It's back!

College football has returned to grace us with the terrible, wonderful, sloppy, awe-inspiring, confusing, ridiculous, lovable mess that it is.

We had Week Zero last week, which was ugly but awesome: The U lost (great), Florida won but looked like a fraud (good), Hawaii's QB threw 4 TD's AND 4 INT's (amazing), and they had a DT sprint 40 yards to make a game-saving tackle at the 1 with zero time on the clock (borderline erotic).

Let's hope Week One provides a good balance of good football (Go Irish) and silliness (let's get the upset alert thread going early).

Without further ado...

THURSDAY, 8/29

UCLA @ Cincinnati - 7:00 PM - ESPN
- The Bearcats are coming off of an 11-win season (!), looking to usurp UCF as the 'Group of 5' darling
- UCLA looks to make a leap in year two under Chip Kelly... does the offense explode?
- Go Bearcats

#1 Clemson vs Georgia Tech - 8:00 PM - ACCN
- Defending champs open up ESPN's ACC Network
- GT no longer running the triple option... maybe they keep it close for a quarter based on lack of film?

#12 Texas A&M vs Texas State - 8:30 PM - SECN
- Texas State hired Troy's former OC, who might be an upcoming star
- Texas State also returns a bunch of experience (though from a team that wasn't good)... can they give the Aggies a scare?

#14 Utah @ BYU - 10:15 PM - ESPN
- HOLY WAR
- Night Cap
- Utah's stingy defense vs a BYU offense that should be pretty good... who breaks first?

FRIDAY, 8/30

#19 Wisconsin @ South Florida - 7:00 PM - ESPN
- Jonathan Taylor is freight train, so if you love RUN THE DAMN BALL, tune in
- USF's offense might be realllllllly good this year
- This should actually be a good game

#18 Michigan State vs Tulsa - 7:00 PM - FS1
- It's a game that's on

Purdue @ Nevada - 9:30 PM - CBSSN
- Rondale Moore
- Future Notre Dame Head Coach Candidate Watch (FNDHCCW)... Jeff Brohm, Purdue
- Rondale Moore

SATURDAY, 8/31

Ole Miss @ Memphis - 12:00 PM - ABC
- Upset Alert... everyone's talking about UC and UCF in the American, but Memphis is legit
- FNDHCCW... Mike Norvell, Memphis

#24 Nebraska vs South Alabama - 12:00 PM - ESPN
- Nebraska is a popular pick to explode in year two under Scott Frost
- Nebraska QB Adrian Martinez is the next big thing

#5 Ohio State vs Florida Atlantic - 12:00 PM - FOX
- Lane Kiffin vs a first-time head coach... I hope he's in maximum troll mode with his playcalling
- Let's see what Justin Fields can do

South Carolina vs North Carolina - 3:30 PM - ESPN
- 4th-year QB (SC) vs True Frosh QB (UNC)
- Return of the Mack [Brown]

#2 Alabama vs Duke - 3:30 PM - ABC
- Alabama begins a campaign to reassert themselves as THE dynasty in college football
- LOL poor Duke

#25 Stanford vs Northwestern - 4:00 PM - FOX
- Stanford has a really good QB, but unproven receivers... is Osiris St. Brown ready to be The Man?
- Northwestern's Hunter Johnson could flip the B1G West Upside Down by living up to his recruiting hype
- Upset Alert... Pat Fitzgerald special

Boise State vs Florida State - 7:00 PM - ESPN
- Another potential 'Group of 5' darling vs the Noles
- Can Willie Taggart survive year two?

#11 Oregon vs #16 Auburn - 7:30 PM - ABC
- Potential #1 draft pick Justin Hebert (Oregon) vs True Frosh Bo Nix (Auburn)
- Auburn's DL vs a good offense... do they overwhelm the Ducks, or is it a good chess match?

#20 Iowa vs Miami (OH) - 7:30 PM - FS1
- Can our old pal Chuck Martin and his Redhawks test the Hawkeyes?
- Former Michigan QB/TE Alex Malzone plays QB for Miami (OH), and has some weapons to throw to
- Iowa's Nate Stanley is a popular pick as a 'surprise' future NFL QB... he's good

Fresno State @ USC - 10:30 PM - ESPN
- Night Cap
- Scouting USC's new Air Raid offense
- Things could go downhill quickly for Clay Helton with a Fresno State upset

SUNDAY, 9/1

#4 Oklahoma vs Houston - 7:30 PM - ABC
- Jalen Hurts... the next Oklahoma Heisman winner?
- Houston's D'Eriq King is one of the most exciting QB's in football
- Should be a fun game; could see 150 total points

MONDAY, 9/2

#9 NOTRE DAME @ Louisville - 8:00 PM - ESPN
- ALL EYES ON THE IRISH IN PRIMETIME
- Seriously, though, let's just see a clean operation and take care of business
- Louisville will be fine under Scott Satterfield... but not this year
- Does ND preview their 3-RB formations? Or are they gonna be saving some things for 9/21?
- Go Irish

Thursday is incredible... Cinncy/UCLA can't really get any more interesting for a game with two teams that aren't title contenders and then it's followed up by the Holy War?? Dude...

The rest of the slate is just eh,.. good to see Bama playing an actual college football team I guess.

If this was the slate of games for Week 3 I wouldn't be that excited but because everyone is undefeated and we don't really know what's up yet I can't f'ing wait. Thursday is amazing and Friday has 2 games worth watching. Saturday games could be spread out a little better but oh well. If some of these bad teams can keep things interesting against the powerhouses the day will be lit.

I will be joining this party off and on, already planning to mow the lawn tomorrow so my entire weekend is free.

Can't wait for Thursday, this week is going so slow and I'm having an even harder time concentrating.

I planned on watching UC vs UCLA from the comfort of my man cave, that way I can appreciate seeing 'The Nip at Night' on a big screen while listening to Pat McAfee as a color analyst (gonna be amazing)...

But Nippert Stadium goes HAM for night games. I might have to suck it up and go to the game.

I went to two Thursday night games at Nippert and had an amazing experience. Crowd really gets after it and the location can't be beat.

Nippert is a gem. Perfect location just nestled into campus and tucked away.

I might hold out and wait for when UCF comes to town... 8pm kickoff at Nippert, and Wimbush is hopefully still starting for UCF.

I could see UC and Fickell's defense stifling UCLA in front of a rowdy home crowd...

But I could also see UCLA's offense clicking immediately after a second offseason getting prepped by Chip Kelly, and scoring a boatload of points.

As long as UC's offense doesn't shit the bed, I like their chances in either type of game. But one would be much more stressful to watch lol.

Idk, I think this is a pretty solid slate for week 1.

- Utah/BYU is an awesome game for a Saturday afternoon, let alone Thursday night. Spread is like 4 pts...should be a good one. Can Utah avoid the upset and get their hype train rolling towards a Pac12 championship birth?

- Stanford/NW is must watch football IMO if you like physicality. Two coaches with similar style/philosophy (and both are douches, IMO). Hunter Johnson is an intriguing piece as well.

- Oregon / Auburn...One of the best OLs in Oregon vs. one of the best DLs in Aub. The Pac12 needs a "statement win" like this. I think Auburn may be overrated, but you know the media will blow the Ducks if they pull this off.

- Fresno St. / USC has all the makings of an upset. You can make a pretty sound argument that Fresno St. has been the best football team in CA over the past two seasons. Helton's seat is burning hot, but USC has a ton of skill to bounce back this year. Interested to see a JT Daniels with a year of experience under his belt and a bevy of weapons to distribute the ball.

Yeah the plausible scenarios are really all over the map considering the differing factors. Go Bruins (Bruins and Jayhawks are my Bearcats, sorry bud).

Totally agree this is the Douchey Coach Bowl

I wish Oregon/Auburn was on campus....neutral sites are a plague on college football

Correct CSU vs CU... terrible game last year but normally a entertaining game

Also a rivalry game that makes sense to be at a neutral site, but ends up being a terrible atmosphere. Stadium is too big for two fledgling programs. Would love to see this move to campus, alternating years.

One of the most memorable yet randoms cfb games ever for me was a random CSU/CU night game where CSU had twin brothers, Van Pelt or something like that, who dominated the game and led CSU to the win... some time around 2005 or so. Forget their exact names but that game has stuck with me for some reason.

Dood. That was the game IIRC, Van Pelt scored a rushing TD, and literally bitch slapped a CU player with the ball while crossing the goal line. It was awesome.

#24 Nebraska vs South Alabama - 12:00 PM - ESPN
- Nebraska is a popular pick to explode in year two under Scott Frost
- Nebraska QB Adrian Martinez is the next big thing

Nebraska fans are sure betting on it.

https://www.espn.com/chalk/story/_/id/27483351/iowa-sportsbook-inundated-cornhuskers-title-bets

Last Thursday, an hour after the new sportsbook at Ameristar Casino in Council Bluffs, Iowa, opened for business, a bettor placed a $2,800 wager on the Nebraska Cornhuskers to win the national championship at 66-1 odds.

It was a sign of what was to come.

A week later, nearly 60 percent of the money that has been bet on Ameristar's odds to win the national title is on the Cornhuskers. Out of the first 260 title bets placed, more than half (132) were on Nebraska.

In comparison, as of Tuesday, there had been 16 bets combined on favorites Alabama and Clemson.

"The liability on Nebraska is approaching $250,000," Erich Zimny, head of retail sportsbook operations for Penn National Gaming, which runs Ameristar, told ESPN. "We'd anticipate more plays coming in over the next couple weeks."

Lots of talk on the broadcast about how Wimbush was gripping the ball incorrectly when he came to UCF.
