playoffs either. Just a bunch of mid 8-4 teams beating up on each other. (But sure Iowa and Va Tech will make it at-large)
On top of that, Washington will be scrapping to even get bowl eligible after their mass exodus and new B1G slate.

You beat me to the punch in the bolded...what a joke. He's lost all credibility with these "projections."

I’m going to explain this & then be done with it.

First week of fall camp = a couple days no pads or contact, then working into football.
Second week (current week) = Moving players around & having competition, & look for backups at different positions (like Coogan taking snaps at Center to be backup to Craig).
Third week = the week you actually put your starters together & your 2 deep to let them work together for real. This is your real lineups.
Fourth week = not really fall camp anymore. It’s game week & you do normal game week prep.

The people lining up today doesn’t mean they are the starters. How they lineup next week is what really matter. (And we don’t get to see that).
There is a reason today is the last viewing day, because it’s the last day they have people moving all around. They purposely don’t have viewings after today.
Reaper, I believe you when you say you're are done with it. This isn't a reply to you.

For everyone else, since what we saw turned out to be the starting 5 (to include moving Coogan to backup C), can I throw this insider info about camp structure into the trash or can others validate any of it as how Freeman/Rudolph lines his guys up?

I absolutely LOVE that we are rolling with Knapp and Pendleton. The Aggie defensive front is super athletic. This gives us the best chance to match up with them. Kudos to the staff for having the guts to do what needed done.

I would be very excited with the scenario shown here:

ND going 11-1 and getting in as the five seed but they have a better record than the ACC Champ (Miami) - who will be the four seed.
Open at home vs Memphis the twelve seed.
Win and play Miami in the Peach Bowl.

Sign me up!

I think we are going to be pleased with how things generally shake out when we do well enough to sit at number 5. Means we will generally be playing a Group of 5 school at home, and then the weakest Power 4 champ for our first two round (so ACC or Big 12). SEC and Big 10 will have an opportunity to cannibalize/tire themselves out before we get to the final four.

Yes, I think ND makes out very well in the current structure. A top 5 ND gets the weakest overall seed (in South Bend) followed by the #4 conference champ. It may even be an advantage over a first round bye.

What's crazy to me is we are starting to really wrap our heads around how ideal this is, and even as these predictions come out and lay it out before our eyes, so many media pundits still just don't see the advantage Jack set us up with. They continue to use the lazy narrative "why would ND do this instead of joining a conference?! They're setting themselves up for a disadvantage!"

Even here in Detroit, it got a lot of attention this spring/summer from the mouth breathers on local radio.

Facts. Even Nick Saban said he thinks it’s an advantage for Notre Dame. He pointed out that Notre Dame actually does get a bye since they don’t have to play in a conference championship game, so they can rest that week and get ready for a home or road playoff game. Makes sense and you have to listen to the goat of college football coaching.
