Gentlemen, I think that we need to keep reminding ourselves that Book is being very productive WITHOUT any real threatening running back. Talk about hamstringing an offense!! Until Kmet showed Georgia his Beast Mode, we couldn't field more than ONE really threatening wide receiver (Claypool). I think that it is ASTOUNDING that Book (and Long) have been as dangerous as they have been.

Boy do I look forward to the time when our RB actually scares the opposing DC, and we have at least three receiving threats --- genuine ones, not fantasy ones or eye-test ones --- to throw to. It is my opinion that Long and Book will suddenly look like All-Stars, and so will the OLine.

Good post. The only thing I somewhat disagree on is Long's play calling the 2nd half. But yep, it's been pretty good/efficient thus far with zero running game, and a very mixed bag of WRs. I really want to see some of the young WRs more. While I love Finke and McKinley, and there is a place and time for them, our collective ceiling is higher with others. Long is going to have to be creative until our rushing game gets some help.

Agreed Mike great post. I was annoyed with Long last week too but all things considered, we are limited in our offense without a semblance of a running game.

if, IF, we can get through USC undefeated and into the bye week ahead of scUM, get a healthy (and well-rested) Jafar Armstrong back, this offense could be dynamic, assuming we are healthy elsewhere. All big ifs, but the ceiling for this offense hasn't been sniffed yet and that ceiling dropped significantly in the 1Q in L'ville when Armstrong went down, IMO. Kmet and Young are back, time to get him back healthy and give us a new dynamic at RB.

Can I just say it's ridiculous how much big media is hanging on to the "fake injuries" narrative. The injuries weren't fake. They were admittedly "conveniently" timed, though they didn't affect the outcome ultimately. Most UGA fans and other commenters I've seen on other boards seem to agree. But I still see articles from multiple "reputable" websites come out every day trying to stir up controversy. Also, reporters in press conferences keep asking questions despite both Kelley and Smart trying to shut them down.

I really haven't seen this since Monday. Who is still pushing the narrative?

IMO, the big issue was on the broadcast team. Danielson erroneously calling out "fake" injuries in real time with no information was completely irresponsible.

Since I trust Coach, I'm believing that we are in fact seriously monitoring our on-field guys after they take a big hit (Kelly said via field glasses and monitors), and the health staff has the authority to transmit to the field the "take-a-knee" order if they suspect something is wrong.

Kelly said that this is automatic procedure now; the player hears this shouted at him from the sideline; and that is why our second player (Sanders) began to do likewise thinking it was shouted at him.

All the crap-suckers and spewers out there will do what they do best, but IF this IS our procedure, then I stand in thunderous applause AND believe that the others programs with any care at all for their athletes will imitate it.

So, up yours Mandel, Danielson, ESPN in general et al.

Mr. Mike getting salty. That’s when you know the program is in a good place.

I'll survive. I went to ND in 1958-1962 --- look up THAT era's records before feeling bad about THIS one's.

... and if I could just shake off this arthritis, I probably could still dunk. :=}}

Jealous, truly am. There was this one time where I slapped the backboard and actually made the layup. :)

No, really, that’s pretty cool.

Hard to believe the excuses I've heard from the Ga fans-unbelievable -maybe they should ask Smart how good Notre Dame is-I hope these guys run the table but I am concerned with the schedule its not as easy as people predict-va/southern cal/ mich/ navy are concerns. Its a tougher schedule than they are being given credit for imop. We need the running backs to step up. Say what you will those marines will be ready.

David Pollack noted it as well in a tweet. He played it coy saying something to the effect of...”whether you agree, disagree or are indifferent; faking injuries happens all the time”

Why?

Still projects as a 2 year starter, and transferring would still give him his same path to play (sitting a year + playing 2 years).

He redshirted his freshman year, he's going to sit most of this year, and you think he'll want to sit next year if Book comes back? That means he'll have his senior year and no guarantee that he'll play for a 5th year at ND.

I don't think he'll want to sit.

Is this fact or conjecture? Has he proclaimed that at all? I’m curious. He seems from interviews and the way he handled the recruitment, that he’s reasonable, measured and grounded (as much as a kid his age can be).....

Conjecture...don't think he'll want to sit.

Just posted about this being my biggest fear in the UVA post game thread. If I'm PJ, no way I wanna spend another year behind an average QB when I have the skill set to take this team places they haven't been in 30 years.

I agree with you. I like Book, he is smart and coachable kid, and he did great things last year. However I think Phil gives ND a better chance to win in championship games.

Agreed. Book can take us to the playoffs, PJ has the potential to win em, which is more than we can say about Book IMO

On the other hand, PJ also has the potential to go 7-5.
