Not really.

Question though:

Couldn’t you strategically plan a season around two QBs that could actually work for everyone’s benefit?

I realize these are young atheletes we are talking about, but football is football. The physicality of it at the collegiate level has to fatigue the mental game.

In order to keep the legs fresh and the mind sharp, couldn’t you reserve Wimbush for games that would be more advantageous for a dual quarterback whose primary strength is running.

For the games that require more of the pass and are less daunting competitively, play Book.

How unorthodox of a strategy would this be? I know this is much like QB by committee, which goes against the general consensus for one guy at the helm. I don’t mean flip flopping throughout the game, plugging in QBs here and there. This would be more of a game by game rotation with BW seeing the majority of the games on the schedule with a few should-wins where Book can provide some reprieve.

Just wondering... I know this would never happen.

@ Texas 2016 says, "ew" to any multiple QB situation.

Has anyone looked at RB production with the respective QBs under center? Seems to me BW takes carries away from the RBs so wouldn't it also be fair to look at total rushing production to see if Book is opening up the run game? All this credit is given to BW for adjusting his QBR for his rushing stats but what if total rushing production is just as good under Book?

I thought the general theory was that a running QB often opens up opportunities for the RBs because the defense also has to account for his legs on options, draw plays, etc. He may take carries from the RBs, but the carries they get may be more productive. In theory, at least.

Doesn’t USC, though, typically have a very open practice policy?

as far as i know under Carroll every single practice was open for media. I think it's still the same. Sam Darnold's grandparents attended every single one of his practices as invited guests. An NCAA rule makes August a recruiting dead period, so practices during fall training camp must be closed to the public, except invited guests of the athletic department

Football is about repetition not trial and error. It's much easier for the other players to groove around 1 QB than it is 2. The OL, for instance, adapts to the QB cadence to get off the ball quicker. There are 100 other reasons why a QB by committee does not work - Tebow and Leak say hello.

Please list #2 thru #100.

The must have wrapped up early enough so they could get the seniors discount before 4:00PM.

If we go two QBs, I'm not worried. People will cite the 2016 Texas game, but there were a lot of factors going into that one that contributed to problems (Primarily on defense), and there's no guarantee we win if Kizer takes all the snaps because Zaire only had a few series when all was said and done.

Kelly has shown more often than not that he can win when he plays two different QBs: 2014 LSU, 2018 LSU, 2012 Purdue, and similar situations at Cincinnati.

I'd like to see how bad the ints are/aren't.

Could be wrong routes, tipped passes, or just play old ugly.

Isiah Robertson moved to WR.

Yup. Wondering if they put him there because they like the starters and depth at linebacker, so they moved him to WR to use his athleticism elsewhere?

It wouldn't surprise me if some of those INT's are because he's forcing the ball. Similar to what we've been told in the past, coaches want him to hang in their and throw the ball so he can work on his accuracy. Though he struggles with accuracy, he actually doesn't throw a lot of INT's. He's actually quite conservative with regards to that, as he'll either take off and run, or just eat it. INT's haven't been the issue.

In fact, statistically Wimbush has less of a problem with INT's than Book. If you look at INT to TD ratio and INT per attempts or completions.

Yep, this is what I'm curious about. It's practice, so I doubt he's going to be throwing too many into the stands to play it safe.

Getting Hainsey back is big

Yea and luckily he’s got another 8-9 practices left before Michigan so that starting unit can continue to gel. If he were practicing just the day before Michigan there might be some issues but it’ll be nice for them to get more cohesive as a unit especially with Michigan coming to town.

It's weird though, somebody must be wrong. Jamie at ISD has it that BK said Hainsey is being shut down for a week or so

I think that's consistent with what is being reported. 7-8 days, he's expected back next Tuesday.
