I officially have no idea what a recruiting violation is because that has to be close

I kind of wondered if this was going to happen now that the Pot of Gold thing has started. You have to figure that since Elam got that first big mail batch from KY and he enjoyed it so much, it was going to continue to get bigger. It's good I guess if the Pot of Gold helps generate interest with some kids, but I wonder if Elam is really that interested and if sending another is worth the effort.

Not sure how close he's getting to recruiting violations, but if everything he's done so far has been legal, the guy is killin' it

Is it a bad idea for our recruiting coordinator to have a twitter? Guy's killing it, but seems like him having a twitter is just asking for a recruiting violation

Having a Twitter is probably 25% of the job description...

He couldn't do his job without twitter. I'm sure his job was conditioned on his demonstrating his knowledge of the recruiting rules. I know for a fact compliance pays attention to him and would be all over it if he crossed the line. A violation or two each year isn't a very big deal at all.

If I'm reading this correctly, Elam is basically saying he wants another "POG" only bigger. If true, then I agree with whomever posted earlier (sorry too lazy to go back and read) that Elam likes the attention and may just be playing the system out until signing day even though he knows where he is going.

he will probably get a 2nd go on the merry-go-round when he ends up at JC and then is getting recruited again by Div1 schools..

Some more quotes from Elam in between cheeseburgers...

From Ky Sports Radio

All eyes are on Matt Elam…and the Kentucky confidence is growing

On a day when the overall news buzz was rather slow, Matt Elam’s name continued to pop up here and there throughout the day. Elam is just a few weeks away from his January 4th college announcement, and the confidence around Elam picking Kentucky seems to be growing each day. The rumblings appear to favor the Cats, though Elam is still trying to keep his hand close to his vest. Elam is enjoying the recruiting process and won’t quite give any sure-fire signs just yet.

The 5-star defensive tackle received the Paul Hornung Award earlier today. The award is given to the state’s top player. Elam was full of interesting quotes, many of which did nothing to cool the excitement and feeling that Kentucky is in good position with the young man. Elam admitted that he is “very high” on the Cats. Here are a few of the most interesting quotes that come from Vaught’s Views article on the event:

“I just feel real comfortable and could see myself fitting in there. All of the commits were there and I enjoyed hanging around them and the coaches. It was good.”

On talking with Za’Darius Smith and Bud Dupree, who let him know they planned on returning, “They talked about wanting to have a great year with me. You can’t judge a team because of a 2-10 record last year. They are going to get better under Coach Stoops. So what they did last year doesn’t bother me because they are all talking about how much better they will be and all the commits there last weekend are very talented guys.”

Elam also took part in a Q&A session with the Courier-Journal:

“I would feel like it’s still a close three-way tie between Notre Dame, Alabama and UK because the in-home visits opened up my eyes to a lot of them. My Mom got to meet their head coaches and their whole staffs.”

On his UK visit this weekend, “There were definitely a lot of times I was just contemplating on saying I could be a part of this, and I could get in there early. It would be fun to play as a true freshman, and I feel like I can help my program, my in-state program.”

My program? It’s hard not to want to read tea leaves on some of the wording.

I wonder if half of this site knows where he went to school? haha

Who the hell is Paul Hornung? He must be related to that QB, Berry Hanrather that you made a stink about?

I'm pretty sure it's only a violation if he said "Matt Elam is calling me out", I could be wrong though.

But I do think JR is living on the edge with this

I like the slogan under our name. Very appropriate.

The number given to the character "Jean Valjean" in the musical "Les Misérables". It has no meaning in the Novel written by Victor Hugo, but was a random number selected to rhyme with the rest of the musical. It is now a term to describe those who are punished extensively for a small crime and it is best used when randomly breaking out into song.

Even if it was a violation... then what?

We apologize to the ncaa for "minor infractions" and move on?

Seems low risk to me.

It seems like the NCAA is on the verge of not caring about mentioning recruits in tweets. There's too much to track, and it's impossible to enforce, and obviously the penalty is so small that no one really cares.

I look at it as a U-turn on an interstate. Yes, it's illegal, but the police don't really care if you have to use it. They make it illegal so that everyone's not using it, essentially creating a uncontrolled intersection that's perpendicular to speeding traffic.

Based on Elams latest comments after his official visit at UK, as well as after winning the Paul Horning award as the best player in Kentucky...this is how I feel his top 3 rank....

1. Kentucky
2. ND
3. Bama

Essentially, sounds like he's a Kentucky boy at heart. Says a lot of people want him to go to ND. IMHO, unless his parents or close confidants sway him to ND, he'll be getting unlucky in Kentucky.

Probably agree with you here. I am not on the Elam bandwagon. He could be a first round pick in four years or be bagging groceries at Krogers. Don't mash the bread there big fella.
