Pleased with performance outside of the oline's penalties, lack of qb runs and long being very predictable in 3rd qtr...I thought the defense especially the tackling, linebackers etc were fantastic.. Wish we got the win but I'm confident without the amount of penalties this likely a victory

IDK about you guys but I feel a lot better about this season today than I did yesterday morning.

Agree. Should be playing in a major bowl at the end of the season. Will be another chance to beat a very good team. I'm sure we'll end up playing one of the teams from Bama, Clemson, LSU, Oklahoma, Ohio State who miss out on the playoffs. Could even see a Georgia rematch.

Wow. The comments are really tough to read. I knew the team was hated, but the blind hatred is crazy. Zero rational thoughts.

Haters. Comments are coming from teams that aren't even Georgia. Not concerned with the opinion of idiots.

On that last play Book spun right into the pressure. Tony Jones was in a position to at least chip the d end coming off the edge and ride him to the outside. Banks and Eichenberg were also riding the d tackle to the outside. If Book steps up in the pocket and keeps his eyes down field he would have had a shot at hitting Finke coming across the middle for a 1st down.

I saw & wondered the same exact thing. Why the hell did Book roll right into the rush?!? And yes, TJJ couldn’t even get his defender off track. Horrible play call, but even worse execution.

Hard to tell from the camera view, but looked like the crossing & seam routes were the most successful options all night. Again, without seeing the UGA defensive scheme from above; I acknowledge they may have taken that away.

Alexander needs to work Keys, Finke, McKinley & Davis on getting separation. They’re too passive.

I hope NDShark is okay this morning.

No doubt. I assume everyone on here realizes that a bunch of fans (short for fanatic) jumping on a message board immediately after a tense game are going to let their emotions rule their posts? Now mix in alcohol and you get a long night of squabbling w/ fellow fans.

I’m not jumping ahead b/c ND has a tough ‘trap’ game vs UVA next week. Yes, they struggled to beat ODU. Why do you think that is? You know why. If UVA is for real, this will be a hard fought contest. One bowl projection (IIRC Ralph Russo of AP) has us rematching UVA in a NY6 bowl.

Everyone is destroying finke which I get and it’s understandable but he’s also playing Micheal young’s role and it’s not his usual position. Once young comes back then finke will go back to slot in his natural position. I’m as pissed as anyone about Finkes play

I need to go back and look but Finke played plenty in the slot last night. There’s not an ND fan around that doesn’t love & respect the kid but if you’re the coaching staff, you owe it to the program to put the best option in there. IMO, that’s Keys based on his sure hands in traffic whether the pass is accurate or not. Finke can still be a huge asset & contributor as PR but it will be hard convincing me going forward that he’s the best ND can do in the slot.

Agreed. And I still think we probably lose another game. Just think a 10-2 ND will end up playing in a major bowl against the best available team that didn't make the playoffs.

Georgia will beat Bama this year. Georgia looked elite. Even when ND outplayed Georgia during the first half, Georgia still played really well minus the one fumble. Then, Georgia outplayed ND (by a lot) for all but the last 6 minutes of the second half, and ND still had a chance to win the game on the road. ND isn't a complete team, which will mean it can struggle more easily against competition than a complete team like Georgia, Bama, and Clemson; but ND proved it's in that upper elite echelon.

For anyone who doubts that based on the Clemson game last year, keep in mind Clemson essentially dominated Bama just as much as it did ND. All of those teams a more complete teams with an elite running back. ND is essentially OU, but with more balance (i.e., great D to go with a good O as compared to a great O with an ok D).

Yeah, I thought Finke played a lot of slot last night. And his struggles weren't just last night, he's been ineffective all season (I realize he's been playing outside some too, which isn't a great fit. But still...)

I was also surprised we didn't see more of McKinley, just based on his size. He was in on some short yardage/red zone packages, had one end zone fade thrown in his general direction, but didn't see him much beyond that.

Hell, at this point I might flex Tremble out to WR as well, or run more two TE stuff. We just need some athletes out there. With Lenzy hurt we're basically down to four traditional receivers, one of whom is a senior with two catches in his career.

After last nights game ND needs to seriously consider going out and getting another RB in the 2017 class

FIFY

(But seriously, yes. Back to back classes with one RB doesn't leave you with much slack when guys get hurt/transfer/whatever. And this is what that looks like., ramming a big slow guy into Georgia's front seven for two yards.)

Sooooo, does UGA not have NFL talent? A lot of analysts think they have as much or more than Clemson/Bama. We literally just witnessed our no-talent, overrated, ill-prepared team go out and take a jr NFL team with potential first and second round draft picks all over the place at their house (at night) and our fan base response is we can’t even compete with teams UGA is thought to be right there with......? I am at a loss

UGa is gonna get dominated by Bama, it won't be close. I'll be here when it happens. They do have NFL talent...that's 3 years away from playing in the NFL. Only guy that's remotely close to going is D'Andre Swift, and he was on full display. They have 2 5* freshman wideouts that just aren't ready to dominate yet. Bama however, has 4-5 guys -just on offense- that are going in the 1st round next year. Jerry Jeudy is the best WR I've seen since Julio Jones at this level, and Henry Ruggs is destroying teams ala Tyreek Hill. Najee Harris was the #2 OVERALL player in his class, he's fuckin Derrick Henry reincarnated. They also have Jaylen Waddle, who's gonna go in the 1st round of the 2021 draft. Not to mention Tua, the best QB prospect in a while imo. ND doesn't have that level of talent, they just don't. It was abundantly clear in the game with Clemson last year, Justyn Ross, Tee Higgins, Travis Etienne, and Trevor Lawrence made play after play downfield, and they're all still aying for Clemson...until they get drafted in the 1st round of the 20/21 drafts. Every one of those guys I've listed is better than ANY player on ND's offense. I'm a ND fan thru and thru, but it's not realistic to think THIS team can beat those teams. Georgia is that next tier, and I believe ND is in the back of that 2nd tier with Georgia, but Bama and Clemson are at the top and I feel like there's a sizable gap between them and everyone else. They've just recruited insanely well. ND has some incredible classes coming, and you had that with what is here, I legit think we play for, and win, a CFP title in the next 3-5 years. You put Jordan Johnson and Chris Tyree with that team last night, and upgrade the QB play to a Tyler Buchner, shit we win that game. I think we will be on the Bama/Clemson level very soon, it just isn't now imo.

No one is saying this. 1 and 2 are clearly Clemson and Bama. Then below them is Georgia. Then razor thin below them is ND, OU, OSU, etc

This is exactly what everyone would have said last year too. Then we played Clemson closer than Alabama. I think any of these teams could beat one another, and I also think Alabama and Clemson aren't as far away from the pack this year.

Yep my bad. Also woke up feeling optimistic about the future...and hungover, obviously. I can only wonder what would've happened if we had more of our skill players available. One thing I've seen referenced in comments of a few tweets has been faking injuries. I believe we had two players go down at times when UGA was gaining some steam. We can't know definitively what happened there, but it certainly seemed a bit sheisty.

Wow. The comments are really tough to read. I knew the team was hated, but the blind hatred is crazy. Zero rational thoughts.

The "blind hatred" won't go away ever. The "hatred" wont go back to silent shadow dwelling until we impose multiple years of dominance on the big teams. We're still in a close-yet-so-far stasis.

Right now, we remain the easiest target in college football to criticize, because we remain relevant and beloved for being Notre Dame, independent, continue to lose the elite games, but you can't legitimately call us terrible like a Michigan squad. There's a reason we still don't really hear U$C's name dragged through the mud - 2003, 2004. We've gotten away with being a storied program for decades when our overall play was terrible, even though we have fielded some talented teams throughout the years, especially most recently. So the ghosts remain.

Even if we had won the game last night, fans would have just said Georgia isn't actually that good. Heck, some people are already saying that a 4-0 Georgia isn't that good, in part because they played a close game with us.

We need to pull a Clemson to shut up the naysayers and we can't do that until we start winning against the big boys consistently. Everyone is tired of waiting for this to happen, no one more than us true fans.

Exactly what I expected. Didn't think UGA had the rush to expose Book. The staff did a great job sandbagging.

My main focus on ND is recruiting. Not just fanboi-ing 5*'s or players on a singular level but finding 20-25 ND kinda guys per year that fill holes. ND wins these games 66%+ when 3-5 of those holes are filled with Tyree, J.Johnson, Mayer, Baker & Bothelo like the '20 class has. They're off to a great start in '21 with Buchner, Fisher & Rubio. They just have to nail a Tyree, a JJohnson and a Kyle Hamilton level DB now.

When Phil has these guys in 2021 & '22, watch tf out.

I can’t remember who tweeted back at someone but it was a analyst and he said finke wasn’t playing in his natural position and was playing in young’s role so that’s what I was going off of. Don’t know if it’s true or not. My bad if that’s wrong.

And I 150% agree that finke is not the best slot player we can put on the field. Keys> finke but we know BK loves his underrated players so we will see what he does when young comes back. And seeing that he dressed yesterday who knows he could be back very soon

If you truly believe this team wasn't ready to play, you are nuts

We do build as student athletes and it may be the reason we never win another NC in this new climate but its what makes ND special. It's why I loved them as a kid, its why I busted my ass in school to get accepted and why I am damn proud to be an alumni. I love what this institution stands for and couldn't be more proud of how they played. Truly believe this team is going to get better and better and we may not have enough on the schedule to get back to the playoffs, but I promise no one wants to see us on a neutral field

The offense was not ready. Did you not see the penalties, drops, poor throws, offensive game plan, etc?

As for the rest, I'm just pointing out the reality of the situation.

Our defensive line was held 60% of the game. Fink had one bad bobble and we crucify him. Keys makes that catch in the first half after the bobbled snap. We may win.
As I said before the game and just rewatched. Officiating had too much to do with the outcome.
A Pass Interference non-call at the end of the game sums up the whole game.
If we had Crawford last year in the Sugar Bowl. We Win the Ship
Yea, I am a lil bitch when It comes to fair play and even officiating.

Defense played to win the game. Lea gambled early and often, and it worked for almost every series. He had them ready to play. They never once looked overwhelmed or scared, just understandably exhausted. I was quite impressed with the defenses ability to rise to the moment instead of wither.

When we got the ball with 2 minutes, I had absolutely no doubt in my mind Book was going to lead a successful winning TD drive.

Kept getting visions of Joe Montana hobbling around and getting off ugly throw after ugly throw to keep moving the ball.

But alas, it didnt work out. All losses suck, but not all losses are created equal. The team left it all on the field, and they should not regret anything, except maybe 4th and 9.

The Coaches have to know Kirby is bringing the noise to avoid Book having time to get off a clean pass.

Agreed. I don’t think we win these games unless we have a new OC with free reign and a new Oline coach. Kelly needs to sit back and be a CEO only (and his clock management at the end of the first half left a lot of room for improvement). Lea is a blessing and he had the D ready. We need his counterpart on O.

At least we proved we belong in the top 10.

Like I give a shit. 2014 FSU, 2015 Clemson, 2017 Georgia, 2019 Georgia. We have to win one of these freaking games. I'm so tired of getting up the morning after these big games and reading the BS "better than expected but just short" back pat pieces by the ND beat writers.
