Valid points here. I'm not saying take Alloway over Robertson or McKinley if it came down to it. But I doubt it comes down to having to make that decision.

See it won't come down to that. More than likely it will come down to him taking a defensive players spot which is somewhat alarming considering we are stocked for O talent for the forseeable future and our D is what is struggling the most.

I doubt he will take an instant impact player's spot, though. And that's what we need on D. I trust BK to maximize this kid's value on O.

Decent film, not blown away.... Would much rather they take the new DE offer if they can or take the kid from Bama (V. Jones), he is a superior prospect in my book.

I disagree on both. We don't need just instant impact guys. We need depth in the secondary for the immediate future and Pride Jr. does that. Won't play next year but I'd rather have him than Alloway.

And thats my wildcard in all of this, if this is about who we want the most, Velus is ahead of Damian.

Disagree. Strongly. Can't remember the last 5'8" WR with decent speed that rounds off all of his routes that ever made a big impact for a good team in college or the pros. He's like Davonte Neal but literally worse in every aspect.

Davonte went to my local high school in AZ. Damian Alloway is miles better than Davonte Neal was as a total football player. Alloway has all 3 phases of the game covered. The talking heads on LA TV that cover high school football have gone as far as using the H word to describe Alloway... everybody wants a HONEY BADGER of their own. (that ought to drive you crazy! lol) You want him Lax... you just don't know it yet!

So he won't improve his route running by the time his name is called upon and the team will be relying on him? CJ Sanders is 5'8" too.
Not totally disagreeing with you but when the team year in and year out fails to field a team of 85, we'd be stupid to turn this guy away. Wouldn't make much sense to take a guy like Fertita but turn down Alloway

I don't know about you guys but the thought of Damian Alloway came to mind when CJ was muffing returns. CJ-S and DA are similar in size and offensive skill set. Grab Alloway and redshirt him if possible. That way you have an extra year between them and proper depth at the returner/slot position with the added benefit of Alloway's potential upside at DB.

Looks a tad faster. All he does he score. Alloway goes All-the-way everytime he touches the damn ball.

Get him here.

This. I was indifferent to him in the summer--because I wanted a hybrid RB more--but after watching a few of his game tapes, I changed my tune.

at this point I have written alloway off. I'm too excited about the other prospects we've been talking about.

If alloway by chance commits to ND I would be as excited as if we just landed a long snapper.
(yes, long snappers are important though)

To me, he's a faster Bennett Jackson: Amir Carlisle with football instincts.

If he hasn't decided that this isn't the place for him then he never will. I think he's just waiting for UCLA to take him. We can pass and I'll be perfectly fine with it. Not sure how he's even a top 150 player and I just don't for the speed everyone says n

Would be something if UCLA and ND both end up filling up and passing on him

Here is his senior season highlight.

Most of us feel his junior year film was absolutely underwhelming. Some think he's overrated because of that. His rep is a lot like Daelin Hayes' in that he blew up in the summer via 7v7 and camps.

I saw 3 Summit games this year and he looked great in all of them. This film will make everyone understand why the staff has stayed on him. It's 9 solid minutes of TD's and interceptions. It's better film than CJ Sanders had. I wish Fontana Summit posted stats on MaxPreps, would love to know his stat line. Last thing to remember for those not familiar with his recruitment, he's not the first offensive option on his team. That distinction belongs to SC commit, Stephen Carr who is the #2 RB in nation for the Class of '17. So he had to make his touches count.

I don't see the Sanders speed. Not even close actually, imho.

There was a point where we had lost Bryant off the depth chart, lost Folston to an injury, and were playing Procise without really knowing whether Adams would be good and stay healthy.

We had only 1 RB recruit, Tony Jones Jr., who was not a consensus 4-star yet and was not getting a lot of touches at IMG.

At that point it seemed to make sense to favor landing Stovall. Combine that with the less impressive Jr. film, and Alloway did not seem like a priority on any level. People kind of got down on him during that period, especially because he seemed a little flighty.

Now that the depth charts have essentially flipped, where we need a slot guy and not a RB as much, and his film is so good, I think people need to reassess.

He's really good.

Define speed. He doesn't have CJ-S's track speed I'd guess but then again Will Fuller didn't have Chris Brown's track speed. Alloway has what's needed. He out ran everyone at the LA Opening except Sean McGrew who's PAC-12 track fast. 4.5 flat while coming off an ankle injury is serious.

BUT if you can look at CJ-S's HS highlights and production and say it's on par with DA's, we aren't looking at the same data. It's not an either or for me, it's a both and sit on DA with a redshirt to space him and CJ-S. Love what both of them bring.

I agree 100%. There was a time when I looked at it as a Stovall vs. Alloway question and I liked Stovall for the very reason you mentioned. He was an APB who was asking to get slot time in college because that's where his NFL future was. I dug that for the reasons you mentioned then the RB position got populated and I saw Alloway play this year. Slot and return performance are what you'd expect but it was the defensive performance that really got my attention. We just saw first hand how important a Swiss Army Knife is with CJ-P this year DB -> Slot -> RB. In DA you have a guy that can fill your depth chart at Slot, PR, KR, CB, nickle, dime.

I like Sherms idea of taking him as a corner. He won't play over CJ Sanders and we can focus on a true slot guy next years class.

Thanks for sharing this Rocketman.

I had looked up Alloway's track times a while back and didn't find them on athletic.net. I must have typo'd because they are there now. I also found an article that Rocketman is probably referencing.

So here's a track comparison (reported by athletic.net) between Sanders and Alloway:

Sanders' bests:

100 = 10.76 (Jr)
200 = 21.88 (Jr)

Alloway's bests:

100 = 10.67 (Jr) ..... 10.62 per attached article below
200 = 22.24 (Jr) ..... 21.8 hand timed at conference meet per same article.

Chris Brown's bests:

100 = 10.51
200 = 21.60

Damian Alloway wins twice at Sunkist League Finals

For what it's worth, numbers say they're very comparable on a track. But like I mentioned before, Chris Brown was faster than Will Fuller on a track.

Offense all the way. Nothing wrong with having both Sanders and Alloway in the slot. Nice depth which all great teams have.
