I don't get Cierre's comment. He didn't get a fathead? He should definitely have gotten one; he's a senior this year. Is it that they didn't give him one because he has a 5th year available? But that is inconsistent with our policy of not awarding 5th years as a matter of course. I don't get it.

I very well could be wrong, but I think he's a Junior (RS) this year. Since we don't technically give out "REDSHIRT", and the fact that he didn't see the field his freshmen year, he's technically a JR(RS) right now, so he has another year of eligibility left, so in his eyes and the teams eyes he was RS his frosh and would technically only be considered as a JR in football playing terms, so next year if he came back, it would be his Senior year of eligibility.

Correct me if I'm wrong though.

The (RS) designation implies that a player has an extra year of eligibility beyond their academic class. Cierre is a Senior (RS), because this is his 4th year at ND; but since he sat his freshman year, he's eligible to return for a 5Y.

Edit: keelio's right. Cierre is a senior academically, but a Junior (RS) as far as athletic eligibility is concerned.

I actually think Keelio is right overall, but Emcee is also right in that it would be inconsistent with ND's stance on redshirting.

Semantics boys. He didn't get a Fathead because he will still have eligibility next year and he is mad because he doesn't plan on being here. That's it.

I think your dead on. If Braxton Cave gets one, Cierre would not. There is a difference. Looks like the players in their last year of eligibility got the Fatheads.

So from what I've read there seems to be an internet rumor that Golson is going to be named starter? Whether or not that is true, do you think BK will still divide the reps evenly (atleast between Hendrix and Golson) or give Golson the lions share?

Personally, I think coach should pick a starter and get him all the reps he can handle during fall camp. I'm not a fan of the open competition and even reps. But, what the hell do i know?

I dont see Kelly naming a starter so soon. Is the rumor is that he going to announce a starter this Friday?

Seniors with 5th year eligibility walked for senior day. Why not get a fat head?

What has the world come to??

I would be utterly shocked if Kelly announced a starter this Friday. My bet is that he announces two-three weeks before the Navy game. While the work both guys put in this summer will be part of the equation, it will have more to do with how they look with full pads on and the training wheels off.

II just released the schedule for fall camp. Press Conference will be this Friday, August 3rd, at Noon. There will be practice everyday after that except August 12,18, and 26 until they leave for Dublin at 6:45 August 30.

I'm kinda concerned about Jetlag considering the game is the very next day.

I'm sure the Navy schedule up to the game is a little rougher. Jet lag is no excuse, imo.

I'm kinda concerned about Jetlag considering the game is the very next day.

The team leaves for Dublin on the 29th, from what I saw. The team practices the 29th in the early morning (6:15 - 8:30), leaves for Dublin later that day, then practices in Dublin the 30th, where the media will be allowed to view their first 2 practices. Then they'll practice the 31st and play on the 1st.

I'm more worried about the Purdue game than the Navy game. They'll be amped to play in Dublin. But the week of the Navy game, they'll be having 6-ish a.m. practices to get used to playing at that time in Ireland. So they'll have a full week of getting up super early, and then the next week (following the euphoria of playing abroad) they'll have to get their bodies right for a rivalry game. While the opponent may not be too tough, the conditions sure will. THEN they go to MSU, where the real fun begins.

The schedule makers did us no favors this year. 2 soft games for once to start the year is nice, but the game in Europe with no week off afterwards could be very tough to deal with...

Wish this game could have been like the old "Kickoff Classic" days, and the game could take place on Saturday, August 25th instead of September 1st.

I think you guys are over thinking the jetlag issue. If there is an issure with it, Navy will have it too.

We won't have to "get up" for the Purdue game. It's a rivalry, our players know that.

Purdue doesn't have the jetlag issue, but ND does.

And spare me with ND not having to get up for Purdue b/c it's a rivalry game and they know that. Is there a bigger rival than USC? Well, the players came out as flat as pancakes for that game. How about the BC game? They are rivals, and we lost, what, 6 games in a row to them? And they SUCKED last year, and we still barely beat them. We didn't get up for them at all.

You're wearing your ND glasses thick if you don't think jetlag could be an issue, or if you don't think an ND team can come out flat for a rivalry game. That crap happens all the time with ND this past decade...

They will be in Dublin for only 2-3 days. There won't be much jetlag to recover from. I'm not saying it won't be an issue, I just don't think it will be

Navy won't have to deal with jetlag. They are sailing over.

We should have put a bye after the Ireland game. I can see how Purdue could be a problem, at least to start the game.

I would have wanted the bye between BYU and Oklahoma. Mitigates the 'overlooked, dangerous opponent' factor for the BYU game and allows us two weeks to prepare for Oklahoma.

I was joking lol, I have no idea what they are doing. Would be pretty cool if they did, but they will probably fly.

I just don't see jetlag being a problem for the Purdue game. We won't be in Ireland long enough for jetlag to really effect the team

You see the time difference (jetlag, if you will) play a big part in NFL games. West coast teams playing early games on the East coast rarely play well. Having that internal clock get all screwy is never a good thing.

(I know this is a Bleacher Report article so take it with a shovel of salt but it discusses the winning percentage of West going East)

I think folks are thinking WAY too hard about this jet lag...maybe setting up an excuse in case we blow one of these games? IDK

Honestly who has weirder sleeping schedules than college students? These guys are used to odd hours, little sleep, and exhaustion. Their entire schedule will not be flipped just because they are in Ireland for 2-3 days....I mean for some of these guys the 8-10 hour flight will be more sleep than they get on a normal weekday anyway!

Navy will have similar issues. If you don't think these guys can recover from jet lag in a week for the Purdue game, I think you're insane. One day of rest (max) and these kids will be ready to go.

Its only a 5 hour time difference and about a 7 hour flight. They'll be fine.
