That would be ideal IMO.

I've seen him projected all over the place, from the late first to the third. Could be an interesting draft experience for him.

Anyone out there have more under-the-radar prospects (not necessarily ND guys) that they're hoping their NFL teams will draft? Guys who will be 3rd round or later?

For the Pats, I'd be pumped if any of these guys got taken:

QB: Aaron Murray (hoping he'll be there end of 3rd round) or David Fales
RB: Lache Seastrunk or Andre Williams
WR: Dri Archer, TJ Jones, Jared Abbrederis
TE: Niklas, Sefarin-Jenkins, CJ F____ from Iowa
OL: Watt, Tiny Richardson, Steen from Bama

IMO, this draft is pretty wild, in that its both deep and wide. After Clowney, you have a lot of overlap in quality between rounds. E.g., look at Nix, could go anywhere from top 10 to end of 2nd round. I think there are a lot of dudes that you could legitimately say that about, more than in a long time. And, its the same in every round, guys that could move up a round and no one would blink or could fall a round and a half and, likewise, no one would blink. Great, great draft to play with.

Hoping the Steelers trade their first round pick to the Niners and get the Niners' first and second round pick in return. I'd love Odell Beckham in the late first round but if Justin Gilbert is there at 15, they can't pass on him

I'm hoping Tajh Boyd or Aaron Murray are around after the third round for the Bengals to consider. I'd like to see them take a developmental QB that has the potential to light a fire under Andy Dalton's ass.

They need CB, DE and interior OL mainly, but also maybe an OLB. I would love to see Shembo late to add depth to the pass rush while also seeing if he can be a true OLB in a 4-3.

Agree with Lache being one of the best if not the best RB in the draft.

A reliable TJ Jones as the 3rd receiver behind Megatron and Golden Tate would be huge. As a Bears fan, I'd hate to see this.

As a Bears fan, I want them to stop it from happening by drafting TJ ourselves. He would be a nice fit between Marshall and Jeffery.

This is the first draft in while where I will be excited for the 4th and maybe even the 5th round. So deep.

Think of this.... Aaron Lynch is projected anywhere from mid 5th to undrafted. I think I could live with the Bears using their last pick on a "project" like Lynch. lol

i really think Mack is going to be a very good player in the league, but i would have a VERY hard time passing on Clowney if he were there for me to take.

Kiper Discusses Notre Dame's Draft-Bound Prospects

On Martin:

ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. listed Martin 10th in his most recent ‘Big Board’ rankings this week and praised the lineman on a conference call Wednesday.
“What helps Martin is the fact that he can play left tackle, right tackle or guard, the fact that he’s been out there for 50-plus games,” Kiper said. “He had a great Senior Bowl week, it didn’t matter who he was up against. The kid is a reliable, consistent player. He’ll come in right away and help. He’s a safe pick.
“He can really go anywhere, when you look at the first round, anywhere in the top 17 if someone needs an offensive lineman. That would obviously be Baltimore, who’s picking at 17, Dallas at 16, Pittsburgh at 15, St. Louis at 13. All those teams could pick an offensive lineman with the versatility that he can provide.”
The New York Giants have shown interest in Martin and have the No. 12 overall pick. A year ago, they selected former Syracuse offensive tackle Justin Pugh, but have maintained the priority of protecting quarterback Eli Manning.
“After [choosing Pugh] last year, do you come back and draft a guy like Martin? He’s a heck of a player, but do you do it for the second year in a row? Eli needs help on the line, he needs wide receivers, needs a tight end,” Kiper said. “[Former North Carolina tight end Eric] Ebron would make sense. To me, that’s where you have to look at that particular point: Whoever the best player is on your board. You’re picking at 12, you got to get … a guy in your top seven or eight. Whoever that is, whether it’s Zack Martin or Ebron, those will be the guys who would make the most sense.”

On Nix:

“[From] Nix I’d like to see more stamina, more endurance, he wore off in the second half in some games I watched. He is a 3-4 nose tackle and there aren’t a lot of those out there. Pittsburgh and San Diego could be teams interested in him. I think more of a second-round draft choice.”

On Tuitt:

With his size, there are a lot of things he can do on a football field. I can see him going in the middle-to-late first round very easily

On others:

• Kiper expects former Irish guard Chris Watt to fall victim to this Draft class’ depth at the guard position. The analyst projects Watt to be chosen early on the third day, which would be the fourth or fifth round.
• Kiper evaluated cornerback Bennett Jackson as a late-round selection and the same for running back George Atkinson III, who could also sign on as an undrafted free agent.
• Tight end Troy Niklas has consistently been projected in the second round of mock drafts. The second-to-third round range is where Kiper expects him to be chosen.

Pretty cool new technology the Falcons are using to project how a player's body will handle the NFL.

Falcons used “force plate” assessment on Clowney | ProFootballTalk

On Friday, the Falcons assessed South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney via a tool known as a “force plate.”

The plate, pictured with Clowney’s feet on it, makes various measurements based merely on a player jumping and moving on it. The test occurred in a weight room, not on a practice field. It doesn’t amount to a “drill” of any kind, but it provides important information about a player’s athletic abilities.

For draft purposes, the force plate assessment will help the Falcons identify players whose body composition and dynamics suggest that they will be able to play NFL football at a high level for an extended prior of time.

The results of Clowney’s force plate assessment aren’t known, and surely won’t be shared. But if the Falcons make a move to trade up for Clowney, it will be safe to assume they liked what they saw.

I just want to see what they would have to give up. Houston is lucky. They really aren't a bad team, just had some bad luck. Now they will get either a) Clowney or b) a ridiculous amount of picks.


If I were them, I would tell every team that if they want the pick, then 4 first rounders over the next 6 years is the starting point. Otherwise, we'll just draft Clowney.
