Don't believe this has been posted yet, focuses more on the runningbacks. Even in the drills you can see how explosive Amir is. Folston looks to be the real deal also which helps to salve the loss of Hood.

When watching Folston run does anybody else see a little barry sanders? Solid frame, with big legs, and a low center of gravity which makes changing direction on a dime look easy. Obviously not at that level right now but I watched those clips and thats what came to mind. Maybe I just need football to start already, haha.

I really hope the coaches never run Tommy on an option play. The defense will just swarm to the RB, leaving Tommy open for a big hit and/or fumble. Any coach that's seem a game of tape from the past 3 years will know he's not going to hurt you if he keeps.

First clip out of the gate is a bad snap and Tommy slapping and kicking the ball before finally corralling it. Who's in charge of the video editing at Irish Illustrated.

he did alright on his designed QB run against Michigan last year.

I would probably lose my sh1t if Reesus ever trucks a DB on a running play though.

The BIG comment by Diaco was that Ishaq, unlike in the past, "has a 'ruggedness' about him this year".

THAT's what we needed to hear. Ishaq finally REALLY wants to get physical every play, and dominate an opponent when possible.

I've now [blessedly at last] changed my mind as to whether the big fellow is going to be of truly significant help this season. Now I'm looking forward to him being on the field.

Thank you, Ishaq, for getting your massive-motor going.

Man is that great news.

Ishaq this year might be the most important non-starting defensive player we've had in a long time. His versatility means he will get on the field in a lot of different situations. This is a guy who is going to be critical to our DE depth (with the Springmann loss) but who is also able to play a drop LB position on passing downs.

Going from that video I don't think he actually is thinking about keeping it. He runs it like it's just a slow, delayed toss-sweep. Which happens to be the one way you don't want to run it.

Jarron Jones needs to find that ruggedness now as well.

In regards to the whole option/ sweep thing in the video:

Apparently GAIII is he starting RB, and will get more carries than any other single player (but probably below 50% still IMO). I am a little surprised by this since he pad level has been a huge problem in the past, and his lateral agility hasn't been ideal either. Now pad level is fixable its more of a technique thing, so it is fixable (with coaching/ practice/ muscle memory). Lateral agility is more of a "physical limitation" you can work to improve it, but IMO it more of a natural ability thing. Now GAIII's straight line speed is awesome, but his lateral agility/ cutting ability isn't (still above average). I think what we are seeing are ways to get the ball outside to GAII to utilize his speed (see Miami last year) rather than sending him between the tackles every play (well, the majority of the plays). I also like how TJ Jones move to the slot could impact this. Jones is a plus blocker IMO, so he is definitely capable of setting a good edge and allowing GAIII to get outside. I think we see Tommy doing the pitch plays (something I have noticed alot in the videos- moreso than normal handoffs) to cater to GAIII's strengths (his straight line speed). Getting the ball outside quickly is key. I think that is why we are using the pitch more often (via the videos) rather than the handoff (of course it could just be those chose to show us that. I think we will see Bryant and Cam between the tackles and GAIII (and Amir) with the outside runs more often than not.

Summary: We are using the pitch and option plays to get the ball out wide cater to GAII's strength (straight line speed), not because Tommy can (or will) run.
Of course I am no expert, and this is purely conjecture (kind of like most of this thread), so take it for what it is worth, but those are my thoughts.

I somewhat agree, but we can still get GAIII outside quickly (and more securely) by putting him in motion and dropping him back in next to Tommy - pretty much what we saw with every RB in that video after the they ran the option.

I really like that play. It opens up the play action really well and is a safer way to get GAIII outside. I'm not a fan of running the option with Tommy, at least against teams with quicker DE's/LB's.

Yeah I remember that play. I also remember that it basically telegraphed what we were doing and the D's were ready for it after seeing it 1-2 times (and we didn't really try it much after the cat was out of the bag vs Bama or USC, if memory serve me correct), which is okay when you have Theo and Cierre, but not good at all when you are the top RB. I think they will continue to do that, but also mix it up more and try to get GAIII out wide with other methods, namely some type of "option" that were the second "option" kind of sucks, and the pitch.

I think a lot of people were surprised about GAIII, but a month ago I was saying he'd be the starter ;) Sometimes we get so excited about the new prospects that come in we forget that theres talent ahead of them with experience (Even if it's not a lot of game experience). I don't think GAIII's pad level will be an issue. Watching some of the videos from practice it looks like he's been working on it. He may still run high once the season starts, which could lead to injuries with the extra reps, but I expect him to churn out a lot of yards if he stays healthy. The same goes for Carlisle, he'll get a ton of good yards if he stays healty, and I expect maybe Bryant or one of the other youngsters to get reps in the 3rd spot like GAIII did last year.

To me it looks like GAIII runs through traffic very well on some reps, but some reps he seems to tighten up, slow down, and kind of tip-toes through with his shoulders up high. If he can't consistently keep those shoulders dropped low, he's going to get smacked quite a few times right under the chin.

I think he's going to get it done, but I still would like to see him get the body low and move through contact like Theo did. How spoiled we have been with running backs the last three seasons...
