Not really. ND controls its own destiny. Not Bama. Let's assume the AP poll is what the CFPC's poll will look like. OSU/MSU and Baylor/TCU will canibalize each other. Assuming Ole Miss wins the SEC West (not happenng), they still have to play uga (or whomever else out of the east). Either way, even if the winner jumps ND, we're still top-4. UCLA is more of a threat than anyone out of the SEC since we share multiple common opponents which could be used for or against us leap froggin one another.

Texas could be 3-1 right now with very decent wins over good Cal and Oklahoma State teams... instead they shanked an extra point and got hosed by refs. So that's a shame. Georgia Tech and Virginia, by cotnrast, are showing nothing but garbage.

Our season comes down to beating three tough teams (Clemson, USC, Stanford) and then holding serve against teams we are flat out better than. This Clemson game is going to tell us a lot about how we defend an offense with a skilled QB and skilled playmakers, and how we run the ball against a team we can't just out-class in the trenches. I'm skeptical this ends well for ND, but at the same time I'm not a big believer in Clemson.

While I don't think our OL can just "outclass" Clemson...we should be able to overpower them. We have monsters in the trenches and we're a much more physical football team.

Oh yeah, I'm rolling with the Tide this week. A) UGA is undefeated and near us in the polls, but mostly because B) I hate UGA. That is easily the most unjustifiably arrogant fanbase in college football, maybe all of sports. Every year their team acts like it is the '85 Bears and I'm not sure where such arrogance comes from. They have 1 national title from long before most of their fans were born and the only thing they lead most years is the annual arrest report.

ND desperately needs to win this weekend. Their schedule is shaping up to be 3 real games. This is one of them (at the moment anyways).

I agree ND controls its own destiny. But running the table is difficult to do these days. A one loss ND and a one loss SEC champ in Ga? Best to have a buffer if I were the Irish. I think Ga can run the table after Bama since the East is pretty weak. Don't want to depend on Richt to... well...Richt.

I agree ND controls its own destiny. But running the table is difficult to do these days. A one loss ND and a one loss SEC champ in Ga? Best to have a buffer if I were the Irish. I think Ga can run the table after Bama since the East is pretty weak. Don't want to depend on Richt to... well...Richt.

We can't assume we're going to be undefeated. I'm going to root for what I believe is our best-case scenario to get into the playoff at 11-1. That means we want undefeated teams to lose, period. Especially teams with a legitimate shot at a conference championship.

One-loss SEC champion Georgia would have wins against ULM, Southern, and Georgia Southern and wins against the SEC West champion and absolutely nobody else.

Two-loss SEC champion Georgia with losses to Bama and Georgia Tech is also a legitimate possibility, and 11-1 ND is definitely ahead of them in that situation.

What could possibly make you think that? Which of the following gets in over ND?

11-2 conference champion (especially if Clemson, USC, GT, or Stanford that ND beats head-to-head)
11-1 Big 12 conference champion

There's no chance either of those gets in over Notre Dame. None whatsoever.

This all day, ND won't be kept out of any playoff unless there are four options of similar resume that would all bring in comparable income... I'm not even sure that four schools of that description exist, let alone all win big in the same season...

That's not what I said. I didn't say "ND at 11-1 is absolutely in." I said "ND at 11-1 could get in." ND NYC said there's no chance ND gets in at 11-1. That's crap. Yes, some teams might get in ahead of us if we're 11-1. But I think it's unlikely that there are four such teams in any given season.

Exactly. Or, as looks to be very likely this year, there could be multiple two-loss conference champs. Then ND's path at 11-1 is easy.

One loss SEC champ and OSU would be taken over them this year. No doubt. I don't think it's a given for the ACC, PAC, or Big 12 title winners.

Take for instance this scenario - ND loses a close one to Clemson and then runs the table. Clemson takes care of business and wins the ACC. UCLA drops one to USC, still goes to the title game and handles Stanford.

The good reason is that ND beat USC and UCLA lost to them. ND's only loss was to conference champ Clemson on the road and they beat the same Stanford team UCLA beat to win the PAC. The real reason is ND brings controversy and money while UCLA only has hot women to offer.

I think the "sexy headline" angle actually works against us. They'd much rather see "Lack of conference championship game keeps ND, Baylor out of CFP." The wet dream for the NCAA and ESPN as it relates to ND is forcing ND into the fold of full conference membership. That's not a three hour ratings boost, that's Notre Dame television rights for the bargain basement price of whatever they're paying the ACC.

I think you guys are forgetting who makes up the CFP committee. These people come from every major conference, or have an association to them - this naturally creates a conflict of interest and a bias toward conference teams.

ND is indepedent, so for ND to make it into the playoff, that means two power 5 conference teams are left out. And ND doesn't benefit or receive boost from winning a conference game at the end of the season like these other teams. 11-1 ND would never make it into the playoffs.

there is zero ND love in the "committee room" and my opinion is that the money side of ND WON'T factor in as some feel it will. nor would I want it to TBQH.
I want to be "in" if we deserve it, and have a real shot to win the thing- and not because we will fuel the CFP coffers with our selection.

I totally agree with you from an objective standpoint. My argument is that the CFP committee will not make that decision because they are significantly biased toward their own conferences.

If we were to lose a game i think we would drop to #11 or #12 and would never find ourselves in the discussion...especially during championship weekend. It's got to be clear that we are in prior to the weekend happening in my opinion. I know that some teams can fall that week but I still think we are TCU/Baylor if we lose one. I hope to hello that I am wrong.
