I very well may end up eating these words, but I would welcome a game against Clemson. They look like a great team, and definitely deserve to be No. 2, but there's something about them that makes me think they'll be in a serious dogfight with whomever they end up facing out of the 1 loss contenders.

This will be very interesting if both Notre Dame and Michigan win out. No way they pass us through the regular season. If Michigan throttles NW in the CCG I think there will be a lot of chatter how it is unfair that ND doesn’t play in a conference and doesn’t have to play a 13th game. I could see us getting screwed in that scenario.

I missed this gem of a sarcastic tweet from Sampson.
Classic.

Dexter Williams up to 17 carries and 162 yards tonight. He’s been so good this season it makes you wonder if Notre Dame would have beaten Michigan if Williams was available.
— Pete Sampson (@PeteSampson_) November 11, 2018

I'm with you on this. Clemson has looked like world beaters a lot this season, but their schedule has not held up well over the season. The ACC is a wreck this year and they didn't have a great OOC schedule. They're good, but I would love to see ND play them.

Under the scenario that Georgia upsets Alabama with both of them in the Final Four with Clemson who plays Pitt in the ACC championship and the Committee chooses Michigan over an undefeated Notre Dame, who won all five ACC games, beat both teams in the Big 10 Championship game and one of the ACC Championship game opponents, the message would be clear. Not only won't a one loss ND ever get into the Playoff but an undefeated ND with that type of resume won't.

First, beat Syracuse.

I think the head to head trumps any debate about a conference championship game in this situation. If Michigan and ND were in the same conference, Michigan may not even be in the conference championship game due to their loss to us.

It is going to be hard for the committee to on one hand say a loss in week one doesnt mean that much (Michigan) because it is a long time ago, then on the other say a loss in week thirteen doesnt mean that much because...

Oh, I agree with you completely. I just expect that conversation to be had and certain pundits (like Tebow, Desmond, etc...) to be pushing that narrative.

Honestly I think us beating syracuse is a more impressive win than Michigan beating Ohio State if that were to happen. I'd take Cuse over Ohio State right now. Ohio State wouldn't be able to stop cuse.

Another Zinger!

Come on man. Ohio State's making the playoffs. Syracuse might lose 5 games.

I just meant "if we beat Clemson." Wasn't implying that would be an easy game, although I certainly would rather play Clemson than Bama.
I want Clemson to lose to Pitt in the ACCCCG and have us play Michigan in the playoffs.

They’ve done it before..

Who knows. Maybe Narduzzi dials up some schemes like he did against us and gets into the head of that freshman QB of theirs. I don’t know how Pitt moves the ball on Clemson, but a close game means anything could happen.

why in the world would you want us to play mich again?

Because he thinks they'd be the easiest to beat being that ND's already beat them once?

Why wouldn't you want to play them? Because you hate them? Because you're afraid ND would lose to them?

It's tough to beat a team twice. Couple that with the fact that the mouthbreathers would go nuts if they did win, and never let us live it down...

I would rather not play any team in a rematch in a bowl game ever, especially one that is somewhat capable of playing good football.

But when talking to a scUM fan in the future wouldn't it be fun to say..."Remember when we beat your ass twice in the same year"? If we win out, we will have to play somebody tough so it might as well be scUM

I don't disagree. I, personally, would rather not even give them a chance to hang again on the field.

There is ZERO doubt that the #1 scenario to look back on would be to kill MI in Semi's & beat Bama in NC. But seriously, who's looking forward to it?

What about this:

Ohio State beats scUM, wins the B1G handily, and then Bama loses to UGA in a close upset...

1. Clemson
2. Bama
3. UGA
4. Ohio State/Notre Dame
5. Notre Dame/Ohio State

Would that be a detrimental scenario for ND? Because ND no longer has the head-to-head argument to lean on, and the best win in a 12-0 campaign lost most of its luster.

The committee could easily say, "Ohio State won a conference championship, and we feel is a better team at this time."

Just win, ND.
Just win, Bama.

I Purdon't think that would be that hard. Simple message to OSU is Purdon't lose by 4 TD's to a .500 team. I would imagine even the most diehard OSU fan would not have a Brohmblem with that.

The whole argument about ND getting left out at 12-0 is disingenuous. It won’t happen, not even with crazy mental gymnastics. The “debate” is a product of the playoff system.

If the BCS still existed, the debate would be whether ND... with a superior SOS and better wins... deserves to be in the title game over Clemson. Think about that for a second, and the stupidity of ND getting left out of the top 4 in any scenario becomes apparent.

We are the B1G(ot) champion by default. Ship the trophy, we can store it next to the hockey hardware.

Wait - Michigan hasn't won their division yet, let alone the title game. I put low odds on them winning both. OSU may be a huge step down from previous iterations but one thing they pride themselves on is whooping Michigan. You really think Urbs is going to just let them have one before he skips town?

What I find amusing, the only place I hear of a 12-0 ND not making the playoffs is here.

I think we are safe from Bama as long as we don't trip in with one loss (which most here seem to think we would stand 0.0% chance of playoffs). Bama loses to UGA and we get #1 Clemson vs. #4 Bama with #2 ND vs #3 UGA - This might be the best scenario for us.

Bama wins and we aren't dropping to #4 unless the committee pulls the ultimate screw job on us. Most likely we get #4 UM/OSU/OK vs #1 Bama and #2 Clemson vs #3 ND. I could see them looking for any excuse in the book to put us at #4 though.

I think, once it all plays out, a one loss ND would have a pretty good shot at making the playoffs. Won't be many one loss teams out there and they may want an excuse to put us in there for ratings and every other school would beg not to be #4 to be sacrificed at the altar of Saban.

Because they're not as good as Alabama and Clemson and it's toss up for me between them and UGA. We beat them with our back up QB and #2 RB earlier this year.

I think beating a blue blood like UGA/OSU/Clemson/Oklahoma would have more street cred than beating Michigan again. Those teams have more recent sustained success backing up their status whereas Michigan is just the latest flavor of the month who is only getting attention b/c they have a big name (kind of how people frequently view ND). Much more Pretender than Contender.

I would absolutely love to see OSU fall in to a #3 spot by winning out and either Clemson or Bama picking up a loss to fall to #4. Best match up of all the above IMO AND the added benefit of some long overdue revenge on those asshats. Beat Urban into another medical retirement - that would be sooooooo much sweeter than beating Hairball again (which we get to do next year anyway).
