So LSU had a win over Miss State, but how was MS ranked 22nd? They had lost twice and beaten nobody unless you count Auburn.

They play in the SEC. Greatest collection of talent ever assembled.

This is incoherent. Even if LSU is top 4, the only way they make the playoff is by beating Bama, which isn't going to happen. And if it does, Bama won't be #1.

If LSU beats Bama, they'll both make the playoffs assuming it's each team's only loss. Nobody is beating Bama though.

Absolutely, they’re not actually picking who goes to the playoff, they’re just ranking teams. It’d be nice for the “experts” to actually give some thought to the picks by projecting who wins and who doesn’t.

This. 'Bama basically has to lose twice to not make it. (Despite the fact that if they lose to LSU and don't make the SEC title game they'll probably have beaten just one quality team all season: A&M).

Though what then if LSU somehow beats Bama, but loses to Georgia in the SEC title game? Do Georgia and Bama both get in?

That's exactly what happened last year. They beat one top 20 team and lost to the other they played (Auburn).

There is no way in hell Texas should be ranked over LSU right now.

If LSU beats Alabama, Alabama shouldn't be in the playoff. I know they probably will be, but they shouldn't. If they lose to LSU, it would remind me a lot of 2017 for Alabama where they lost their only true regular season test. The thing I hate about the playoff committee is that they seem so enamored by passed seasons and brand name. They never punish teams for scheduling FCS teams or playing Charmin soft schedules in general.

My top 5:
1.) Alabama
2.) Clemson
3.) Notre Dame
4.) LSU
5.) Michigan

Style points matter - Not just in the pageant of rankings but instilling fear in the opponent that they need to worry about getting housed.

Sad but true and ND needs to run up the score more often - stop piddlefvcking around with programs like Ball State and Vandy.

Clemson beat A&M by 2 and Syracuse by 4. They also played an FCS school.

OSU neighbor was playing the "happy we lost so we don't get embarrassed in the playoffs" card that so many on here act like ND needs to play. Also the "we beat Michigan so don't care about anything else". That ship looks like it could go up in flames the way they just quit last night.

One thing is true - nobody wants to play Bama. The rest is a crap shoot.

Away game at a ranked SEC opponent and a Syracuse team that will probably beat us on a frozen baseball field - not exactly the most embarrassing wins, IMO.

Beat NCST 41-7
Beat Wake Forest 63-3
Beat Ga Tech 49-21

See how easy it is to look past those close wins (over P5 teams) when you have absolutely smashed more P5 teams? Pad some stats in 38-7 and 48-7 wins over Furman and Ga Southern - and you have scheduled yourself in to the catbird seat for the playoffs. When you are have earned respect as a contender - you don't have to beat yourself up in the regular season. If we can win a playoff game we would be wise to take note.

We'll see what the committee thinks. Scheduling FCS in 2018 is absolutely inexcusable. Sun Belt and MAC, fine. Not FCS.

And we beat freaking Michigan.

Serious question, why Clemson over us?

I can see it either way. Clemson's win on the road against A&M is looking more impressive and I give them props for scheduling an OOC game on the road against a SEC team.

Notre Dame vs Clemson would be a great game IMO. Notre Dame would have to win battles against that d-line.

I agree with Wiz. If you look at previous polls in 15 and 17 the team that had beaten us both were ranked #1. I think if we beat navy we’ll be #2

I’m so glad we have a playoff so teams like UCF can win 20 straight games and still be on the outside looking in.

Clemson isn’t dropping from the #2 spot until they lose and I don’t see that happening in a weaker than usual ACC this year. If Bama, Clemson, and ND win out the only question remaining is who gets the fourth spot.

I'd bet a lot of vbucks UCF is treated better by the CFP committee, than the AP and Coaches.

I think your odds of making the title game is substantially higher if you are a 2 or 3 seed. Make the title game and anything can happen. That’s why rankings should matter for ND.

Fuck off. Everyone's playing for second place thanks to your team. Go join the NFL or something and beat up on the Browns and the Bills.

Just joking with that first sentence. Enjoy another Natty.

LoL. I like our chances but want to see how this team reacts to some adversity. You never know until you are in it.

I'm good with Bama and Clemson winning out and staying 1-2, assuming we win out and stay at 3. I don't want Bama/Satan getting weeks to prep for ND.... Rather they prep for someone else, and you know Satan will likely assume Clemson will beat us, and begin early prep for them...

If our OL can get it together, I love our chances vs Clemson. And after that, I'd think we'd do decent vs Bama. Not enough to win, but keep it respectable with 14-21 pts loss... lol. To win vs Bama, I think any team will have to throw a ton, and get into a shootout.

I would agree if it were decided today. I like Oklahoma’s chances better than Michigan’s right now. Until Michigan shows they can beat tOSU I ain’t buying the Wolverines.

I agree. Oklahoma definitely passes the eye test for me. Michigan is a turd that a lot of people think is a gold nugget. I just don’t see it. Michigan beats a mediocre top 25 team in Michigan state and all of a sudden people are on their knees worshipping the khaki king.

I think scUM will get all they can handle at home vs PSU in two weeks. I think they'll get beat by 14+ @OSU.
