You make a good point but I have to wonder would GAIII have been able to get through that hole at the line of scrimmage? If I am thinking of the same play, it looked like he was stood up in his tracks and then next thing you know he was through and came darn close to taking it to the house. I think GAIII is great on the outside but running him up the middle never seems to work too well. If I had to choose between him or Cam to get 3-4 yards up the middle, I would go with Cam. He never stops moving his feet and always seems to get those extra tough yards. I hope GAIII has learned to get lower because if not, he won't be running between the tackles very successfully this year.

Well, we're going to find out. At 6'3" 220 GAIII has the size to run inside and the speed to take it to the house. It's a lot easier to teach lower pad level than to teach how to run a 10.36 100 meters and have the fastest 40 yard dash (4.43) on the team.

From post #235 by Whiskeyjack in the GA III Recruiting profile from Januart of '12:

As I have reminded everyone who references that type quote, BK actually said he didn't have the ball skills, not the hands. To me there is a difference there. It may be small, but it is different.

IMO, Tommy makes that throw. I'm much more concerned with the decision he'll make if the safety jumps the route.

Throw the swing pass to Amir. Get that lil cat the rock in space early and often. Coverage will soften and Rees will get open looks downfield.

Exactly. I read ball skills as getting in and out of breaks, high pointing it, things like that. Dude can definitely catch the ball.

We haven't put out a depth chart yet. Not sure when one will come out but BK said last week that they hadn't.

GAIII is 3 inches taller and 20 pounds heavier than Theo. He's a different back with different skills. Seems like lots of people in retrospect are looking at the positives of Theo and the negatives of GAIII. I'll give you an example: Against BYU, the same game that GAIII scored the winning TD on a horizontal play where he made a quick cut to get into the end zone, Theo ran through a wide open hole in the line of scrimmage, only to be run down by a defensive back 30 yards down field. GAII would have taken it to the house.

So they both have strengths, they're just different backs. George can do things Theo can't and Vice Versa.

Can't wait for the season to start so that all the speculation is put to rest.

It's not an issue of bashing on GAIII by pointing out his flaws while looking at Theo's positive traits. It's an issue of discussing the things GAIII needs to get better at if he's going to be the primary ball carrier for ND. And while he obviously has the gamebreaking speed that you mentioned, he won't last as the starting running back if he doesn't run with a lower pad level. All of that speed means nothing if he can't be a threat between the tackles. Defenses would begin to tee off on the pitches, sweeps and outside zone runs that would need to be called for GAIII to be effective.

However, I believe he will do just fine between the tackles, which I should have made more clear. I was simply mentioning that he still runs very high at certain times, but it is obvious from practice videos that he is improving throughout camp. I am just anxious to see his improvements in live game action, because as you say, this is all just speculation. Just don't want to see GAIII get wrecked by a LB because he was standing straight up trying to run through the middle.

Like when he met Calabrese on a run up the middle in a spring practice! Hopefully he learned his lesson lol

Haha Dshans you must be a professor. I was never good with grammar just the analysis part. Plus I am tired and am not thinking about grammar.

I am not now, nor have I ever been a professor. I am not a lawyer, certified grammarian (if there is such a thing), professional proofreader or copy editor. I'm just a grumpy old fart hippie who has been reading and writing for most of his 61 years.

I've also been a self taught smart *** for all of my 61 years. I did spend 25 years working with lawyers, though, and did gain an appreciation for precision in the use and interpretation of words in context as well as syntax and structure.

Best of luck to you.

Kelly says Mahone is out for Temple with a high ankle sprain. Those things never heal fast. I wonder how many games he'll actually miss. Anyone know what his playing time was forcasted to be?

I'm a little disappointed in Grace but totally pumped about Stanley at RT and Lombard at RG.

Also, Chris Brown as a starter is huge, IMO. For him to win that distinction really means he has rounded out his skillset to complement his speed. The WR corps looks great.

Kelly actually mentioned that Chris browns camp was "ok," and that he wanted more consistency from him. He still thinks he can be a great player.

With him as the starter it means that his physical gifts are just too impressive to keep off the field IMO

Chris Brown is going to be more complete. He will have a big year probably 500 yards or more.

Keep in mind that he won't be on the field every play. We'll have multiple back or multiple TE sets where he won't see the field. If you follow Bk's presser, he said that Brown is still having some consistency issues.
