They might get a stop in the 4Q when Hurts goes in.... :)

Let's not forget that OK was held to it's lowest points total (28) by a team that has a decent D (Army - pure stats have them ranked 11th yrds/game). Seven pt game that was tied going into the 4Q, and ended in OT.
Bama D = 1000 X Army D

I listened yesterday to guys saying Army would probably break into the top 25 of CFP ballots. This game Is the first thing I thought of. <iframe src="https://giphy.com/embed/l41lRILDx5ElFxzFu" width="480" height="271" frameBorder="0" class="giphy-embed" allowFullScreen></iframe><p><a href="https://giphy.com/gifs/yosub-l41lRILDx5ElFxzFu">via GIPHY</a></p>

Army is a decent team. They are ranked in the AP and Coaches I believe. Great running game, and decent D. That said, they lost by more to Duke than OK....

But Army is 9-2 with major wins against Liberty and Colgate.

Army did beat the #1 MAC team (Buf), and two others in the top 4 (MAC). They are definitely not horrible, and IMO will blow Navy out.

Yeah, I was being kind of snarky, but I agree with your opinion.

I know, and I'm not really arguing. I was the one that brought up that OK could barely beat non-P5 middle of the road Army :). They are great, for an Army team historically, but they are still Army... and a CFP team shouldn't go into OT with Army...

They're 23 in the AP. The AP Is so overblown that they had Auburn in the top 10 pre-season... #9

Coaches did too. #10 But, I find more judgment is placed in the lack of information from people doing they're jobs wrong. Coaches judge what other's say unless they are a team on their schedule...

The only plausible scenario I can see would be if Bama beats UGA, but it's an extremely well-fought, close game... maybe a couple of OT's. It would be hard to argue that UGA wasn't one of the 4 best teams then. In that scenario, they wouldn't want UGA at #4 to play Bama in back-to-back games, so might put them at #3 and ND at #4 just to avoid that. None of this is likely, but it's the only way I see Bama & ND meeting in the semi's.

Clemson and Bama both lose - Bama drops to #4 to play #1 Irish. UGA/Sooners in the 2/3 spot. Every bad juju element at play with a #1 ND vs Bama 2012 rematch and Swarbrick would insist on playing in Miami b/c well, just b/c.

I bet all my vbucks they get a stop.

If their defense really is that shitty then they should never punt and on-side kick it all day. It would be fun if they had the stones to try that.

I have thought this of the Big12 all year. ISU plays a little bit of defense though. Matt Campbell has built a decent little team there with duct tape and bailing wire. I would take them in about any bowl game.

It would be fun if:

1. Alabama loses. (Yeah, right.)

2. Clemson loses.

3. Oklahoma loses.

4. Ohio St. loses.

At least, 3 out of the 4. Or even two, I'll take two.

Someone make a vision board.

All losing would guarantee Bama/UGA both in the playoffs with us playing Bama at 1/4 and UGA playing UCF in the 2/3. Possibly the worst scenario for our path to riches.

Don't discount OSU blowing their wad AT HOME against their hated rival and being flat vs NW this weekend. They have been very flawed and NW might have a good enough defense to take advantage. And Oklahoma just sucks - easy to see them losing to anybody. If those two lose who is in at #4?

As a fan of football, I love points. Give me ND dropping 40 every game, and I'll love watching that. Nothing like some good MACtion as they shoot it out.

As a person who loves the game of football, studying it, the history, coaching it, etc etc. I enjoy those close 17-14, 21-20 games. They have a certain chess match about them.

DO NOT want to ever watch that abomination of a game that MSU and Nebraska played though.

I agree with you in the bold 100%. When watching ND, I want to see as many pts as possible...scored by them.

But when I'm I'm tuning in to a conference championship, or heck even UGA/Oklahoma last year, as good as a game as it was with the back and forth, it's just too predictable when it's TD after TD after TD.

Defensive struggles make every first down and every point count. It's a chess match like you said, and that's more enjoyable IMHO than an air raid with $hit DB play all game.

You can say the same thing about getting a stop or a turnover int he Big12, but that's not physical football. A QB missing a WR, a drop or, FINALLY, a sack; that's usually how the stops occur.

Not that it matters, but Stanford being unranked at 8-4 with shit teams like Missouri being ranked is kind of insane. So much SEC bias in these polls.

I would normally agree, but this year, I'll take Missouri's body of work over Stanford's all day long. I don't think Stanford beat a ranked team all year, and the PAC overall was again very down this year. I think a bunch of SEC teams are overrated, but Missouri at least beat FL. I'd love to see them get a good bowl matchup to see if they really are down, or just a victim of conference bias.

Gotta keep the circular logic going: "SEC teams should be ranked higher because they beat SEC teams who we rank higher."
