The Chiefs offense should improve this year. Mahomes is in his second year starting. All the skill position players are back and almost all the big uglies. Mitch Morse, C, who is a great talent but often injured, was a free agent and signed with the Bills becoming the league's highest paid center. But he averaged playing only nine games for KC over the last two years and has already been put on concussion protocol by the Bills. His replacement, center Austin Reiter, started four games last year and played in eleven. The RG, Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, who had started thirty-eight games there from 2015-17 and the first four games in 2018 before a season-ending injury, is fully healthy and back. Tyreek Hill just signed a three year $54 million extension with the Chiefs. Sammie Watkins is fully healthy. Andy Reid can also throw Mecole Hardman, their first pick of the 2019 draft (#56), who runs a 4.31 forty, into the mix as a punt or kickoff returner as well as a WR.
KC just needs to overcome the truism that defense wins championships. The injury report for their first game's opponent, Jacksonville, is that their starting LT, Cam Robinson, is out while their second string LT, Cedric Ogbuehi, has been previously ruled out. Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone said second-year lineman Will Richardson would start at left tackle. Richardson, who had been a guard in the NFL, played right tackle at NC State, but has never played an NFL snap in his career. He will match up against Frank Clark.
