Update with some quotes on ISD. I believe quites are shareable, so If someone wants to share them. To me it read like the signing of the Hawaiian Drop wasnt a good thing for us, and McGregor was skeptical of that.

The way I'm making it sound is worse than the overall article sounds, but this is the part that stood out to me. Someone feel free to share the link or quotes if you can.

I’d say that was a rather bizarre read, not sure how to take it. Some positives like when he talks about relationships with ND players. But the position convo seemed odd. Apparently, Elston told him they’re recruiting both players for Drop and he wants him to have that spot. Which McGregor seemed confused about.

FWIW, McGregor recently measured in at 6’5.5 248 lbs and he’s 17. For perspective, he’s already bigger than our starting Drop, lol. Not sure I get the strategy of recruiting both for the same spot when you could very easily tell McGregor he’s inline for 2 deep reps at SDE as a Freshman and a starting role as a Sophomore. He’ll be 260+ in no time.

I’d rather tell him that he’s the second SDE with Ehrensberger than the second Drop with Botelho cause if he cares about playing time at all (most HS seniors do) then he’ll probably not like having to beat out Botelho who’s an absolute stud. I can’t imagine McGregor ending up at anywhere other than a 6’5”-6’6” 270lb SDE. If he did have concerns about Mills at SDE then you could mention that Mills is probably moving inside. I’m with you LuckyLucci in that I don’t understand the position view that ND is selling him on. I hope they’re able to come out with a win however they sell him.

Yea I'm not one to question the coaching staff generally but it's a bit puzzling. And as much as I like having two pass rushing DE's (it's nice to have two+ starting quality ones) but having a jumbo DE is a nice asset as well. Can't think of one we've had since Rochelle.

I haven't ready anything outside of this board on the subject. However, it wouldn't surprise me if they were telling him it's going to be a wide open competition at drop in 2020 and he can get a shot at snaps there.

His long term future may not be at that position but it might still be his best chance to play as a frosh.

Not sure how you consider that a bizzare read. He spends considerable time, half of the article, talking about Jordan and the Drop position, and starts with 'skeeptical'. Clesrly he's thinking about it and what the commitment means for him.

“At first I was kind of skeptical of it because they were having a linebacker play a defensive end position,” recalled McGregor. “It might not be good for me. I’m a little bit bigger than him, but Coach Elston and Coach (Clark) Lea always tell me to better myself and stuff like that.

“Coach Elston said Jordan would be doing a little bit of Drop and a little bit of linebacker. He wants to see what he and I form into because how we grow will determine how the defensive line will be in a year.”

Me as Elston:

Braiden, you and Bryan Breese are the two best DE prospects in the 2020 class. Let's not get caught up with the SDE/Drop BS, just know that I expect you to start as a Soph and move around... Weakside, Strongside & rushing from DT. If you have any questions, go watch Dan Hampton & Howie Long's HOF highlight films with your Dad and I think you'll get the picture because that's your skill set.

BMac: Hey coach, we watched those films and I'd like to commit now.

Ultimately, none of this is really consequential. He's going to make a decision based on a multitude of factors. If he doesn't trust Elston/Lea, so be it. I'm very pleased with our current DL commits and I'd love to add Braiden but I can't waste too much time on a kid that likely wants to be a skunkbear.

Well the length that he talks about it has nothing to do with it being bizarre. It's bizarre in the sense that we are deep into recruiting this kid, just took a commitment from Botelho, and that didn't seem expected from Braiden or communicated very well. Arguably, the #1 defensive prospect seems unsure about the direction of recruiting. That seems bizarre to me.

This is what should have been said. All they need to say is that your gonna start on the line ASAP. Jordan may start with him, play behind him or play linebacker.

You have the entire part about Jordan above. I wouldn't call it half of the article.

Freeman is for sure the guy to follow on this recruitment but there is some growing confidence that ND might just get this done. Loy still feels ND leads as of today and Josh Helmodt the rivals Midwest guy also picked McGregor to end up at ND

And I think the Mills commitment tomorrow could help a lot. Seems like the growing relationship with McGregor and Mills could be huge. They talk daily these days.

Yeah this is why I asked if he had already visited the other day. ND beat guys are still quietly confident about him even after the Michigan visit. McGregor, Mills, and Botelho would be a party in the backfield.

FWIW, Matt Freeman was saying this earlier in the week.

I don’t have ISD so I wouldn’t know. I just know he’s the guy on this recruitment

I do have ISD and can confirm this. Freeman and Christian are on the ball on a good amount of recruits each year. Christian was all over the Nana recruitment last year. Those guys do good work.

Aren't the Michigan insiders saying they feel just as good though?

It also looks like it is split on both sites (Rivals/247). Holland and Driskell just dropped the futurecasts for ND. Futurecast, what a stupid name.
