What did he say?

They were commenting on how good Zeke is and then Mayock went into how he was a 3rd round pick prior to the combine. Then after he ran slow, he dropped all the way here to the end of the 7th. Mayock was saying that Zeke is every bit as fast as Harrison and that Motta's shuttle and broken down quickness match to people that run a 4.6 40. Says that Zeke gets tense trying to run it too fast. Basically saying how dumb it is to put so much stock in the combine numbers.

Great to see Golic and Braxton getting the calls already. That was fast.

1- Tyler Eifert
2- Manti Te'o
6- Jamoris Sllaughter
6- Theo Riddick
6- Kapron Lewis-Moore
7- Zeke Motta

Not a bad draft for Notre Dame. Someone needs to pick Wood though.

Not a bad draft, but you have to wonder how Kelly got this team to the National Championship game. Pretty unreal.

Please don't interpret that as a slight. It's just incredible what this team and this coach have accomplished.

The difference between Motta and Harrison isn't so much speed as instincts and situational awareness. And Motta's superior ability to lay the boom will be less pronounced on Sundays.
For Zeke, the third round seems generous. But seventh seems low. Either way, Mayock's right (when isn't he?) the combine is over-rated.

No joke... he's probably my favorite analyst across all the networks. I'm so glad we have him on Saturdays. We shouldn't take him for granted.

Team= 11 guys on the field playing as a unit. Not one person is greater than the whole.

I understand that football is a team game. I'm not a moron.

But teams also have stars...and teams that play for a national title generally have guys who project to the next level.

Bama had 3 guys in the first 11 picks. Our third guy went in the 6th round. It's simply a tribute to the coaching and the cohesion of the team.

Yeah... to put it another way, if you fielded the best 22 from a pool of ND and Alabama players we had max 4 players that would start. 5 if you really want to stretch and say Zach Martin might've been able to play one of the interior OL spots not occupied by Warmack.

So Jayhawk expressing marvel at Kelly getting our team to 12-0 with such an obvious talent gap between us and some other teams is totally reasonable.

Alabama: 9 (1, 1, 1, 2, 4, 4, 5, 5, 7)
Notre Dame: 6 (1, 2, 6, 6, 6, 7)
Oklahoma: 6 (1, 4, 5, 6, 6, 7)
Southern Cal: 4 (2, 3, 4, 4)
Michigan State: 3 (2, 4, 4)
Stanford: 3 (2, 4, 5)
Michigan: 2 (5, 6)
Miami: 2 (5, 6)
BYU: 1 (1)
Purdue: 1 (2)
Wake Forest: 1 (7)
Boston College: 0
Navy: 0
Pittsburgh: 0

I think the world of Kelly (any sane fan would), and this doesn't really show you much because of the myriad missing variables, but it is interesting nonetheless.

Looking to 2014, how are we guessing it goes?

Shembo (2-4)
Jackson (2-4)
Spond (4-7)
Martin (3-6)
Watt (5-7)
Fox (6-7)
Jones (6-7)

Tuitt (1)

Watt (5-7)
Fox (6-7)
Jones (6-7)

FIFY - Until I hear him announce he's coming back for his senior year, I'm going to assume this mega talent is GONE.

To clarify a bit, by "other teams" I didn't mean "other teams on our schedule" I was more referring to the elites of NCAA football that picked up a loss or two during the season (i.e. FSU, LSU, Florida, Oregon, etc.). Compared to that echelon, we were still a noticeable notch below yet performed better than them against (in many cases) a harder schedule. Which is why Kelly deserves a lot of props/credit.

At one point during the draft someone said that UConn had more drafts than the B1G. Thats crazy.

Can't believe that Chase Thomas went undrafted. Lou at BGI pointed out that he had 50 TFL's and 27.5 sacks for one of the better defenses in the country the last few years. He ran a 4.91 which is surprisingly slow but he was a extremely productive player

Seriously. Thomas IMO is a poor man's Jarvis Jones, who BTW ran a a slower 40 than Thomas. Especially with the premium put on pass rushing OLBs. So pissed the Jets didn't take him.

Ray Graham of Pitt also signed with the Texans. A bit of competition for Wood. I really thought Graham was a solid player, I was surprised he didn't get draft. I know he has had injuries, but he is very talented. Did he hav an injury more recently? Not great news for Cierre, but there is definitely room for RB in the Texans organization (they did not draft one, and lost one to FA).

Nix (1) Agree
Shembo (2-4) Agree
Jackson (2-4) 4-6
Spond (4-7) Undrafted
Martin (3-6) 2-4
Watt (5-7) Undrafted
Fox (6-7) Undrafted
Jones (6-7) 4-6

The above assumes that they all play at or better this season as last.
