Nice catch on the sideline today.
Where was Torii this last weekend against UNC?
Torii Hunter Jr. couldn't have imagined how long it would take to get an opportunity in college.
What turned into a long road to hitting the field at Notre Dame started toward the end of his senior year of high school during practice at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, where Hunter suffered a broken leg in a non-contact drill.
It took Hunter the next year to even come close to his previous form. It meant the sophomore receiver took a redshirt in South Bend last season. He felt as good as ever when fall camp opened up a few months ago.
"I think in spring I wasn't really all the way myself," Hunter said. "I didn't feel as quick or as fast as I normally am. But those first two days of camp I felt really healthy. I felt like I was moving a lot quicker. I worked a lot on my routes and getting off press man. A lot of those things I worked on and I guess they showed those first two days."
Three days into camp came another injury setback. Hunter suffered a torn groin and would be sidelined for weeks.
Hunter returned to practice during the first few weeks of the season then made his college debut against Syracuse, a 31-15 win. Hunter made one catch for a 13-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.
After celebrating with his teammates and returning to the sideline, Hunter took a call from offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock up in the press box. Both could hardly hold back their emotions after such an arduous journey.
"I got kinda choked up," Hunter said. "Just like, after all this hard work it's finally paid off. I knew there was a lot more work to be done but to get that touchdown was just a sigh of relief. I got kinda choked up and I talked to coach (Denbrock) on the headset and he was like, 'I love you man. I'm proud of you, all the hard work.' It kinda brought up a lot of emotions."
Since then Hunter has seen his profile grow. He's up to six catches on the season for 58 yards and has appeared in every contest since Syracuse.
Head coach Brian Kelly gave Hunter an extended look against Arizona State and is starting to work him out at multiple receiver positions rather than just behind Will Fuller, who leads the team in receptions, yards and touchdowns.
"We're going to try and give (Hunter) even more work at 'Z' and 'W' because we like what we see," Kelly said. "We don't necessarily want to take Will off the field to get (Hunter) on the field."
Hunter spent some time at multiple receiver positions during the spring. He played slot receiver against Syracuse as well, so getting different looks at different spots in the formation is nothing out of the ordinary.
He just hopes to keep making the most of it.
"I just go out there and practice my hardest and take advantage of the opportunity when it's given," Hunter said. "I love Will to death. I love seeing him succeed. I love seeing all my teammates succeed. Whenever (Kelly) gives me the opportunity to succeed, I just take advantage of it."

And righteously so. Send the guy back to school and check his prescription, he gets paid too damn much to be allowed to call a fast-ball that far outside a strike!
There are rumors daddy may get a return to Anahiem if the Twins don't get up the winning.
Sarcasm? Twins have the second best record in the league and the Angels are below .500. I could very easily see their roles being reversed in a couple months, but the Twins are looking good as of now.

Five-time All-Star Torii Hunter of Minnesota Twins to retire
supposedly played some nickel CB yesterday? Can anyone confirm?
Yes, he's been cross training for three weeks
He has all the tools to be a great CB. Makes sense for this year but we need him to be a playmaking WR in 2016
