Probably safety. He's 6'1" 185 and could obviously bulk up for football. He was a low-end DI football recruit coming out of HS who played kind of all over the place.

IF he makes it through fall camp it's unlikely he'd be more than a practice body.

I saw that he got drafted by Denver for lacrosse. Is that like baseball, where they will have his option if he chooses to go that route?

I'm high on Sanders but if we're doing a lot of heavy sets and have a rotation at slot that includes Carlisle, Hunter, and Procise I don't know how many reps he'll realistically see.

I'd love to see him keep the redshirt on, but also want the best kids on the field making plays. With the depth that we've built lately, I sure hope we see improved special teams. CJ might fit nicely on PR/KR at this early stage.

I could definitely see him playing a big special teams role, but not at slot just yet unless we have a rash of injuries. At that point I'd much rather see a bunch of 2 TE sets to be honest.

Nick Ossello from the lacrosse team will apparently give football a go in the fall. He was an all-state player in high school.

Notre Dame's newest football player is arriving as a four-year veteran of the lacrosse team -- not a high school football standout.

Defensive tackle Jarron Jones tweeted that Nick Ossello, a senior midfielder on the Irish men's lacrosse team, is joining the Irish football team. A request for confirmation was not immediately returned by a Notre Dame official.

Ossello started 14 games for the Irish as a senior. The Wheat Ridge, Colo., native scored 23 goals and dished out six assists before the Irish fell in the NCAA tournament semifinals to Denver. Ossello hasn't been part of the Notre Dame football team before but spent time on the gridiron in high school. The former defensive back earned all-state, all-city and all-conference honors as a senior at Wheat Ridge (Colo.) High School, , according to Notre Dame's athletics website. He was team MVP and a team captain in his senior year.

Wheat Ridge also won a state title his sophomore season and he was a first-team All-Colorado defensive back.

Using the list in the OP, and adding Baratti, does the news of Williams' transfer put us at 86 (counting Ishaq) with the last spot coming down to Ishaq or Hounshell?

Is VanGorder on scholarship? I thought he was one of the "One year only" scholarships that BK mentioned in the Spring. He made a statement regarding walk-ons getting scholarships was a one year only thing and not necessarily renewable. Maybe I'm thinking of someone else.

he was on last year and did make that comment before but until BK states he isn't on scholly, i guess he remains on it for counting purposes

By my count, if you carry the nine divided by the gross national product averaged out over a fiscal year, we're at four

Unless we give a scholarship to another walk-on I'm betting that we'll be under 85 again this season even with Ishaaq. It seems inevitable

So we're at 83 fully healthy scholarship players. Some combination of Baratti, Hounshell, Ishaq, and VanGorder will make up the last two spots barring a transfer or unforseen medical hardship. Hoping we can be at a full 85 for once and not give scholarships to VanGorden and another walk-on.

Is Schmidt considered in the scholarship number?

Van Gorder will go off scholarship. He can go for free anyways if ND has the same policy as every school I've ever heard of.

Last year's scholarship had to have been simply ceremonial.

Is Baratti injured again? I thought reports out of Spring said he was doing well, I thought Kelly had some good words about him, and was expected to give us some depth at Safety. I keep seeing people ask if he'll take a medical.

I don't think he was cleared for full contact in the Spring, and he only made it 1 play in the Purdue game before re-injuring the shoulder. I'd be surprised if he's cleared personally. Once your shoulder pops out a couple times, it's just a matter of time before it happens again with contact.
