How in the world is Mills a Captain over Cross?
Mills has underperformed each year at ND despite the physical gifts, while Cross is an All American and arguably the hardest worker on the team despite his physical limitations.
This must be what Sampson meant when he hinted that one of the grad students was promised a Captain spot if he came back.

A transfer, 1 year QB, and no other offensive Captains, and four defensive players, one is a true junior who wasn’t around all summer.
No Cross, who by all accounts, is the leader on defense.

I’m not digging the Captain selections.

Mills is good.
But he isn’t great, & should be elite.
With his physical gifts he should have been in the NFL last year.

Certainly not surprised by Leonard. Hartman was a captain last year. But Hartman gave the whole team a new set of Beats.

I don’t have a problem with Leonard if there was another offensive Captain who is a 4 year ND guy.
So Leonard & someone else like Evans or an OL.

In yesterday's presser, MF said the team would vote and he would select captains based on how the vote went. He said he didn't know how many captains there would be but that it would ultimately come down to "clumps" of votes. He said if the clump went to one or two people then that would mean there would be 1 or 2 captains but it could be as many as 5 or so.

Bottom line, the team voted and the 5 selected were the ones who got the most votes.

What season besides 2016 are you talking about? Last season there was no other option besides Hartman.

There has been two separate occasions in the past decade this destroyed ND’s lockerroom & ruined the season.

I’ve also seen it where coaches selected the captains and the players took it as coaches showing favoritism.

Although I do think Cross should be captain, Mills is a much better option over guys in the past. ND has had punters and walk-ons be captains...this is a solid group. Other than Evans, I'm not sure who else would even be an honorable mention on offense.

I don't know how many captains ND usually has, but if I had to add 1 more I would add Cross. Cross and Mills are going to be a 1-2 punch on the d-line this season and Cross deserves to be a captain.

He seems constantly under rated to me. Like I don’t fully get the Love buzz and think Price should be getting that.

This happened my senior year at Tech when our coach was kicked to the curb because he was scared of flying to the WS. (Whole different WTF story).

New coach comes in my senior year with a loaded roster and played favorites to who would milk his tit.

Didn’t matter at the end of the day. My roommate was still parked in the 4 hole, with me right behind in 5. And we raked.

The team knows who the leaders are at the end of the day

No he was completely speculating but putting it out there based solely on the fact that price hadn’t been featured in ND media.
Super shit take, not worth discussing as it never was an actual thing.

I read something (can’t remember if here or somewhere else) that he’s looked great in pass protection, because he’s athletic and has great feet. Struggles in run blocking though.

Basically this, doesn’t get great push run blocking but is really consistent staying in front of guys in pass protection.

Yeah I don't even know who on the offense you'd make a captain beyond Leonard. They're almost all either new or young (and the experienced OLs don't appear to be starters). Jayden Thomas maybe?

Remember there was buzz Thomas may transfer. Probably an immediate dq lol
