Criteria Thread for IE Hall of Notre Dame Men

Because no two players are the same. I would vote for Jerome Bettis, despite his lack of a degree, because he was a kid who came from a rough set of circumstances, persevered, and probably in no small part due to the influence of Notre Dame, became by most all accounts a model citizen......... and a Hall of Fame football player.

While I don't have anything bad to say about Darius Walker, I would NOT vote for him because he doesn't have a degree and I don't think he has done anything special enough to cause me to overlook that.

If the question is:

1) Is a player eligible for the Hall if they did not earn an undergraduate degree from Notre Dame?

Then your answer is clearly "yes." I honestly don't think this was as complicated as people are making it out to be. This is about eligibility, not election.

True. The Bus did try and come back to the university to finish his degree while he was in a contract dispute with the Rams, but he didn't get enough credits to finish out during that break. I imagine he was probably really close at that point. Definitely qualifies imo given where he came from, how he rose up to be a better person, and all the charity work he's done through his career.

I answered yes, but with the caveat that it should count for something. So make it count by requiring that people without the degree have to meet a higher plateau in order to make it in. Then the degree counts for something, but you leave room for deserving exceptions.

To be elected, a player must receive at least 75% "yes" votes. Polls for each player will be open for one week starting with the date/time of each player's thread creation. All votes in each poll should be "public."

There are no other requirements. If enough people do not want an non-graduate or suspended player to be elected then the results will reflect that.
